  3. 1/23/05: Black Sunday Fires - Six FDNY firefighters are forced to jump 50 feet from the windows of an illegally partitioned Bronx tenement after being trapped by fire and without working hand lines. Two firefighters succumb to their injuries from the fall and the others suffer career-ending injures. Later the same day, a firefighter becomes trapped on a staircase during search operations in the basement of a Brooklyn private dwelling and dies of smoke inhalation and third-degree burns. This tragic day is remembered as "Black Sunday." Stay Safe

  11. The event will take place On Sunday September 16th at Valhalla Fire Company #1, located on the corner of Legion Drive and Entrance Way from 11-3 pm. For those of you that will be joining us for the first time, or returning from our past events we welcome you and cannot wait for you to experience this wonderful day with us! In the past two years, thanks to the support of the Valhalla Fire Department we were able to raise over $42,000 combined. This year, joining us will be the North White Plains Fire Department as we hope to go above and beyond to exceed our expectations of incoming donations. All proceeds go directly to the St. Baldrick’s Fundraiser, which raises money for children with cancer. We thank all of you that have joined us in the past, as our events would not have been possible without you; however, we encourage you to continue the tradition and join us this year for a great day filled with fun and high spirits. This year we are lucky enough to have Herb Williams from the New York Knicks joining us to help the cause. Merchandise will not be provided, so please bring your favorite ball, shirt, or trading card to get autographed. He will be coming in the beginning of the event so get there early to be sure you won’t miss him! We will also be having a dunk tank again where you can dunk your friends, favorite teachers, and even your coaches! For those of you who are returning we encourage you to get registered and start getting sponsored. For those of you that are not familiar with this organization, going to the website below gives you information about where the money goes and how you can make a difference. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO SHAVE YOUR HEAD TO MAKE A DONATION! http://www.stbaldricks.org/ Get your fire house team together and come get shaved for a great cause!!! Thanks in advance!!!! and Stay Safe! 12. Here is the page from the Scott Manual; these warnings have been around for a long time in regards to the integrated PASS device. The Pak Tracker is incorporated in the main console of the PASS device so obviously the same warnings hold true. The recommended minimum distance is 6 inches from the main PASS console. I have not heard of any complaints in regards to PT malfunctions due to RFI but does not mean it cant happen. My suggestion is to trying training with the radio and see if you have any problems or interference. The Pak Tracker is a great tool that does not add any additional weight the SCBA but requires a good deal of familiarization and training on the Hand Held Reciever. 17. This might help explain the cost. FDNY Bravest Safe Boat Story Stay Safe
  18. Actually, Marine 6 "Bravest" is the largest SAFE boat built at 64' and cost 2.4 Million Dollars. I was on it yesterday and it is worth every penny. It will go into service on Friday officially. It is an awesome addition to the fleet. There are at least 4 more 33' Safe Boats coming to replace the well aged 27' Boston Whalers used for the Summer Season. This photo was taken as we boarded the 343 for the afternoon session. Stay Safe.
  19. They commonly referred to as CCBA (Closed Cirecut Breathing Apparatus) or re-breathers and FDNY uses Draeger BG-4's that can last up to 4 Hours. Can be used for Haz-Mat, Tunnels, Hi-Rises and incidents that do not involve fire. Stay Safe.

  23. Many Years????? Are we talking about the old TL 9 from West Harrison? It should not be sold, It should be refurbished like Pelham Manor or Darien,Ct and serve many more years in Mt.Vernon. Ask some of the guys in West Harrison and they wish thay had that truck back! Stay Safe.
  24. Looks kinda cheap compared to LENCO Vehicles. These guys have been building the best amored vehicles for some time. The choice of SWAT teams across the US. http://www.swattrucks.com/ I have been to the factory and it is quite impressive. Stay Safe
  25. Chief, The point I was trying to make was not clear, the politicians and city councils have tough decisions to make, some for the wrong reasons, some for the right reasons. These decisions have serious consequences to everyone. Taxpayers and employees alike. I believe it is a two way street and everything can be negotiated. Could the Vallejo council, employees (unions) and taxpayers figured out something to stay off the bankruptcy? I believe that there are some smart people out there that could figured something other then what really happened. The whole thing sucks!!! It's pretty clear, the taxpayers are not getting any services, the city is in shambles, the employees who are left have had their pay and benefits cut or frozen and the whole thing is tied up in courts and maybe for years. The city may never recover. You know who wins! The lawyers!! Meanwhile, back in NY, 21 cops and firefighters are still out of work in White Plains. I believe this is just the tip of the iceberg for what is coming to a lot of towns, villages and cities in the area. And YES, Chris 192, I do think all of those sweet heart real estate deals cut in White Plains over the last 10 years should be re-negotiated! What good for the goose, should also go for the gander..... Stay safe.
