we aim to station four if not 5 pieces of equiptment in the new house. The location will be the same as the current mamaro firehouse, station 1, and will house engines 40 and 39, trucks 20, 21, and possibly utility 9. The plans are to double the building size and make it 4 bays. The village doesnt think we need a building that big, so we are at a standstill for a few weeks.

that fire in mamaroneck was in 1984-85, was the Townhouse bar/lounge fire. Thing burned for about 12 hrs straight. Started in the basement area which was the Townhouse, then went straight up through the walls. Sad part was that there were only two exits, fortunately I dont believe anyone died in the scene that I would imagine looked similar to the Rhode Island night club fire

Car 2241 is 90% Complete, should be done by the end of the month, looks great.

third watch was primarily fire related when it first came on and was that way, i hate to say it, until 9/11. Once they took that break from the show for like 3 months, they came back and it was all police/ems. They used to burn stuff every episode. Now your lucky if they show a rig driving by.

we go all out on our engines, but not as in depth with the building itself, and as for jingle bells and holiday music, isnt that what we have private firegrounds for?

Due to New York's switch to the FireFighter I program, there is a serious lack of training being offered. The switch took place with no available instructors certified to teach the class in West. county. How do people feel about not being able to take their training, as new firefighters or as old looking to refresh. Also, does anyone know where there are other FFI classes being offered in or around WEST..

Thank you to all Veterans, if there are any involved with EMTBravo.

The Former Engine 40 has actually been released from NH. About a month ago someone from down south put in a call to us at Mamaro and requested the original paint chip. I beieve a department in florida actually has purchased the Oren and wishes to restore it to brand new conditions the way we received it in the 70's.

after stretching an initial handline and knocking down what appeared to be the seat of the fire, it was determined that the fire was being fed by an old style propane bar b que tank. THe tank was outlawed a year ago because it had a purge valve on it that allowed the tank to release pressurized propane when the tank was heated, to prevent an explosion. The fire, prior to our arrival had burnt through the first floor ceiling and spread throughout the second floor ceiling. CO later determined that other small fires were set upstairs as well.

another remedy, sounds gross. If you have your own mask, that only you use, spit in the plexi part and wipe it in there and then just dap it out with a paper towel. Thats an old scuba trick. You dont need to spend 20 dollars on anti-fog liquids.

My Name is James and I'm from the Village of Mamaroneck. Just Joined EMTBravo a few months ago. I enjoy reading what everyone has to say even when I dont agree with it. I am currently commuting to college in Norwalk. I am employed by Brewer Hardware in the Village. My father is involved with the FD for 40 years next year. He always yold me that I would get most of my training on mutual aid to other depts. I have learned a lot from everyone on this site as well.

Hoping this wasnt directed just at me, my earlier statement was based on the old law, which did have limits on number, wattage, and type of light. Sorry for the confusion.
-
I think there is a law prohibiting a firehouse from having an operational fire pole while alcohol can be obtained in the same house. Does anyone know the facts on that?
-
just to point out as some one said earlier, the people complaining are the ones with too many lights anyway. The law states you should have one flashing (non-strobing) blue light facing foward, not to exceed x amount of wattage. if you break the cops balls about their blue lights, everyone that owns a strobe light such as a dashmaster/miser or any new led light that is led stage 2 or more, or any type of strobe pack has an illegal light and is also breaking the law. Does anyone realize what kind of a war taking blue lights off of police cars would start?

In mamaroneck village we have an engine and a ladder go to each of the nursery and elementary schools. We open all the cabinets, and climb the ladder for the kids. Then we do a powerpoint about all the stuff they saw in the engine and the ladder. Then we teach the young ones stop drop and roll. We also have two firefighters dress up in full gear w/SCBA and crawl around the floor to get the kids familiar with what a FF looks like so they arent scared. We teach them to grab on to the FF and pull really hard. When a child does this at the demo, the FF picks them up and brings them to the front of the class. We tell them that they have been rescued, and the other kids know that all they have to do is tug as hard as they can to be saved.

I dont disagree with you Joey, but I would like to make one point. New York needs to step up there training, but they need to have everything in place before they switch over. You cannot make this jump without certified instructors to tache it. Right now, there are over 325 firefighters waiting to take FFI. Every month you can add 10 to that number. At that rate these numbers wont diminish until probably 2006. That means that there is a chance that people that joined in May of 2004, like my nephew, will probably wait at least a year to even get into a class. Thats a long time to tell a volunteer he cannot enter a building. Yes or no, tell me what you think. I want to know if im being one sided.

it was a spotty fire, different areas were involved. Upon arrival a small fire in the rear exterior of the building could be seen from the front, initiating a "through the roof" by PD. L21 sent to rear of building. E38 hit hydrant at harrison ave and E. Post Rd. E38 in operation with two handlines one to front of building one to rear. Fire was knocked down immediately. Search attempts were conducted despite large gaps in the abandoned buildings floor. A good stop by VMFD despite the hindrances left the last time this building burned. Job well done guys.
