No point if he just took it. Contact the IC of the course or the program director. If they still are not getting back to you go ahead and contact the AHA directly and see if they can't get you a card. Good luck.

V&T law is pretty damn clear. Someone needs to issue him a citation or arrest him.

You don't call for a chopper because it's rush hour or because it's a perceived faster method of transport (often it's not). This mentality is why you have Stat flight called for standby on every freaking MVA. As far as the price one of the flight nurses once told me ~$10,000.00 just to land the thing...

Alamo no longer provides EMS coverage to Pawling or Beekman - those unit designations are owned by the respective FDs

Thats a pretty stupid saying if you ask me. The bird is a limited resource that fulfills a very narrow and defined purpose. Likewise, it should never be abused. Lets not forget that the birds are also used for critical care inter facility transports and those patients are just as entitled to the resource. Calling in a chopper = a multi thousand dollar bill. It would suck to be whacked with that sorta bill on top of the usual ER fees only to have, oh lets say...a broken arm or dislocated shoulder. But hey, when in doubt fly them out, right? Wrong. Good clinical judgment needs to be applied to any incident in which a chopper is even considered.

English would be great because i did not understand one thing you were trying to say.

If anyone can manage it, try and buy from companies who use only domestic oil. I had gotten an email about companies who import their oil and companies who use domestic. The only company i can remember off the top of my head is Hess and whenever i drive be one of their stations they area always cheaper by a few cents.

Politics, politics, politics...

What the hell do you care? You don't even live in the City. God knows if you were living pay check to pay check for putting out fires, or getting shot at or treating and transporting 14 patients a tour your opinions would make a quick 360. Hope the EMS union jumps on this bandwagon... Now i know why my girl's father (Lt. in FDNY) told me never to work for NYC...
-
Thats cool and all but you gotta draw the line somewhere. Eventually you end up with group think...and thats never good...
-
Unfortunately, i had a feeling that this was bound to happen. Hopefully the Union steps up.

"(Average annual salary for firefighter $39,640. Average annual salary for police & sheriff patrol officer $46,180. Average salary for paramedic/emergency medical technician $27, 650.)" Gotta love that... I strongly dislike him and hate his politics, but hope he does get well soon. Sponsoring a few public safety bills don't make you a saint. You don't get something for nothing, just ask any DC lobbyist. Really, you can pass all the bills you want but until someone decides to create a national EMS body and take it out of it's obscure office in NHTSA HQ thus giving it the respect and authority it requires, don't bother me.

Last time i checked the Constitution i was entitled to freedom of Speech and i exercised that right. I have zero tolerance for anyone who asserts that they have such a disgust for the country they wonder if it's worth living here. If you think it's that bad, leave. Doors open but good luck at finding anyplace on the earth that comes close to what you enjoy here. Furthermore, this situation requires some perspective. While i am not a father i know that i would sue the living hell out of anyone if it meant that i could give my kid a shot at living a semi-normal life. I can't even imagine the medical expenses let alone the price of the continuing care, special therapies and schools. Unless your rolling in millions, the chances are it's going to be hell making ends meet. If i could squeeze cash out of Louisville or Little League so that i can get my kid what he needs, I'll do it because God knows that sitting around waiting for a handout or charity is going to get you nowhere fast.

So leave.

Politics. Check out http://www.advocatesforems.org/ to see some of the stuff thats going on. I think if i expand on anything I'll just end up getting pissed off and subsequently starting a firestorm here so I'll refrain.

2004 Troop 1 Purchase, NY

There is no incentive to work for the FDNY. Maybe if they threw EMS a legitimate union and a livable wage i would consider it. Until then, i'll keep talking with the privates.

No problem. Like i said, commercial agencies are easy to score a position at - ones that let you run 911 and transports is probably the best because it keeps you on your toes and hones all skills. Best of luck in the search.

It's union, so the pay for techs is alright - i think its somewhere in the 12 dollar range. Only thing is - and i don't know this definitively - they may stick with you doing transports for their transport division for 6 months b/c your fresh out of class. Don't work there but I've heard of that happening. Fact is, you need to get at least a year under your belt before you can think of applying to the vast majority of agencies or hospitals. Commercials are usually pretty good at giving you lots of experience, they often cover various areas/regions, you run 911 and transports and you learn how to interact with different agencies - PD, FD, vollies etc. Every company has it's BS and politics so i guess whatever you feel is the best fit is the one you should work for.

Arlington's 3 + 2 outside?

Not saying they could or am i advocating having them do that. But, in all honesty, how often do you need 2 paramedics in the back working up a patient? I've only been doing this a few years and have only seen it a handful of times. I understand it's nice to have a second set of ALS or competent BLS hands in the back. But, why couldn't the FF/EMT bag that CHF patient while you setup the CPAP? Or take vitals while you get the 12 lead ready and maybe even set up a lock or run a line while you get ready to do an IO? Just a thought.
-
Why not just have a FF hop off the engine and into the back if the extra hands are needed? If these guys are running a FR engine then they must have some form of BLS training, no?

I suppose that 500 grand comes from combined fire & ems response as far as Marist is concerned. Why not approach administration and propose that they include a small health and safety fee for student tuition. Say, somthing along these lines: $100 a year for resident students and $50 for commuter. 100.00 x the 4000 resident students = $400,000.00 Have them cut you a check twice a year for what they bring in under the health and safety fee.
-
My understanding is that Marist donates money to the FD? Someone in one of those articles threw around the number of $115,000? Does that cover the responses to the college?
