  1. Ah yes...White Plains. That makes sense. I suppose they've got that house near the High School and it's fairly close. I just automatically connect that are with Harrison because it's far from WP city center. And the exit North of the Mobil is Harrison. Thanks for the clarification.
  2. Awesome, quick and bold move by the investigator. Also, you can see another group help the person out of the car in front. It's always encouraging to see the public helping one another. However.....this now leads to a question. Why didn't the overhead fire suppression system go off. I've been to gas station fires where it was activated for much less. Had it gone off, that fire would have been knocked down right quick. Is that being looked into? Did Harrison Fire respond and does anyone from there know what went down?
  3. KME engines are starting to come in. CTS has a new rig and it's been delivered to the shops. ID #KE14001. http://postimg.org/image/j8zsyoy5j/ Engine 97 is almost complete/ http://postimg.org/image/gbwyw02k9/ I can't credit the photos, they're posted elsewhere with no credit. One appears to be courtesy of the Milton Fire Dept.
  4. Then, the repelled with a line, today we have the hi-rise nozzle......aka coward stick. Kidding aside, there are plenty of instances every year where the hallway of a hi rise is completely untenable.
  5. Very interesting.......very. Open hydrants are a huge problem for us in the Bronx. Both water pressure and the public niusence. We've had stores flooded because kids opened the adjacent hydrant. It's amazing, the magnetic Custodian wrench necessary has been circumvented by the locals in many ways. It mind as we'll not be there..... I'd like to know more about the wrench needed to open the hydrant. What's it look like? How can you manage a divicd that demands 3000 lbs of pressure....I'd like to know more.....
  6. These are some great photos, Ron. Keep'em comin!
  7. Can I get an Amen........
  8. I'm with this one.......if the brakes got too hot, then they need bigger brakes.
  9. Overweight or not.....this isn't a city bus or oil delivery truck, ect, that's riding up and down the roads all day everyday. It's an emergency vehicle and it can't possibly be out often enough to do regular and permanent damage. This seems like a silly fight.... Although.....maybe they'd get under the weight limit if they shaved off a few air horns.......
  10. Awesome photos! Big house to have only one bay door. What was the interior like? Anyone ever been inside?
  11. Me neither.......does that make us "minorities"? Fact remains though, women are the super minority and in this video this one shows, as do many out there in FDNY-land, that there are qualified women for this job. Hopefully the press and the fraternal groups will finally choose to put these fine examples on a pedestal rather than prop up the weak.
  12. I've been in the room countless times when some big dudes were given a lot of narcan, enough to wake them up....the violence was overcome by thier need to vomit everywhere. Point is, in many dozens of occasions, I've never seen someone become uncontrollably violent.
  13. F.D.N.Y. is in the process of training all Engine Co's in the administration of Narcan. Doesn't seem like there's much too it. What's the harm really? There's been a sharp up-tick in the use of Heroine and other opioids, so why not equip first responders with a counter measure. Remember too, this isn't just for the needle junky in the ally. What happens when your toddler stumbles upon a bottle of Oxy, or whatever, in your medicine cabinet. It's cheap, it's easy to administer and it's ALMOST completely safe if given when not necessary. As for fixing EMS systems, I'll leave that for another time and thread.....
  14. Perhaps all is not lost! diBlasio set to name retired Chief of Department, Daniel Nigro as F.C. http://nypost.com/2014/05/08/mayor-set-to-name-33-year-veteran-as-fire-commissioner/
  15. Hey ks1980, bring a good attitude and an Entenminns and you'll be welcomed in any firehouse in the city. As long as we're not at a busy point in the day (building inspection, drilling, ect.) someone will be happy to show you around and shoot the sh!t for a few. 5 pm or after is a good time if you want to be sure to avoid time when the companies might be busy. Ride alongs are a no-no, but, hey, ya never know......
  16. Wow....lotsa conclusions being made here. It seems that there was confusion about where the patient was going to be brought, not trouble with an underway transfer. The captain stated that he had to get underway an FD/PD made way for that to happen. They settled on a place to meet outside of the Narrows. Done and done....
  17. Did ya read what I wrote....... Who's screaming at EMT's? I've worked almost everyday since that fire and no one is making any negative commentary about the EMT's, certainly not around the kitchen table. Was there screaming the night of the fire? I wasn't there, but I'm sure there was. It was a tragic and chaotic scene and tensions run high. If you take those moments personally, you need a thicker skin on the streets. With regard to who made the mistake and when the mistake was made, those people have only begun feeling the pain of their error...we know some of who is responsible and at this point no one is under the impression that anyone manning a bus is to blame.
  18. Some rank and file EMT who has no idea what they're talking about. The issue is not, "what took them so long to get there". The issue is, why was there a delay in dispatching them. There was too much time between the transmission of the 10-75 (which should initiate an EMS response) and the actual dispatching of ALS and BLS units. This individual, Marcella, is clearly taking the press coverage personally. When in reality, the EMTs and Medics on the street are not being questioned about the adequacy of their response. EMS members should really be asking the same questions. "Why did it take so long for us to be sent?". I'm sure they are asking themselves that.
  19. Kids in High school belong in bed well rested for the school day. They don't need the added stress of responding to emergencies, nor do they need the distraction. If your dept. relies on 18 year olds in school, then they're in trouble.....
  20. What are the Rochester Protectives?
  21. I'd bet this won't be the end of this discussion. Arbitration or no, work hours are increasing and quality of life issues are exponential here. I think you'll see a lawsuit before any of this takes place. This will play out terribly for the members of DCFD.
  22. I'm keeping a positive outlook....the quota hiring is over, mostly. My Co. got 4 probies in the last year and they're all great.
  23. This would be funnier if it didn't cut so close to the bone..... There's a group out there (The United Women Firefighters) who claim that certain physical elements of the academy are too strenuous solely to keep women out and that these elements of training are not job related. Shame too.....plenty of the women on the job now are fully capable, but the UWF is filled with malcontented whiners who prop-up the weakest and don't champion the strong. Sounds like another group out there.....shares a name with a planet in Star Trek....
  24. Cassano didn't do too much by the rank and file......he won't be missed. We all know the commish has to follow the bidding of City Hall, but Cassano sold his soul. That said.......the devil you know...... Word on the street is Mylan Denerstien is the #1 contender. She's currently with the Cuomo administration and served as Deputy Commisioner for Legal Affairs under Commisionser Scopetta. She was rumored to be the runner-up to Cassano when he was appointed by Bloomberg.
