nice truck but looks like a camel being a race horse. i like the idea of keeping the scba's out of the back and the reasons why but they are still in the back with this design. look a the video again especially at 2:43 seconds into it. you will see that the scba compartment is open to the back of the truck so anything off gases from the packs will still be in the same compartment. i like the idea and the reasons behind it but i don't get the way they did it.

oh no doubt it was a great fast knock down. just good to look at this video, take a moment and think. Some really great ideas and observations. as far as the navy nozzle i know its something new guys don't know or haven't seen but i saw one on the rescue one day and was oh thats cool we have one. i'm a commercial sailor and well we have a ton of them on the ship. and sold brass vary nozzles too... they are a pain when salt gets in them though. and we don't use fresh water in the firemain. but i like the video, shows alot of good things and again a great fast knock down.

we have it on the rescue in my department but why not attack from the outside using a navy low velocity fog nozzle. i believe we have a 6 foot one, just the right height to go around the bus get the knock down and cool down. then you can enter and mop up the hot spots. Just seems like this guy took a risk, especially if the fuel tank let lose, yes it's diesel but it will ignite.

Yeah down county. Empress has or had flycars in Yonkers. Sorry I don’t know much about them. Mt Vernon I’m not sure if it’s a flycar or ambulance. New rochelle is three als ambulance from empress. I don’t know if they got a fourth. Pelham has a flycar I believe Greenburg has flycar or cars for the river towns. Tarrytown ivirington and Dobbs ferry. And they cover elemsford als wise. Elemsford FD has BLs ambulances. White plains I believe is empress they have a 24 als bus and a supervisor flycar medic. I don’t know if the BLs is 24hrs yet I know they have been putting more units on when it was trancare in white plains grasslands is is covered by empress. I know they had a 24 als bus I recently heard they might have put the medic in a flycar and put two ambulances on 24 hrs. Im sure other people on here know down county better then me sorry if I’m wrong with some of it

so westchester ems has the contracts for 45 medics and 37 medics. the numbers for the fly car medics are for the response area the cars work in. so when transcare went under and wems took over the mt pleasant medics the number didn't change to 45. where as ambulance agencies the first two numbers represent the agency 40 is westchester ems 51 is armonk fd 52 is bedford fd and so on the B1 is BLS ambulance 1 for a said agency so A1 would be an ALS amulance 1 for a said agency here is a list of fire apparatus for the county... there used to be one for ems but i can't find it http://emergencyservices.westchestergov.com/images/stories/pdfs/fire/APP2017.pdf

45 Medics Medic 1 Armonk, Banksville, Chappaqua, Millwood, Mt Kisco, Bedford, Bedford Hills up to harris rd Medic 2 Katonah, Somers, Bedford Hills North of Harris Rd North Salem West of RTE 22 Medic 3 South Salem, North Salem East of 22, Vista, and Pound Ridge. Katonah is central for them so when its one medic in service that medic reposts to katonah When medic 1 goes out medic 2 goes to mt kisco medic 3 goes central when medic 2 or 3 goes out the other medic either 2 or 3 goes central. 40Bravo1 a bls unit that picks up 911 calls from majority of the nursing homes in the 45 response area as first due. also back fills for when a volunteer crew can not be mustered.

It's doesn't make sense but if it works. Has NYC changed the ALS protocols that a medic can work alone without a medic partner ? If so I think this is good

its being progressive to cover in the times they can't. i know some agencies go with a paid ambulance when they have christmas parties and other function becuase of bad timing in schedules with surrounding agencies and what not. I know somers fire has a been thinking about or putting in a line budget iteam for a paid chief. if the money is there before you need it your in better shape. sucks when you need to scrap it together.

... last time i checked ny was a home rule state, so the town would have to put out the RFP/RFQ, or the agency that holds primary response in that area.... I believe 60 control is just trying to get an ambulance to someone... be it volunteer or commercial. I also believe they have a very strict set of protocolls to fallow too, i am sure someone from 60 control or someone who once worked there can answer that question better. I know white plains the contract is controled by the police department, every city and town in westchester is different.

Your right the topic headline should be changed to career not profesional. Both career and volunteer claim to be professionals. That being said, it doesn't matter if a career chief or voluteer chief made the statements. The statement is strait up wrong. You represent not only the fire department but the town too. Which intails more responsibility then actually known. and in todays world even someone at an entry level has to becareful on what they say and where they say it. cell phones are recording everything. If this is true that this statement is over a year old... this department has some big issues and this act by the mayor is going to pull it all out. I hope that they can get infront of this and take control.

how does the mayor and trustees have control over something like this? shouldn't it be controlled by the board of fire commisioners? what if the tables were turned and they laid off cops? i can understand cutting a budget but completely getting rid of a fill in for a fire service.... seems like a knee jerk reactions and they also cut there nose despite their face. should be intresting in the future and what the courts decide on this one.

the article is not looking at the big picture but blaming that nys going to more of a national standard is wrong and driving volunteers away... maybe you should look at why volunteer numbers are going down. i know in my old department, they lack the number of volunteers and thoses with the right training/experince in the department to fill the ranks of chief. yes getting jrs in is good but keeping them is the trick, why do they leave the town? cost of livinig? work? yes some get jobs out of state, but a good chunk leave because they can't afford 2k a month for a room, and forget about them being able to purchase a house in the town. high 700k to a million. i've heard of great ideas out side of ny where volunteer departments and agencies had homes, for single members they would pay the utilies equally and be responsible for responding to calls more then the average i believe, im not too sure. i heard somewhere around 15% annually as a minium, im sure im wrong. but its something that would help and keep the members in town, and in the department and agencies. taking steps backward and reducing the standard of care to less then what it is today is not the answer. making classes more flexible could help too.

there is always more then one side to a story, but at first if a chief orders you to do something as simple as to not use department issued equipment on your facebook page. Would you go and cry to a news station about it? or take it down then meet with said chief and talk about whats going on? If i was the chief and this happened. I would expect to meet with them or set up a meeting about having pictures of department equipment posted on a personal facebook page. to me it sounds like there was an issue in the past that brought this about, im guessing it was bad media. if i was getting married and wanted to announce something like that using the fire department equipment i would put it past the chief and fire commisioners before i would post a single thing. Image is everything theses days, cops going out and doing acts of kindness and recording it, i that most of the cops doing good videos, that are recorded by there partners or themselves is given department permission before its posted on line. What the public posts is out the any and all departments control. just look at any of the numerous videos people post about police. I only mention police because well they are a hot topic in social media. the chief made a policy. chain of command. it may be stupid but its something they should have talked to the chief and powers to be prior to bringing it to the media, now they will have a bigger issue.

the coast guard has put it on local municipalities. fact is a 20 foot zodiac and a 25 foot whaler along with a 30 foot rig will be working hard with 25 knot sustained wind with 50 kt gusts. they will need to be rescued. instead of doing the rescue

There's alot of problems with operation north of the washington bridge on the hudson river. The biggest is the correct rescources.... its not there. I've seen the police and fire boats on the river. They can't handle a large to major incident in 5 foot seas. yes the hudson can and has experienced seas that big and alittle bigger. Someone needs to get a 50-60 foot steel or alumiun boat similar to what NYPD has. Without a jet drive, either direct drive shafts. A large 500 to 1500 GPM pump that can also be lined up to send a suction hose over to a vessel with a plumped fire monitor and a portable one. In addition to a manifold set up to run hand lines. Along with portable pumps, gas, or electric, 3cm and 10cm radars, FLIRR, 2 VHF radios with DSC, ECDIS, DGPS two units, 2 trunk radios (since ems and fire are on different bands), radios for rockland and nyc NYPD avaition and marine units. Below deck a "med bay" one or two M tanks, BLS supplies minus the drugs. a PAD. Rescue equipment: scoop with vertical and horizontal lifting straps, a PECU (portible exothermix cuting unit), 2 peri-jet dewater, Foam and lots of it. 500 gallon min. with appriorate nozels and attachtments for monitors. standard fire fighting tools, haligan, axes, crowbars, sledge hammers, wedges, cribbing, along with multiple fire extinguishers, co2, dry chem, pkp, this is just some of the things that should be availible at a moments notice on the hudson river. think and prepare for the worst... a loaded barge with gasoline vs a fully loaded ferry in a good storm. it can happen don't say it can't. its just a matter of time before agencies along the river get caught with there pants down and its not going to be good. yes FDNY and NYPD will step in but FDNY will take a while to get the big boats up the river, NYPD aviation will be on scene very fast with divers. and the NYPD patrol boats will come too in time, probably faster then the bigger FDNY boats. But there newer boats are fast now, not like the firefighter. you might say why only receational boats and some tug boats go up and down the river... yes they do along with some commercial ships from time to time. how will the recources availible now assist a crew of 15 on a ship with a large engine room fire ? anchor the vessel in the channel? put her in a soft bank? call for tug boats that have barges alongside? The new tappen zee bridge is going to be higher, that means bigger ships can come up the river. they will no longer be restricted by air draft, the river is about 30-35 feet deep in the channel in the shoal spots... a litte dregging and that can become 50 feet. I don't think a massive surge of ships will come up the river but an occationaly a big ship can and more then likely will. plan on it. thats my rant for now, mind you i am in the merchant marine, a paramedic, and a vol. fire fighter for some years. looks ok but nothing like the real thing. ladders and stairs are nice and wide and not to vertical. i've had a couple of fires on ships. water is the one of the last things. we use fire extinguishers until its too big or on deck. also ships have at least one fix fire fighting system. CO2 Drops in the engine room. one ship i was on had CO2 and Halon. Another had CO2 and a water mist system for the engine room. But there is always only one way in our out of a state room. The Engine room there are typical others and some very tight escape hatches. but you are not making a way out yourself unless you have some c4 or a plasma tourch. I hope they still go out to the training ship empire state at ny maritime college, when the ship is not away for the summer. I know the dive team has some stuff at the bottom of the boat basin they always bring up and put back down.

its a little weird with the vapor line runing in the man hole. Same they didn't put on a couple of other things, like PVs, Deck breaker, water seal, an emergecny shut down station. There are more then just tank barges and bunker barges in ny harbor. Looks like they have a mock ship behind it or a something. I know the FDNY used to go to NY Maritime College and train on the training ship. I know some gues got the s*** scared out of them when they when zero visibility and put in a machinery space.
