In regards to the Yonkers Waterway along the Hudson, both YPD and YFD have Marine Units that would be activated should an issue arise where someone or something happened along the Hudson within the boudries of Yonkers

Great Addition to the Mount Vernon FD Fleet. Given the amount the situation down in "Oil City" the reinstatement of MVFD Foam 1 is sorely needed (Can anyone remember the Old MVFD Foam Unit - 1967 MACK B? - http://nycfire.net/messar/gallery/apparatus/foam This new unit is a major upgrade, don't you think? ANY IDEAS WHERE MVFD will house this unit? (Down with Rescue 1, Ladder 3 and Engine 5 where the Original Foam Unit was housed or somewhere else??). AND are there plans by MVFD to repaint and letter this New MVFD Foam 1 Rig, the Traditional RED with White Lettering ??? Finally, what COUNTY Designation will this new rig be called ??? (I believe Yonkers has a Foam Unit located out at Station 13, but am not sure what they call that (County Designation?)
-
Again, does anyone have any photos of the New MVFD Foam Unit, with all of the MVFD Lettering Completed on the Rig to post here? Much thanks and appreciation in advance
-
Does anyone have any Photos of the New Mount Vernon FD Foam Truck (with MVFD Lettering on it) to share with us?
-
Did anyone from Westchester County get to attend the Fire Department Instructors Conference and Show in Indianapolis, Indiana these past 4 days?

I ask this question, not necessarily based upon History or Reputation, but in reality !!! Price Not Being An Issue, who makes the BEST SCBA's on the Market? Is it SCOTS, SURVIVAIR, or MSA ? (Again, don't let price or prior reputation get in the way, if your life was depenent on the unit functioning properly, how would you RANK these 3 manufacturers 1, 2 or 3 and WHY ?)

If I read the Ridge Hill Proposal Correctly, it appears as if the proposal is calling for the Construction of a New Station 10, which would be placed up at the New Ridge Hill Site. Again, if I am reading this correctly, it would house the Current Engine 310 as well as a New Ladder Company (? Ladder 76?) as a 2 rig station, covering not only the existing Station 10 Coverage Area but Ridge Hill as well. If anyone has any other information on this that they could share, it would be greatly appreciated.

Actually, this is the actual REFURBED 1971 ALF Old Engine 2 that Compac/Continential Refurbed for Yonkers back in the 1980's (What HUNKS OF JUNK these Rigs were) http://nycfire.net/messar/gallery/apparatus/nyks312 Take a look at this HOPELESS hunk of junk and wonder if it would hold up today !! (I think not) Thank goodness Commish Kiernan and Commish Fitzpatrick had/have the forthsight to see what the men who serve our city well need to have !!!
-
I believe back then, Engine 310, 313, 311, 312 and 314 all were running with those Continential Compac Rigs, with the West Side using mostly the Mack CF's. Of the 5 Compac Rigs, I was the Refurbed Engine 305 (Old ALF Engine 2). Eventually, I believe these Compac Rigs were replaced by those MackCF's that were replaced on the West Side and moved to the East Side. In addition, there was that Old Tiller that was refurbed into a Compac Tiller (Ladder 69), as well

Yes, I also believe that Westchester County is entirely SCOTS PAKS, with a smattering of MSA's up in the Northern Counties. I spoke with a Cheif out in New Jersey about the Survivair Sigma SCBA and he now swears by them. Said they are the Best Thing on the Market Today. He was quoted as saying it was the CADILLAC of SCBA's !!

Just read some information in the Journal News concerning a New Proposal for the Downtown Larkin Plaza area and the New Ballpark Proposal. Evidently, this new proposal will not affect Greens and other retail establishments, but will essentially shut off School Street, meaning that YFD Fire Headquarters will need to be rebuilt and placed somewhere else. Does anyone have any ideas where, within the Master Proposal, do they anticipate moving YFD HDQRS? (I had originally heard the Armory, but does anyone know any other potential sites???)

Some very good history! Here are a few additonal "Tid Bits" In the EARLY 1960's, Yonkers FD, was basically running with American LaFrance and Ward LaFrance Rigs (except for the FAMOUS Mack Box Rescue Truck [The Old Rescue 1]). It was not until the Mid 1970's when Mack CF's started and became a "Staple" in Yonkers! As meninedood in earlier posts, those ALF Mid Mount Ladders were at Statoin 5 (As Truck 5), Station 4 (As Truck 4), Station 2 (As Truck 2) at Station 11 (As Truck 3) and as a "Spare" located out of Station 13 (Truck 6). These Open Cab ALF Ladders were eventually Retrofitted with Hand Made Wooded Roofs. They were the Main Ladder/Truck Company in YFD until 1968, when YFD purchased the "RED" Ladder Truck. This was originally placed as TRUCK 1 (see the 75th Anniversary of the YFD for photos), until 1972, when "BIG RED" was moved to Station 2, to replace the Old ALF 1950's rig. At that time, YFD purchased the Now Famous ALF Mid Mount "White Cab". It was placed into servce as Truck 1 (It was embossed with Gold Leaf Lettering on the Rig, with a Big Number 1 on the nose). Some history on this unit. It was involved in a Slight "Fender Bender" slightly crushing the nose of the rig. This rig eventually was replaced in 1974 with YFD's First Tower Ladder (see below), thus the now the Famous White Cab was moved to Station 4 to take over as Truck 4. Eventually, once the ALF Tillers were purchased in the late 1970's, The White Cab, became Ladder 76 (When YFD went with the County Numbering System) and it had its place at Station 11, and then finally ended up as Ladder 70 at Station 14, before it was taken out of service. At the same time (1974), as mentioned, Yonkers purchased its very first Mack Baker Aerialscope Tower Ladder, put into service as "Tower Ladder 1" This rig had a interesting history as well. Originally set for service out of Station 1, it was found that the flooring at HDQS was not sufficient enough to hold up the huge amount of weight that this new RIG had. Thus, it was MOVED to Station 3 (The New Vark Street Station) HOWEVER, this very first Tower Ladder was OUT OF SERVICE for a VERY LONG TIME. Basically, it was a "LEMON" (No pun intended on the Lime Green). Truck 1 (then Ladder 71) had a few Tillers at HDQRs. The famous RETRO-FITTED Compac/Continential (JUNK) Ladder/Tiller was used as Ladder 71 for a brief time, until the New ALF Tillers arrived. (How many people remember when YFD made a HUGE mistake going with the Continential.Compac Rigs, that the OLD ALF Engine Company 2 (then Engine 305) was RETRO fitted as a Compac? (you could tell the difference by the Federal Q Siren on the Nose of the Rig, vs. the Other Compac's purchased that did not come equiped with a Federal Siren). Interesting to note, that Yonkers went away from American LaFrance Ladder Rigs after the purchase of the 3 Tillers, until recently with the 2 New Tower Ladders/Rescue/and Engine Companies. If anyone has any additional history that they would like to add, that would be terrific !!!

That's great news. Any update on when you might have your Web Site up and running to allow us to tap into the Yonkers FD Channels? If up, can you provide us with the URL for your Web Site?
-
With today's sunny and somewhat mild temps, any update on how your set up is going, so that everyone out here in EMTBravoland can get on the net and listen to the Yonkers FD Channels?
-
No Problem Scanner Nut - Again, your vallent efforts are greatly appreciated by all on EMTBravo. Can you give us all an update on how you are making out with your attempts to set up your On Line Scanner to pick up Yonkers FD?
-
Not me, this was a work associate of a good friend of mine. I don't live in Norwalk, CT, but thought that the information would be helpful to you. Let me know how you make out with this?

484.7125 - Yonkers Fire Department - Operations (PL 192.8) 453.6625 - Yonkers Fire Department 458.6625 - Yonkers Fire Department 465.550 - Yonkers Fire Department 465.600 - Yonkers Fire Department 46.50 - Yonkers Fire Department - Station-to-station (PL 141.3) Awhile ago, someone I heard about located in Norwalk, Connecticut, had recently purchased a Diamond Discone antenea with a 10ft. mast w/ tripod that he mounted on his roof. Prior to installing this new system, he could only sparatically get Yonkers FD opps. every now and then, BUT when he installed this new system, "The new Diamond Discone", Yonkers should was heard loud and clear from what I'm told...
-
I would attempt to pick these up as well. It can't hurt. With the system you are putting in, it should do well. keep us all posted with the eventual Web Site that we can go to to get on the YFD On Line Scanner.

Bid Announcement for the New Rescue Unit will be announced on February 2nd. Don't have any information on who won the bid on the New Squad 311. Both are scheduled for arrival in 2005

Keep us posted on how you make out next week. Yonkers FD Channels (either 46.50 or the Repeater Channe; OR Better yet BOTH) are much better (in my personal estimation) than the 60 Control Channel, although if there would be a way to have all 3 (as separate options and not scanned together) maybe that would appease everyone. But, Yonkers First in my Book. THANK YOU VERY MUCH SCANNER NUT
-
Absolutely! I am sure that this is "Exactly" why ScannerNut went out at got all of this new equipment. It would have been GREAT for "ALL" to be able to share the ability to listen over the net of all of the Dispatch Transmissions coming from the Cacase Dispatch Center to the Fire Scene over al Caryl Ave. But "Safety First" is the key on this as we all don't want ScannerNut to go up on his roof with all of the Snow to install the antenna. ? for ScannerNut, are you looking primary to have an "Exclusive" Channel for the Repeater/Dispatch or are you planning on adding a "Separate Channel" as well for "Ground to Ground" (provided you are able to pick it up?)
-
Although I speak for the masses on EMTBravo.com as we all await the Web Link to this Wonderful YFD On Line Web Repeater Site that you are graciously putting together, we certainly don't want you up on your roof, with all of the SNOW up there. Please wait a few days and let the Snow Melt away before venturing up on the rool. Keep us posted throughout the week - THANKS !!!
-
TERRIFIC NEWS FROM SCANNER NUT ! It looks like Scanner Nut may have a site up as early as sometime this week, to be able to monitor "On Line" the Yonkers FD Repeater Channel, exclusive from any other channels (Hopefully, similiar to what CTScan has set up on their Web Site) Speaking on behalf of everyone on EMTBravo, we cannot thank you enough Scanner Nut for everything you are doing !!!
