  1. Use an all purpose cleaner like simple green, some water and a brush, spray, agitate and rinse. Then apply a protectant, Meguiars offers some of the best; available OTC at any auto parts store. Pressure washers work well too, but not as well as an apc. That is the easiest way, you can get much more complicated (and spend a bunch of money on products). Check out autogeek.net's forums for much much more information.
  2. Thumbs up.
  3. Coming back from the City one night, their ambulance passed us upwards of 90 mph (cold) and went across all three lanes without signaling. The Fort Lee cop that was a lane over and behind us promptly caught up with them and stopped them. I was almost surprised, but figured they must do it often (from what I had heard).
  4. There is no guarantee in anything, but your chances of getting a career rig out are a lot better...
  5. I understand that, but why pay for the duplication of services? Dozens of ladders and rescues? Why not eliminate it. You can't even make an argument that it is necessary. Especially when these departments aren't guaranteed to get a truck off the floor (I'm sure they do, but there is no guarantee). As I keep saying, why pay more for less? The districts around here get by just fine with much less. This is just my opinion, any argument over the internet isn't going to change it...
  6. I was NOT making a comparison to the FDNY. I am not otj in The City (I made the user name when I was a younger buff and havent bothered to change it). I thought I was clear, but they would save taxpayers a disgusting amount of money by getting rid of most if not all of those departments and providing a paid service. The service would be better too (or at least more reliable). I would also like to add that there are no 19 million dollar firehouses around here and no multi million dollar budgets for the volunteer departments, and they put the fires out just fine.
  7. Those budgets are insane. The money could easily pay for an island wide, countywide or a number of smaller career departments. They would have a better service for less money. (That is not a bash on vollies- How many vollie departments are staffed 24-7?) Paying more to get less doesnt make any sense.
  8. That was NYTF-2, formally NYRRT-1. NYTF-2 has NO affiliation at all with these jolly vollies. The old NYRRT-1 was run by NYSOFPC and a national USAR team, it has been renamed NYTF-2 for uniformity. I somehow doubt they have a CON, at least in the City. Not sure how they can run around with red lights and claim to provide ems services. Maybe the DOH should conduct an investigation. Maybe they are legit... (I strongly doubt it though).
  9. Do they have any full size apparatus?
  10. What a joke. NYRRT used to be the REAL USAR teams for the state, the name was switched to NYTF after 9-11.
  11. "At this time" is over used here, as is "be advised" both are pointless...
  12. Are they poorly constructed or do the companies just not like the rigs?

  14. The proposed 2011+ protocols have been posted, quite a few changes. Take a look. http://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.remo-ems.com%2Fremo%2Fprotocols_downloads%2F2011_Comprehensive_Protocols.pdf
  15. What is the one thing cops and fireman have in common? They both want to be firemen...
  16. Versed is still carried, but they did away with Valium to reduce the number of controlled substances carried. The reason for the D50 to D10 change is a drug shortage (apparently). I havent seen a box of D50 in months, we just cant get it up here. Were short on a lot of drugs up here.
  17. Paramedic services are beng provided again. Now provided by "Jessups Landing EMS" the new agency name operated by the town...

  20. Very interesting.
  21. I guess the truth really hurts some of you guys. I speak based on the irresponsible actions of the local chiefs and assistants with ghost lettering on their vehicles. Maybe south of here the Chiefs drive with respect and decency... But then again, I have seen plenty of Chiefs from Westchester, Rockland and Putnam drive around erratically with the lights and sirens blaring at the HVVFA shows 100 miles out of their response area, so maybe not. Ghost lettering and blue LEDs on fire apparatus wasn't important to have until the cops got it. All of a sudden, everyone has to have it and it apparently has nothing to do with the police having it? If you don't think I should be a moderator because I have an opinion that is different from yours, I am more than happy to give it up. However, I won't give up my opinion.
  22. Is this open to any FF? I would make the trip from Albany for this...

  24. As was stated, it makes it much easier to abuse their powers. I guess they want to look like the cops too...
  25. Nice shot!
