Clearly this isn't over who opens and how the doors are opened. This is a political pissing match over contracts and other business. I'd agree that it plays out poorly in the public eye. I use a garage door opener when we return from a run.....

I sure hope Ferrara has sorted out thier Ultra chassis issues.........

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/03/29/nyregion/anti-semitic-slur-by-a-westchester-fire-chief-stirs-controversy.html?_r=0 Nothing says quality leader and intelligent person like this story......way to go "chief". Could be worse, I guess he could have Tweeted his remarks......

A fight......in hockey. Part of the game. So? By the way, two cops selflessly rushed into a building yesterday investigating a fire. When they were overcome with smoke while stuck in an elevator, firemen rushed in to help our brothers in blue. This is the story of reality on the street everyday. Two agency's that work hard along side each other..... ......oh! Sorry, let's get back to the completely unheard-of occurrence of a fight during a hockey game. (A game that ended with hand shakes and hugs all around)

The new ones being delivered to the city are the same split tilt design as the '08 Seagrave engines.

He's not a private citizen, he's a uniformed officer. There's a difference. He's not Joe Shmo the anti-Semite, he's the face of the Fairview Fire Department. No one will remember his name, but they will remember what the FIRE CHIEF said.

Tower ladders are big cumbersome things no matter what. Some prefer having the bucket in front of you, where it's visible. It reduces the length of the rig overall and eliminates all that overhang in the rear.
-
Yeah? Taxpayer funded public servants in leadership positions can make derogatory remarks like this? I'm the first guy to hate on P.C. bulls#*t, but this isn't the kitchen table in the firehouse......
-
They sure are pieces of shyte huh........

Ya know.....ya can't spend enough money on good people, but good people don't make anti-Semetic comments about the Jewish mayor.
-
Yes, they can tilt the cab inside the house. The ladder doesn't need to be raised all that far. Remember, a lot of our firehouses are narrow and the doors are small, but the ceilings are pretty high.
-
Between engines, tower ladders and rearmounts, the City has ordered almost 200 split tilt rigs in the last few years. Why? Don't know, but the mechanics seem to like it a lot. The Emergency Crew guys (roving mechanics that do repairs in quarters) have that thing tilted all the time. Engine compartment access is terrific.

Christmas is a day that retailers build their year around. I think the birth of some kid (actually born in September) takes a back seat to commerce these days. That said, celebrate how you will. I believe in a higher power, but I don't have one single moments use for religious organizations, churches, ect. The founders of this country made clear on multiple occasions that they'd like the keep religion and govt miles a part. Let's keep biblical sayings off our publicly funded property.

They most certainly have NOT. They are on a constant parade to the shops and the Ferrara mechanics are on constant parade to firehouses for repairs. They have some serious design flaws to go along with serious quality control issues.

The title for this topic is inaccurate. LAFD didn't "choose" anything. The low bidder was awarded a contract.
-
I'm not surprised about the higher percentage of Strain/Sprain injuries. You might be more inclined to ignore a strain if you could go home and not back to the firehouse to finish a 24 hour tour.

So...that's a straight up CARBON COPY of the most recent Seagraves, minus some cosmetics. I guess KME made use of the rig that we sent them in P.A.
-
Any photos pop up of the interior? I'd like to see where I'll be living for the next few years.....cab/back-step layout, important stuff.

Mobile command is what it sounds like. Incident management is something of a logistics office for a prolonged operation. Mobile Operations can be used at large scale public events, setup ahead of time to manage dept. units. Think UN general assembly week or the pope speaking at Yankee Stadium

You and all the unlucky companies with the Ferrara reamounts. They're junk, poorly built junk.
-
Love all the "toys"....... Now can we get some functional front line apparatus that spends more time in service than out?
-
The companies were never closed, you're correct. The 4 previous city budgets cut funding to the FDNY for 20 companies. The city council used thier discretionary funding each year to keep them open. It's good to have the money back in the budget. Now let's see if he adequately pays the people who ride in those, and all the other companies......that's the real test.

I heard it was a box truck...... Seriously though......you could fit about 200 Nolan carts in there along with a couple of the battery powered lead units.
-
If you have space to spare like that, you spec'd the rig poorly. I can't say I agree with it being all too difficult to simply stand or kneel on one hose load to pack another.
-
They don't work 24 hrs.
