Primarily actors (or sometime off-duty personnel used as extras)

Wow - Although a dangerous situation, at least the members of Station 13 were able to react quickly and called in the right personnel to handle this. (Although the LoHud Article said that they moved Engine 313 and Ladder 73 out onto the street, I hope that they did not leave the 'poor Foam Unit' inside Station 13 - LOL

County Wide Fire/Rescue/EMS 'INCLUDING" all cities (Time for the Home Rule, Egos and Politics to end)

Like I have said in the past, that Old Mount Vernon FD Snorkel was a real workhorse piece of apparatus in its day. (Hard to drive around the narrow streets in Mount Vernon, but what a great unit to have during big fires. FDMV Snorkel 1 had seen allot of action during its lifetime in Mount Vernon I think it even was at the Historic Fanny Farmer Fire, but I can't be too sure)

Old YFD Engine 310? (Now Reserve Engine 315)

even with reflective stripes and chevrons, it still needs that final touch. How about 3 sets of Roto-Rays hung along the front bumper. Now that would really buff it out.

I was too young (about 4 or 5) when President Kennedy came through Yonkers on his campaign drive (I'd bet you would NEVER see open cars like that again). I do remember President Nixon traveling through Bronxville when he was campaigning for President in 1968.
-
Does anyone remember what Yonkers FD units responded to this incident? (314, 70 and B2?)
-
Totally agree. TOO MUCH POLITICS INVOLVED !! As long as those agencies who handle their own dispatching wanting to continue to hang on to their own operations, this will never happen in our lifetimes (similiar in nature to the consolidation of Emergency Service/Fire Service Operations thorughout Westchester CountyO

If I remember back then, the YPD cars were Blue and White. But how about some YPD cars from the 1960's when they were Orange and Blue?

I would be interested in reading some "serious" discussions on this forum, as it relates to tomorrow's (October 11th) County of Westchester - Shared Municipal Services Expo that will be held. Now I suspect (but may be wrong) that some Municipalites within the county (notably some of the larger cities, such as Yonkers, New Rochelle, and White Plains) will say that they strongly feel that they (their city) should keep and retain their existing municipal services, just the way it is, while some Cities, Towns and Villages will say that their municipalities would certainly benefit from sharing these services with others throughout the county. Then, as it relates to both EMS and Fire Protection, the question regarding Paid vs. Volunteer will come up, with the Unions strongly feeling that they need/should have a say into this as well. Personally, I am a strong proponent of taking the Police, Fire and EMS Operations throughout the entire county and having it run "ALL" under "ONE" governing body, utilizing all of the equipement, apparatus, and manpower that currently exists, and getting rid of any and all "boundries" that currently exits. This would save taxpayers money and would allow for a much better "unified" operation. I say get rid of the politics and egos and allow the county to move forward. Will it be easy? No! Will Rob Asterino push for this? Possibly? Now, how many Police Commissioners, Fire Commissioners, Fire Chiefs, Heads of EMS, etc, will be seen and be present at this expo? (From Major Cities within Westchester County right down to the Smallest Villages and Towns), remains a mystery. If you don't see one there, I suspect that there will be little to no interest from them or their municipality. Below is a link to the flyer that the county has sent out, regarding the expo. http://www3.westchestergov.com/images/stories/pdfs/sharedServices2011.pdf

Just the concept of having these communities "sharing" resources and agreeing to respond "together" (when needed) to alarms, is a HUGE STEP FORWARD. Maybe streaching it a bit, but why not have the same thing in the southern end of the county, where Yonkers would respond along with unit(s) within the Eastchetser FD for fire alarms, say coming in from a close to the boarder location in Bronxville, rather than having to have an Engine Company dispatched from, say Station 1 in Eastcheter (Engine 27). If you had, say Engine 29 from Bronxville, along with Ladder Truck from Tuckahoe (19) along with Squad 11 from Yonkers responding, (with 2102 as the Commander) say to an alarm at the River House Apartments on Pondfield Road West, you would save on response time and resources. Just a thought!

Chief - As long as Politics and Egos stand in the way, and there is pressure from the unions, the concept of Consolidation of Services will never see the light of day in our lifetime. I started a new thread as it relates to the County's effort to explore the concept of shared services (Shared Municipal Services Expo) that the county is sponsoring tomorrow. Whether or not all of the Mayors, Town and Village Administrators, Police Commissioners, Fire Commissioners and Chiefs, and EMS Leaders attend is open for debate and discussion, but I totally agree with you, when you say that the couny needs to PUSH and PRESS this concept and make it a reality. No Exceptions. (this way, no one would have to choose what Fire Department in the County provides them with the best opportunity to make a difference (personally and professionally). ONE DEPARTMENT (Police, Fire and EMS), no exceptions.

Chief Fitz - Its today on "Columbus Day", here in Providence, Rhode Island - LOL : ) PS - Did you guys break out the old restored ALF Midmount (aka: "Truck 5") for the parade in Yonkers?
-
Not sure if Yonkers is having their annual Columbus Day Parade or not?
-
Does anyone have a breakdown on the responding units to this scene from Pelham Manor as well as the Mutual Aid Units requested initial by the PMFD Chief from both the Yonkers Fire Department and the White Plains Fire Department, and then from other neighboring fire departments (Mount Vernon, Eastchester, etc)?
-
There are many special operations resources, equipment and apparatus throughout the county, to which the County DES should publish, make available, provide training, and make available to all departments (regardless of Paid or Volly) if needed (No matter if the Equipment is up at the Valhalla Facility or spread out throughout the county). Shared Resources SAVE MONEY, TAXES and potentially PROPERTY AND LIVES !!!

Surprised it wasn't put in the FDMV Station 2 Graveyard. But, I guess that the Station 2 Graveyard is full with the Old MackCF Engine 1 along with the Foam Unit that was never put into use are "Resting In Peace" (Surprised that Yonkers FD did not pick up that Old Aiport Unit (aka FDMV Foam Unit) and looked to refurb it and place it down at their Special Operations Garage?)
-
Does anyone know where the current Engine 3 (Ferrera) is being reassigned to? (Engine 2 or Engine 6?) and I would suspect that maybe the one that gets the current Engine 3, goes into the Spare Pool as the Spare Engine (Not sure if they currently have a Spare Engine, since the Old Mack CF was put out to pasture (or rather behind Station 2, next to the Foam Rig that NEVER made it into service)

I certainly hope that "Who Is Going To Cover The Cost", "Paid vs. Volunterr Conflicts", and "Who Is In Charge" (Checking Egos In At The Door) DOES NOT play into any department within Westchester County going up there to assist up there. Its about providing "AID" that has been requested. Cities/Towns/Villages who are part of the Westchester County Mutual Aid Program should be available and immediately made ready to assist, in case of Disaster Support, if the "COUNTY" offers assistance to other COUNTIES within the State. Or am I incorrect in these assumptions?

Is anyone from the Westchester County DES going up? How about any Special Ops Departments from say Yonkers, New Rochelle and/or White Plains going up?

The bottom line is that Park Officials DID properly communicate all of the Park Rules and Requirements well ahead of this outing to the Event Organizer. It was clearly their (The Event Organizers) responsibility to properly communicate these park rules and regulations to ALL of the (reported 3000) attendees of this event. If the participants of this event, who "alledgely claim" they were not informed of these rules ahead of time, have a beef with anyone, it is with the Event Organizer/Promoter. This individual FAILED to to their job (Maybe because if he clearly dicatated all of the Park Rules and Requirements to those who were interested in going, ahead of time, they (The Event Organizers) "MIGHT" not have gotten the response/committment of invitees to this event, as they did (Possibly some would have backed out). Wonder if the "Event Organizer(s) profited by this event (Event Fee vs. Park Entrance Fee)?? Hmmm? (Thus the possible reason for the so called "Communication Breakdown" (as Robert Plant once said "Communication Breakdown, Its Driving Me Insane") It should ALWAYS be SAFETY FIRST (no matter who, what, where or why) in order to protect EVERYONE (Regardless of Age, Race, Color or Creed) Just my 3 cents

Question for Captain Bnechis (New Rochelle), Chief Fitzpatrick (Yonkers) and Captain Dempsey (Eastchester): Are there plans to activate any additional reserve fire companies, manned by off duty personnel, throughout New Rochelle and Yonkers (ie: YFD Engine 317, Ladder 78 and Squad 21 + New Rochelle Engine 19 and Ladder 14 + Eastchester Engine 28 and Ladder 15) to help with Flooding Emergencies?
-
What are some of the Westchester County Fire Departments and Districts planning as it relates to preparing for this storm (Extra Crew, Extra Rigs, etc). Would be interested in hearing about such departments as Yonkers, New Rochelle, White Plains, Eastchester as well as the County Department of Emergency Services. With extreme flooding and wind damaged anticipated, it would be interesting to see what contingencies each department is planning on putting in place
