I think hes refering to the Empress ambulance.

Let's not forget to also give a pat on the back to the home team as well. Job well done by PCRRB*EMS - they held things down at the MCI and covered their own calls as well.

That’s an ignorant and problematic statement and only highlights the fact that you apparently have no experience in either type of system. While I am a adamant supporter of having EMS as a completely independent civil service, the facts on the ground are that this is unlikely to happen in the near future. Right now commercials fill a very real void/disconnect between the reality on the ground and the ineptness of politicians and the political process more generally. Given that, to try and say that commercial agencies are money hungry machines and they – essentially the field personnel who are employed by said company – don’t represent some form of altruism/caring/compassion bothers me. For the sake of intelligent discussion, I suggest you redirect your frustration to your local/state/federal representatives who have and continue to drag their feet on addressing the reality. And for what it's worth i no longer work commercial EMS.

Glad to see the state took serious action.

Likely not going to score a 911 only gig if your a brand new tech, unless you go through FDNY I suppose. In NY most EMS is not done via civil service exam, from my experience a resume will be you’re "exam" and you are placed on a list of candidates according to your experience. Most places look for at least 1 year of high/moderate volume work. Usually a commercial experience suffices and you're either going to have to reach out to agencies/companies on you’re own or know someone on the inside who can put a good word in for you. As far as job outlook, run numbers are only going up so EMTs and Medics will always be in great need. Best of luck.

Injustice? It's the internet dude.

I think its this sort of banter that the OP was referring to. Aside from the fact i feel EMS is underrepresented here (not the anyone's fault, just how it worked out i guess), one of the largest reasons my reading/posting has become more infrequent is due in large part because of too many whacker posts about lights and "omg was there a shooting?stabbing in xyz last night??!" or "omg why was xyz dept toned out? Is the county imploding?!" Honestly, who cares? Recently, it seems there has been a push from the top down to stimulate some more mature and beneficial discussion. I think it's a great move and would love to see more of it.

Bingo. Why does a 1 square mile district require 6 asst chiefs? At this rate, might as well just tax me some more and use all my money to buy everyone a Tahoe. If you look at some of the busier career departments you're not going to get 3 chiefs on a residential or commercial alarm. So, if you ask me, these things start to become an over exaggerated POV and serious drain on my tax dollars. Can't tell you how many times I’ve pulled up to a scene to see the plethora of chief's cars and they all have family in them (wife/kids).

Coffee is an essential component of the 24 hour tour my friend.

Donation made. Not much, but it helps. Thanks for letting us know about this.

Anyone know if REMO has this? I bet if they don't they are working on something. Too bad other regions havent learned from some of the success REMO has had in giving their paramedics more latitude.

The ONLY good thing about Starbucks is they treat uniformed services pretty well. Fire/Police/EMS where i've worked have always gotten free drinks. Other than that, i think their coffee is like drinking rams piss. Personally, i'm all about the Dunkin so this doesn't bother me one bit.

I don't think today's robots have the ability to articulate and carry out rather complicated tasks as well as humans can. In the case of firefighting, just about everything is probably not replicable by a robot be it taking a hand line through the front door, venting, performing searches, etc. The tasks are too complicated and the situations far too varied.

rehab in westchester? it's non existant...

The highest and purest form of patriotism has been and always will be serving your country in any branch of the armed forces. Period. As far as volunteering is concerned, it’s patriotic on some level but not always pure. Look at the emergency services. Too man incentives (the only incentive should be to serve your community) and inconsistency in protection/responses have really watered it down over recent years. Likewise, because I get compensated for what I provide to a community, that doesn’t make me any less of a servant or patriot. I would actually argue we come far closer to being selfless and patriotic civil servants than many volunteers.

Westchester doesn't have fentanyl in the protocols so how could you remove MS for pain management?

Word is Mohawk Ambulance put a bid in for the contract. Shame that the Town of Colonie couldn't get it's shizzie straight and continue to provide what appeared to be a quality partnership.
-
Dead and burried. Some people just don't want to admit it. Albany needs to stop wasting it's time giving out tax credits, gas credits and special plates and start opening the door for consolidation.
-
b**** about the volunteers or point out critical flaws everyone seems to brush under the rug? I'll keep "b***hing" as long as volunteers are getting rewarded for delivering a sub-standard level of care/protection to their citizens. I pray you never have to wait 45 minutes for an ambulance or only get a sole chief's car if youre residential alarm system goes off.
-
Too many carrots are being thrown at volunteers these days. Just because i do this for a living doesn't necessarily mean I'm well off and just because someone volunteers doesn't mean they are struggling to fill their gas tank.

The oil goes into your gas pump. People forget that we get ~41% of our oil from our own country, 9% from Canada, 7% from Mexico. So, that's ~57% from North America alone. Of course we get like ~8% from Saudi Arabia and Venezuela. And lower percents from various other countries. This entire thing is all speculation, from top to bottom.

enjoy the festivities ill be working!

Doubt it, the Runway is probably too short.

Steve, Rye Brook goes as far as the County Airport down 120/King Street. So it's a few miles larger than you plotted. It would be a large and varying district, but honestly if it was done right it could be done well. Like i said, hire a good number more career guys, add a station between Rye and Rye brook - maybe somewhere IAO Rye Ridge Shopping Center or even down towards the beginning of Purchase Street. This way, i would get better protection and actually see my 800 thousand tax dollars go to good use. Right now, i don't really SEE them being utilized. I see a Rye Brook Engine and Truck and a PCFD chief's car...

Unless of course my esteemed village board decides to renew that contract. I think that 800+ grand could be better spent in hiring 6 additional guys and running 24/7. I wouldn't be oppose to combining RFD and RBFD as long as you've got 3-4 guys on each piece of equipment and career leadership that would obviously oversee the career guys but also to work with the vollie contingent.
