  1. Here is the Artist Rendering of the Proposed 6 Bay New YFD Headquarters to be built on the corner of New Main Street and Neprahan Avenue Page 45 of 79 will have the rendering - Exhibit 4f http://www.sfcyonkers.com/SFCYonkersApp2926DE.pdf
  2. It appears as if the New Yonkers Downtown Development Project is getting closer to reality. Many doubted that the Ridge Hill Project would ever get off the ground. Now, with the prospects of a New YFD Headquarters Building becoming more of a reality (read it was going to be a 6 Bay Fire Headquarters), now the someone will have to come up with the money to add the additional YFD Fire Companies that were outlined in the proposed Downtown Project Plan (ie: Engine 301, 302, and Ladder 77). I don't have a good feeling that these additional companies will be in place anytime soon. Remember, there was a "Planned" New Fire Station proposed for the Ridge Hill Site (New Station 10?), with a New Ladder Company (Ladder 76), recommened, but I haven't heard anything new on that either. Maybe it will happen. For all of this expansion in the city, I certainly hope that Mayor Ammicone and the City Council makes sure that it had proper fire protection to go along with it.
  3. What a wonderful and moving service held this morning in memory of YFD FF Patrick Joyce. Much thanks should go out to the thousands of firefighters who came from many miles away (other states as well) to attend. Also much thanks needs to go out to the members of the Neighboring Fire Departments who came down to cover the Fire Stations in the City of Yonkers, in order that all members of the YFD could attend the services. Finally, thanks needs to go out to the staff of both LoHud.com and News12 Westchester for their excellent and professional coverage of the procession and services inside the church. It was wonderful to see the precession led by Rescue 1, to which FF Joyce was a member of. Does anyone know what YFD Rig they used to carry FF Joyce's Coffin on that followed Rescue 1 during the precession?
  4. A special thanks needs to go out to the members of the Eastchester FD as well as the Village of Bronxville PD who are making the visitation to the wake at McGrath's as easy as possible. The Scout Field is probably the best area to park in order to easily walk to the McGrath Funeral Home. The Scout Field can accomodate many many cars and is easily accessible from the Bronx River, Sprain Brook and Cross County Parkways. Question, for the funeral services that are scheduled for Tuesday Morning, will all members of the YFD be able to attend the services, while Mutual Aid personnel from neighboring cities, towns and villages covering the City of Yonkers during the services on Tueday? Does anyone know? I think that every member of the YFD should be allowed to attend the services on Tuesday, along with as many available Paid and Volly Firefighters from as far as they are able to come, should and I suspect will attend the memorial services on Tuesday. God Bless FF Patrick Joyce, God Bless The Yonkers Fire Department, and God Bless the City of Yonkers.
  5. I agree. Kudos to Seth, Truck 4 and the others who monitor EMTBravo.net for the sensitivity to both the families and members of the Yonkers Fire Department. RIP FF Joyce. Also, great job by the YPD in their quick apprehention of this suspect. If they are holding him down at the Alexander Street City Jail, I would not want to be in his shoes at all. When it comes to this, Police, Fireman, Sanitation Workers will bond together like cement.
  6. Brother, when you weep for me, Remember that it was meant to be. Lay me down and when you leave, Remember I’ll be at your sleeve. In every dark and choking hall, I’ll be there as you slowly crawl. On every roof in driving snow, I’ll hold your coat, and you will know. The house from which I now respond, Is overstaffed with heroes gone. Men who answered one last bell, Did the job and did it well. As firefighters we understand, That death’s card dealt in our hand. A card we hope we never play, But one we hold there anyway. That card is something we ignore, As we crawl across a weakened floor. For we know that we’re the only prayer, For anyone that might be there. So remember as you wipe your tears, The joy I knew throughout the years. As I did the job I loved to do, I pray that thought will see you through.
  7. Here's a review by someone that I would think that everyone here on EMTBravo.net, would say "Says It All": Link to Full Editorial by A.J. Heightman COULD NOT HAVE SAID IT ANY BETTER - MAYBE THOSE PROGRAMMING NBC EXECUTIVES MIGHT WANT TO CONDUCT A COMPLETE HEART TRANSPLANT ON THIS SHOW AND PUT IN ITS PLACE A SHOW WHICH IS MORE REALISITIC TO WHAT HAPPENS OUT THERE IN REAL LIFE. LIKE MAYBE USING THAT RECENT INCIDENT OF THE WOMEN AND HER FAMILY DRIVING THE WRONG WAY ON THE TACONIC PARKWAY AND THE IMPACT THAT IT HAD ON HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS LIVES, AS WELL AS THOSE PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE DEALING WITH THE EMOTIONAL DISTRESS AFTER RESPONDING TO IT. 'OR' MAYBE SOMETHING IN LINE OF THE WAY TO FREQUENT AMOUNT OF INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE JUMPING OFF OF THE TZ BRIDGE DUE TO THE ECONOMY (SHOWING THE EFFECT THAT THIS RESCESSION IS HAVING ON THE LIVES OF INDIVIDUALS IN THIS COUNTRY) OR OTHER EMOTHIONAL ISSUES AND WHAT MEASURES THE PROFESSIONALS NEED TO TAKE (BOTH PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY) TO CONDUCT A SEARCH AND RESCUE. THIS IS TRUE, REAL LIFE SITUATIONS THAT PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY ARE DEALING WITH AND TO WHICH PEOPLE CAN RELATE TO. NOT NBC "FANTASYLAND" TO WHICH THIS RIDICULOUS SHOW APPARENTLY IS TRYING TO SHOVE DOWN OUR THROATS AS "ENTERTAINMENT"
  8. I wonder if the people over at Code 3 Collectibles would ever consider making a Die Cast replication of the restored Yonkers Fire Department "Truck 5" (Since Code 3 has done some Yonkers FD Die Cast Models of some of their more recent/modern rigs)?? (Would be a One of a Kind collectible). Does anyone have any thoughts?
  9. From what I have been told from Chief Fitzpatrick, Bat Chief Dunn, RedTruck75 and the staff over at YFD Station 12, the main restoration was done at Textron in the Bronx, with the additional lettering and labeling (Circle 5 to match that which was used back in the 1950's and 1960's on YFD Rigs). I have been told that this rig (which will be at the Yonkers Columbus Day Parade, for those who want to see it up close and personal) will be stored in the Basement Bay at Station # 8 (underneath the 2 upstairs bays at Station # 8). I am hoping that once the latest YFD Probie Class is over, that YFD takes the Old 1990 Mack CF Engine 306 (currently 298) and refurbs it back to its original condition, since it was the LAST MACK CF coming off the Mack Production Line, before Mack stopped making Fire Apparatus.
  10. Wow, how sad indeed. The Med-Helicopter service is used a great deal in that area, going between Horry County and Charletson, SC, where the nearest Level 1 Trama Center is located. Many retirees live in that area (in fact my Mom lives in Horry County, SC), and with the Myrtle Beach area growing so fast, as a recreational/vacation area, the Medivac/Helicopter Service is used a great deal. Let's keep our hearts and prayers out there for the victims and their families.
  11. Isn't Fireman Ed a real FDNY firefighter? So what if he is a loyal NY Jet Fan and has had season tickets to the Jets games for years? He is still a firefighter, isn't he? So why the jerk comments. I remember when I used to have NY Ranger Season Tickets when I lived in New York, up in the Old Blue Section, we had a few members of FDNY among us "Bluest" and we were all loud and sometimes rude towards the oppossing players (and fans) at MSG. Its wasn't anything different than what Fireman Ed is doing, other that he is now getting some "National Exposure" on TV and on the Internet. Jealosy maybe ???
  12. FDMV Rescue 1 (2006 E-One/Saulsbury) is a 24/7 manned rig within the Mount Vernon FD. It is manned with a 3 man crew. I am not sure what FDMV uses as a "Spare" when the Front Line Rig (Pictured Below) is out of service (Could be the Mack CF Spare Engine). Maybe someone within FDMV could answer the question regarding what they use when the Front Line Rig is OOS.
  13. Thanks Chief
  14. Can't seem to access the page from my facebook account. Can someone help me out on this? Thanks
  15. Thanks Chief Fitz. - That Tanker Unit is a great addition to the SOD fleet. Is it equiped to be connected directly to an Engine Companies suction system to draw water from? Also, I don't think a photo of the New YFD Foam Unit, housed at Station 13, has been seen yet. Does anyone have a photo of this piece of Apparatus? (Hope that YFD continued to use the "Foam Unit" insignia on this new rig (The Bulldog with Foam coming out of its mouth). That was one of the most creative logo's that YFD has ever come up with.
  16. Great Shots from the SOD Facilty on Nep. Ave. (Nice to see the Old ALF TL 80 [formally TL 75, I think YFD keeps the Old TL71 now spare TL81 down at Station 3 behind Batallion 1]--- Keep them coming. Love to see some more of the Old Refurb ALF Mid Mount as well as the Mack CF. Suprised that they keep these rigs outside. I would have figured that they would keep them inside the building and out from the Weather (Like they did when the YFD SOD was up at the Old Ridge Hill "Bunker" facility, before construction started up there and the YFD SOD moved down to the Nep Ave Facility. (Thought that YFD Fire Boat # 1 was kept inside Station 8 when not in the Water along the Hudson?)
  17. Correction made and noted - Thanks !! PS - Where did the 2nd Mack CF that was delivered go to (the 1st was originally 314 but quickly ended up at 306) ALSO - Maybe Chief Fitz or R1Smokeater may know. I had read that this rig (E298) along with Ladder 79 (the one that was in Mount Vernon on loan for awhile) will be used for the upcoming YFD Probie Class. Does Pelham Manor still have Tower Ladder 77 (the Old Mack Baker TL) that Yonkers loaned to them?
  18. Here is a photo of the Former Engine 306 Mack CF as a Code 3 Collectible)
  19. As mentioned earlier, it would be a great tribute to the late Chief Chris Kiernan, if this rig (E298, ex306) would be totally reconditioned, similiar in nature to what YFD did with that old ALF Mid Mount Aerial Ladder that they use for parades. It would be really sad if, after this Probie School, that YFD puts this rig out for auction. Again, maybe Chief Fitzpatrick can tell us what their plans are for this rig after the Probie School.
  20. Here is the same rig as it was originally assigned to Ladder 73 (SUPERTRAIN) before the white over red paintover and turned over to Ladder 70 (Photo Courtsey of Joe Pinto)
  21. Chief Fitz - What are the plans for the Mack CF (Engine 298) once the Probie Academy is completed? I had once heard that YFD was going to do a complete overhaul on that rig, since it was (as I had heard) the last Mack CF off of the assembly line. Also was going to dedicate it in memory of Chief Chris Kiernan and use it for parades (along with the 195x ALF Mid Mount that YFD reconditioned). Can you let us know Much thanks !!!
  22. Seth - According to the published bid award, the Awarded Bid for the New Ladder 72 (Tentatively due January 2010) was awarded to and will be a Rearmounted Smeal (Identical Ladder Spec's as the past Smeal Ladder Trucks) HOWEVER, on this Awarded Bid, it clearly indicated that the Chassis would be a SPARTAN chasis and not the HME chassis, as Yonkers has used in the past. It is also important to note that Yonkers also awarded Smeal the contract for the New Engine 309 and Engine 313, as well as the contract for the New Squad 11 (All 3 also tentatively due in January 2010). Each of these Smeal Rigs will ALSO be mounted on SPARTAN chasis (instead of the HME's that were used on the current Spare Rigs 300, 315, 316 and 317). I could only assume that YFD and Chief Fitz changed out the Chassis Spec's when Smeal was awarded the contracts for these new rigs (Maybe the Spartan Chassis holds up better than the HME's). Maybe Chief Fitzpatrick can let us know why YFD chose the Spartan Chassis over the HME Chassis on these new upcoming deliveries?
  23. How does the Insurance Company account for the Bear Towing Charge on the books when they file the claim? (Do they have a catagory called "Boo-Boo Towing Charges?" - LOL). Does Matt's Towing have a catagory called Bear Towing Charge? HOW IN THE WORLD DID THEY GET THAT BEAR ALL THE WAY UP ON THAT FLAT BED? On a sad and serious note, Bears running into roads are becoming more frequent as Deers coming onto roads. And Bears pack a much harder punch on cars than Deers do. Something is seriously wrong here.
  24. Photo taken just before the accident by a passerby. (Heard that Ranger Rick is really angry at Yogi and Boo Boo now !!!)
  25. I would like to see FDNY follow Yonkers FD and go with the Smeal/Spartain Rearmount Ladder Truck (Yonkers is apparantly switching Chassis' from HME to Spartan on the next arrivals of Smeal Rigs coming to the City of Yonkers Fire Department). Id bet that FDNY would love to have the Smeal/Spartain running on the front line. Much better rig that even the Seagraves (of course my opinion only)
