  1. Do you just simply listen to the scanner and they have 46.50 for Yonkers Dispatch as one of their Scanned Channels broadcasted?
  2. Yes, the rig is only 4 years old, but it has 44, 000 Miles on it (remember it covers the entire city) and currently, YFD is using a Spare Ladder Truck as its Spare as the Old Spare R1 is not adequate enough anymore to hold everything that is needed on the rig. With the mileage and needed additional space, Yonkers is getting the funding to replace the current YFD Rescue 1 (ALF Eagle HD Rescue) with a new rig either late 2005 or early 2006
  3. As he works on YFD R1, he would be the best to know. I am not sure if ALF makes an efficient "Walk Through" that ALSO provides the compartment space that the members of YFD R1 require for all of the Equipment they carry on that rig. But a "Walk Through" similiar to that of what FDNY has might be the answer. (a compatable 2005 Rig to the Old YFD R1 Mack Box)??? E-One makes a nice one? Salisbury maybe? Any comment my good friend R1SmokeEater?
  4. I remember that event very well. It was a real burner !! That Fanny Farmer Store, the Jewelry Store and especially the Famous Bee Hive Restaurant, which was a main-stay in Mount Vernon for many many years, went down to the ground. Mount Vernon had almost 1/2 of Yonkers and 1/2 of New Rochelle helping out with that fire. I wonder if anyone has any PHOTOS or NEWS CLIPPINGS of that event that they can share with all of us?
  5. If anyone plans on doing this (or knows of someone who is planning on doinig this), please let EVERYONE on EMTBRAVO.COM know !!!!
  6. It is the BUSIEST F.D. Department in Westchester County, By Far. 60 Control and Yonkers should be the Top 2 Streamlined on the Internet !!!
  7. Having the Yonkers FD and Mount Vernon FD (Throw in White Plains FD as well) DISPATCH would be IDEAL AND TERRIFIC, in addition to 60 Control !! WHAT ARE THE POSSIBILITIES OF THIS BECOMING REALITY ?????????? ESPECIALLY YONKERS FIRE DEPARTMENT DISPATCH
  8. Very interesting to note that the Paint Job on the Brand New - New Rochelle Squad 22 ALF Eagle Rig, says "Engine 22" rather than "Squad 22" I certainly hope that Yonkers doesn't make the same mistake when it gets its new SQUAD RIG from ALF, for Squad 311.
  9. The Best (Current) = American LaFrance, E-One, Smeal, Seagrave, Pierce The Worst (Current) = Sutphen, Ferrara, KME The Best (Former) = Mack and Ward LaFrance The Worst (Former) = Continential/Compac (HORRIBLE !!!!)
  10. Great Job on Yonkers Rescue 1, but do you know what would be EVEN BETTER? A Code 3 Collectible of this Yonkers Rescue 1's "Father" The Famous Yonkers Rescue One Mack B Box Rescue Unit of 1958, that was in service in Yonkers, until 1976. See http://public.fotki.com/YonkersR3/yonkers_fd/ for all of the Photos of this Classic. Image having BOTH the New ALF Yonkers R1 and its father the '58 Mack B Box Yonkers R1 as a "SET" Any possibilities of adding the '58 along with the New Yonkers R1?
  11. Can anyone name all of the Active Foam Units within Westchester County (as well as those that were in place but are no longer in service, due to budget cuts)?
  12. Interesting to note that although this is the "New" New Rochelle Squad 22, the Painting on the rig reads "Engine 22" I hope that Yonkers doesn't make the same mistake. It should read "Squad 311"
  13. The Last Foam Unit Active In Mount Vernon was their Mack B Series converted pumper, see ( http://www.nycfire.net/messar/gallery/apparatus/foam) that was stationed at Station 2 (Fulton Avenue), as previous post mentioned, it IS needed down on the south side, with all of the Gasoline and Oil Tanks in the area. WHY Mount Vernon disbanded it is BEYONE BELIEF. What did Mount Vernon do with the Old 67 Mack B?
  14. What Ladder Company used the very last Tiller Rig in Yonkers? Name the Company Number and as a bonus, what was the last year it was in service?
  15. It was the Old Truck 2 (The Last Truck/Ladder Rig) to officially occupy the 2nd Bay at the Old Vineyard Ave Fire Station # 2, before it was closed. That Rig eventually went up to Station 9 and was made Truck 9. You know your YFD History very well
  16. Does anyone know what potential Code 3 Yonkers Fire Department Releases are planned for 2005? Would LOVE to see current Rescue 1 as well as the planned Squad 311 ! What about some "Classic" YFD Rigs, such as the '58 Mack B Rescue Truck, The Former TL 75 (Now TL 77), or the 67 Former Engine 4. What are everyone's thoughts on this?
  17. Correct. It was Ladder 70, which took the Old SuperTrain Ladder 73 (Repainted Red and White from Slime Green), before it was put out to pasture. Nice memory on the Old White Cab, Red Body ALF Straight Stick. It was originally Truck 1, Then Truck 4. The Front End of the Truck was in a "Fender Bender" crushing in the Front Piece. It became Ladder 76, before Ladder 76 was taken out of Service due to Budget Crisis. For those who remember back when, does anyone remember a "Similiar" ALF Straight Stick, to the White and Red Ladder, that was ALL RED!! WHAT TRUCK COMPANY (it was called Truck Companies back then) WAS IT ASSIGNED TO ????
  18. Agreed, that you need 6 Members to run the Squad. So hire on 2 Additional Men to Staff Squad 311. Have them all trainined on the Specialization that makes 311 a Squad. However, still have Engine 305 in Station 11. So for EMT Runs only, have Engine 305 run with only 2 of the 6 of the members, and if Squad 311 gets a run, have it manned with the remaining 4. When 305 goes 10-8, then they can join Squad 311 on their run. Only 2 additonal staff members is better than having to man an entire new company 4 new members.
  19. Wow, a lot of talk on the net about Squad 311. I kind of like the idea of mannng a small Engine Company (Engine 305) out of Station 11 (Parked in front of the Collaspe Unit in Bay 2). Station 11 could have a 5 Man Crew stationed there. 5 to run on all Squad 311 Calls, and in the case of Medical Calls in the 311 District, have a 2 man crew respond on Engine 305, leaving 3 men to man Squad 311. Once Engine 305 has 10-8, it could then also respond on the call with Squad 311. Just a thought. The cost would not be that high, given that E-311 was a Captain, Engineer + 2 Crew. So, have Statoin 11 have a Captain, Engineer, and 3 there at all times, and have it respond to Medical Calls with the 2 FF's on Engine 305 for Medical Calls ONLY! For Squad 311 Calls, with Engine 305 in quarters, have all 5 respond, leaving Engine 305 out of service. The cost would only be for 1 addtional FF on the payroll. You have the Rig (Engine 305). So it would allow for more flexibility on Squad 311. Your thoughts?
  20. Playland Fire, Rye, of the 1960's; St. Casmier's Church Fire (1960's Yonkers), Central Avenue Bowling Alley Fire (1960's Yonkers), 4th Street and First Avenue Fire (1970 Mount Vernon)
  21. Great job by a Great Bunch of Individuals
  22. As soon as anyone has any information pertaining to the acceptance of the Bid for the New Yonkers Fire Department's New Squad 311 Rig (YFD Engine 311 has now [effective Dec 1, 2004] will now become a Squad Unit). Anyone have any suggestion (realistic) on what brand of rig would be the best for this application? (Smeal, ALF, EONE, Salsibury, Seagrave, etc?)
  23. Is there any news pertaining to the Development of the New Yonkers FD Headquarters, given the plans to build the Baseball Park down at Chicken Island, that will take up the Current Old FD Hdqrs? Last I heard they were thinking about the Armory? Anybody have any updates?
  24. Good Morning SmokeaterR1. Terrific News coming out of YFD. It would make sense to have Squad 311 to respond for the East Side, in a similiar fashion as Rescue 1 does for the West Side. Should the incident require it, YFD could dispatch Rescue One to the East Side if their specialized equipment, not available on Squad 311, was needed. This way, both sides of the city are better covered. PLUS, it will certainly cut down on the extra mileage that Rescue One adds when they go on runs to the east side. A Few Questions for you SmokeaterR1, regarding this news. 1) Will the Collaspe Unit Rig (Currently housed at Station 11), continue to act in the same capacity when Squad 311 comes into play December 1st? 2) If not, what will they do with that Rig? 3) I would think that ALF would be the best company to supply this new style of RIG. Do you agree? 4) Is, what I mentioned above, as far as the plans for the New Squad 311 and its relationship to Rescue One, the way that YFD is going? 5) Will YFD be changing the Lettering on the existing 311 Mack Rig, to reflect "Squad 311" come December 1st? We all look forward to your answers - THANKS
