To: Anyone familiar with setting up the WC Trunked System I'm having a rough time setting up the trunked system on this RadioShack PRO95 scanner. Frequencies: North Zone: 470.57500 (Control Freq) South Zone: 476.23750 (Control Freq) The info I got from RadioReference: So I gave it a shot in programming it in, and here's what I get: I'm not really sure what I'm doing LOL - So if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it. I read over the info on RadioReference about the Trunked Systems, and how it works and whatnot but apparently I don't understand it enough to program it in.

Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Ok - Here's what I did North: Frequencies: 470.3250, 470.3500, 470.3750, 470.5250, 470.5750 Base - 470.0 Spacing - 12.5 Offset - 380 South: Frequencies: 470.0750, 470.1000, 476.0750, 476.1125, 476.2125, 476.2375 Base - 469.525 Spacing - 12.5 Offset - 380 South Frequencies: 470.0750, 470.1000, 476.0750, 476.1125, 476.2125, 476.2375 Base - 475.750 Spacing - 12.5 Offset - 500 There is only one entry for Base / Offset per bank, (which is annoying with this scanner) So I had to have two separate banks for both South Zones because of the two different base frequencies and offset. Then I added the TalkGroups for Fire in each of the banks (North, South1, South2). Was that the right way to do it? I've heard transmissions over Fire11, and a quick blip on Fire14 so far, nothing else.
-
Ok - I think that fixed it. I don't hear the static when I'm scanning, only when I stop on that frequency in the bank. Here's what I did: Bank: North Bank: South Bank: South With all the information you gave me, then I added the set of talkgroups to each bank. I hope that's right. I don't hear any transmissions, but I don't hear the static either - that's a plus right? LOL [edit] Just heard a transmission from Pleasantville on Fire11 so I guess I did it right. Thanks again.

Thank You I'll try that right now and post back and see if I can get it working without being a pain and posting every time I have an issue. Thanks Again

Yeah, I changed that right after I posted this thread. That was a mistake - it's set to MOT now. Here's what I have now: I'm getting nothing but static from the North Zone's control frequency. I'm not sure exactly what I'm doing wrong since I've never really messed around with any radioshack products, and quite frankly the software for programming it is confusing.

Thanks Jack, I'm pretty familiar with this scanner, but that manual does make it a lot easier to understand.

According to RadioReference.com - that frequency is used by the City of Rye FD. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=1884 I also quickly looked through, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, and Rockland Counties with no luck.

If the insurance and liability issues could be sorted out - I think it is a pretty good idea. I'm not in favor of loaning it to other departments, but as a Muster Truck it would be perfect. That Mack/Baker would be GREAT! Always loved the look of those. Question: If the truck was purchased outright (paid in full) - it would only need liability insurance, and not collision correct? [edit] Also, would it have to be registered with DES as a tower-ladder / ladder / spare?

I figure I should add my $0.02 in here: I have to agree with Raz - if you're a captain - you're just that a captain - not a shift supervisor or whatever other term they (the city, dept., etc) choose to use. It saddens me that volunteers and career guys don't get along which is why I support both sides and wouldn't EVER say/do something without looking at both sides. It drives me absolutely insane when I see/hear about the politics involved in giving guys what they deserve. WE ALL HAVE TO GROW UP, and stop thinking we're better than one another - do career guys have more training for the most part? YES. Do volunteers have more time (usually) to make calls YES. There's pros and cons to both sides, so why not bank on that and make the best damn fire department possible? I'm not one of those volunteers who could care-less about the career guys, on the contrary I want them to be happy otherwise whats the use of working? I've yet to meet a career firefighter who hasn't taken me under his wing, showed me the ropes etc, and I appreciate that and I'm all for doing whatever I can to make sure everyone is satisfied. If it was my decision, there would be Career Officers, and Volunteer Officers - that way everyone is happy and there is no more of this nonsense and animosity. IMO Adding career officers would benefit EVERYONE. We have to look out for each other regardless, so lets do it in a way that everyone is happy and benefits. /rant

Depending on the design and final price, I might be interested a few (3-4 maybe).

Merry Christmas to all!

Playing devil's advocate for a second: laws are laws - V&T states blue to the rear only on police vehicles here in NY. Personal opinion: There should be a standard for all emergency vehicles, if it's proven to be a safety measure why allow just PDs to do it? Back on topic though since this shouldn't be turned into another blue light thread. Anyone have an answer to my previous post?

Looks great, always a fan of white and gold-leaf together. Good luck with it. Question: Full size lightbar + interior lightbar? Is it really more effective? From what I've seen with other similarly equipped vehicles, it's been overly bright to the point of blinding other drivers. IMO brighter isn't always better. (Not criticizing either, just wondering if it's proved to be more effective with you guys.)
-
I agree with you 100% - It's not allowed by uniform code, get rid of it. Rules are rules.
-
Not anymore. The department was restructured and now has two captains, and three first lieutenants all of which are elected by the department's active members. However, each company will elect it's own second lieutenant.

http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?72466 Also, there's a PPT presentation here with some better pictures of the device. http://firefighterclosecalls.com/fullstory.php?71941 Has anyone seen these before? I'm not sure how much hydrogen gas these things could produce, but being that hydrogen gas is flammable, should we be concerned with the gas accumulating and finding an ignition source (more than 4% accumulation according to the research I just did) Any special precautions that should be taken when dealing with this kind of thing?

Thank you. There is some additional information (precautions actually) in that power point that I found useful.

Thanks - much appreciated.

Not that the job can't be done to the fullest, just the thought that you can be accused of wrong doing when in fact you're just doing your job. that the world we live in. I'm a relatively new EMT, and that thought is always running through my mind. I've been able to keep that under control for the most part and get done what needs to be done, but for some people it could lead them to make mistakes just because they're nervous/uncomfortable. Agreed 100%

Aside from those sickos, everybody's looking to sue someone. EMTs/Paramedics can't even do their jobs to the fullest because of nonsense like this. Off-duty is another story.

Rest in Peace.
