  1. They say that it was so they could consolidate the old R4 (which was 1/4th the KME's size), Sq 4 and the Collapse trailer. None of this has been done yet, and many think it won't. Usually the manpower is not around to staff the rig and they only roll with 2 or 3 firefighters. Also, R4 is 1st due to auto extrication's, and 4th due to all structure fires. The only time the rescue is REALLY used, is when they go mutual aid for a collapse or similar incident. They usually get called out of the town, mostly because all but 2 of the 12 departments in the town, have a rescue. To be completely and totally honest, some believe that it was so they could have the biggest rescue in town. As soon as it was delivered, our department began making plans for a new Pierce rescue. One bigger than R4.
  2. I stand very corrected, I don't know what I was thinking when I said HM1 was nearing 10 years old.
  3. What do you want to know? They are a 'sister' department of ours. I am a Shaker Road-Loudonville fire department Explorer. Both dept's are part of the Town of Colonie, NY. Latham just bought a BEAST of a KME rescue. It has a crane, zodiac boat, 3 light towers, 4 on board generators, winches, a compliment of Holmarto tools, a compliment of Vetter bags, and a ton of other stuff. Latham also has a collapse trailer and 2 pick-ups. A 100' Midmount KME tower ladder, and 3 engines. They also have an EMS Ford Expedition and a smaller squad type rig. I can get you some pics of their rigs if you would like. Let me know.
  4. That rig is going to replace the current Hazmat 1 as per a guy who does apparatus purchase/planning for the FDNY. The current Hazmat 1 (Mack MR) is not 3 or 4 years old, it is actually nearing 10! The 2nd piece is only 4 years old now. I have a feeling the rig running now will become a reserve, or the current spare will become the reserve, and the current Mack will be a spare. (Follow that! lol) The Ferrara will replace the Mack, but all the fans of the Mack, like my self can expect to see it quite a bit. Why? Because it is being replaced by a Ferrara. I am not bashing Ferrara, just stating that a large percentage of their vehicles have issues which cause down time. The FDNY is fortunate to have what some would call a large fleet of spares (but, almost all the spare rigs are out right now).
  5. GREAT WORK!!! I like it! Thank You!
  6. I like it! Nice work!
  7. Lol, I saw that last year around this time but forgot about it. Just as funny the 2nd time!!
  8. Just thought I would post this: What a beauty!
  9. THANK YOU SETH!!! I love these forums, and my addiction is growing to them more and more every time I visit. I learn and share knowledge here, all made possible by you. It is a great environment here, and everyone here for the most part are intelligent mature individuals, un-like the trolls that can be found on other forums. Thanks Again!
  10. Taxpayers are one or two story commercial edifices with wooden interiors and usually masonry exteriors. They are like row shops, or strip malls. They are generally 20x50, and have a basement and cockloft. Problems arise when the cockloft is common amongst other buildings around it. They are generally dangerous fires because these buildings generally are filled with flammable/burnable materials, or worse hazardous materials. They are also hard to fight fires in after hours when roll down metal doors or iron bars are secured over windows and doors.
  11. Depends who you ask... Me, I prefer "hook"
  12. If any of your gear is dirty, wash it. Pants, coat, boots, gloves, hood, and most importantly helmet. We have a melted helmet in a display case at the firehouse. It began to melt shortly after the firefighter entered a fire room. His helmet was filthy and began to absorb heat. His head began to get hot and he got out. If it is such a big thing to have dirty gear, just make more calls. After getting it dirty, and washing it, then getting it dirty again, and washing it, the gear will eventually show wear and dirt, and make you look like a senior guy.
  13. I figured out what the problem is. If you are clicking the links that I have provided here on these forums, there is an extra http added into the address because of the forum software. So, there are two ways to make it work. 1. You can copy and paste this link(don't click it): Http://www.10-75.net OR 2. You can click this link: 10-75.Net I know that at this time the site is up and running, I believe the problem was due to these forums automatically placing an extra http in the URL. Thanks, Eli Gill (Webmaster)
  14. Hello, It is being reported to me that my website was down for a short period of time tonight. At this time it is up and working properly. Http://www.10-75.net Let me know if you continue to experience problems. Thanks, Eli Gill (Webmaster)
  15. I don't know who did it, but I do know that Jim Fordyce put a TON of work into that site. Hours and hours of work. I would like to get some revenge(w/in legal limits), but I don't know who hacked it. Who ever did it, really needs help. Espcially when you take down a scanner buff website...
  16. Ouch. I like the joke!

  18. The Volvo is Ex Ems. It is a temporary vehicle until two stepvans with built-in refrigerated cooling systems are placed into service. The stepvans will also have built-in closed circuit breathing apparatus recharging stations. The Draeger BG-4 is the closed circuit breathing apparatus in use by SOC. It weighs 30 Lbs. All rescues, squads and hazmat 1 have been trained with these, and each unit listed has 1 system. The Air Compressor unit is a 2005 Ford F-450 S&P. It has a Sullair 250 CFM compressor, two 100' air hose reels, and 4 air outlets. It carries four flexible and one long and one short non-flexible tubes. These tubes carried are used for the Con Ed vacuum trucks that are employed at trench rescues and collapse incidents.
  19. It's a good thing he knew to move, I know plenty of cops who would have gotten out (in the cloud) and taken a look around before the FD had arrived.

  21. Nice Rig! It's yellow, but I really like it. The LED lights are a nice accent. Wish that pierce posted better photos.
  22. What did he think was going to happen?
  23. Seth, Did you meet any Elsmere guys while you were up here in Smallbany? They went down there for Kevin Shea. I tried to go, but had school and my parents felt that was just a lame excuse to skip school. I truly wanted to go and honor our fallen brothers, but I couldn't. Hope you are having a fun and safe time. Good Luck!
  24. Last night while at a drill, I had the high pressure line on a brand new SCOTT 4.5 blow, that scared me. After that, I ate car fire smoke for the rest of the night. Not very pleasant. The line blowing could have been much worse, but the smoke probably did more damage to me than anything. Anyway, as many of you can tolerate it, the particles and noxious gases that come with the process of combustion are extremely harmful to your body. Whether they will cause cancer in the long run, or just suffocate you, they all cause nasty problems that could be prevented by donning a mask and pack. Just remember, don't panic if a line blows, this isn't the first one on our new packs that has blown.
