Which makes it even worse. Just goes to show we are our own worst enemy. We need to start doing the right thing and maybe knowing that there are thousands of cameras out there will keep those of us who would otherwise opt to slack off on their toes.

I'm acutely aware of what the protocol is, but i never said a word about protocol. But, on the basic level, this doesn't afford someone the right to clear. The state will tell you themselves that it is not a clearance protocol - this is a digression, but if you forgo immobilization you better have done a damn good assessment of the patient with c-spine being held and good twice over of the car. Do i feel they did the right thing? Hard to answer that - wasn't there so i can't say definitively. But the picture gives the impression (again IMPRESSION) that the person needed some sort of assistance. Between the person holding him up and what appears to be a grimace on his face i can tell you the whole thing just doesn't sit well with me. I just don't think a picture like that puts us (primarily EMS) in all that good of a light...

I say use it. Treasury Secretary Geitner got around around paying 30 grand with TurboTax, YOU CAN TOO!!!

More or less. Or he's trying to "stick it to the man." Either way he got what he deserved. I was picking up some books for a class i'm taking and i was searching in the isle for what i needed and i over heard two mooks next to me talking about how one of them had been arrested for possession. F this and f that and f the cops. Meanwhile, he got caught because he was driving like an a$$. The biggest problem with this society is that very few people step up to the plate and are accountable for their actions. Today it's far too easy to pass the buck and blame the cop (as if he made you drive like a moron and hotbox your car), your boss, your parents, the government, etc. etc. What it comes down to, in my opinion, is a total lack of balls by far too many in America.

That and i guess they can now now can carry cardizem without having to replace it every 30 days.

http://icecast.scanamerica.us/ scroll through there they seem to have a few hundred different links for various scanners from around the country. Example of how to format it in FStream (for those who are having trouble): URL: http://icecast.scanamerica.us/ny_putnam (this is dependent on what you choose it seems usually its formatted by state_county/jurisdiction) Content Type: MP3 Bit Rate: 16

That looks pretty drowned out to me....they appear more or less white. Either way, im not in the business of ordering ambulances so i work with what i'm assigned. But, like i said earlier, i think a combination of LED, strobes and rotators are the most effective warning light combination for all weather/times of day.
-
Biggest problem with LED warning lights is they get drowned out in bright sunny conditions. Seems to me that a combination of LEDs, Rotators and Strobes are your best bet. But, like others have said, you can put 50 grand in lights on your truck and it wouldn't make a damn difference. Just make sure you use everything - lights, siren, defensive driving and due regard.

cool, i'll test it out! Just another great feature to the iPhone! Also, glad to see you can stream over 3G and your not bound by WiFi Edit: Just threw in the FDNY link and its streaming beautifully

They probably didn't want to get caught with their pants down again after they dropped the ball on that 10/4/2008 fire.

reminds me of when i took my lifeguard class 7 years ago. cool.

why oh why do we still have these threads? The V&T law as it pertains to blue/green lights is pretty clear. 1 single dash rotator is what is permitted, anything in excess of that is probably considered illegal. No reason, what so ever, for anything more than a modest front facing option. If the safety of your vehicle is the concern and thus the reason why one would look to install additional lights, just go to the fire house/ambulance headquarters and turn out with the truck.

I'll give it a try on my iPhone, got any URLs to try out?

Picture of a Larchmont VAC bus just after 9/11 in the city, i think it was from Time Magazine or something?
-
Yeah, it still exists. Buddy of mine graduated from it over the summer.

Presby isn't hiring. All privates are difficult - your not going to come out of tech class and hop on a NYC 911 truck, it just is not going to happen. Vinny's wants a minimum of 4 years as an EMT with decent experience before they will consider you.

First of all i never made any generalization about any fire department or firefighter(s). I spoke directly of my experience and my experience alone. I never espoused that i "saw it all" all i said was that on the vast majority of calls my partners and i are capable of handling the call in a safe, timely and effective manor ourselves. That's my responsibility as a professional. When i worked in areas where FD ran CFR (don't work in a system like that any more) 99.99% of the time i or my partner released the engine company almost immediately. From where i stand, there is no point in holding them up on a sick call but. Cardiac arrest or a very nasty job - that tended to be a different story but that wasn't an every day occurrence. Never once did a patient suffer because i or my partner released the fire crew from an EMS call. I'm sorry, I'm not just not going to keep them on an EMS call for vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, it's a mixed bag. Some guys don't mind running EMS and some guys hate it. Sometimes you get a good assessment sometimes you get nothing. Thats just the truth as i have experienced it. Bnechis and DR104, if your departments take an aggressive proactive approach to EMS then thats great. I'm sure patients benefit, but that isn't the case everywhere.
-
Honestly, i never felt that i needed to have a fire department respond with me. My partners and i are very capable of holding down calls ourselves. When i worked with an FD who ran medical calls i always let them go 10-8 once we got there. Most of the time they had no desire to be there or running EMS calls in general and we never needed any additional help anyway so back in service they went. I guess it all depends on your system, but as apparent from this article, it often comes down to increasing run numbers to justify jobs, budgets, etc. There really is little mention to see if the patient benefits from a CFR response.

You missed the point. It has nothing to do with bush or obama, it has to do with the fact that some of these people DO in fact return to terror in some capacity. I'm just not willing to roll the dice. Hes keeping a campaign promise but hes avoiding decisiveness. He declared Gitmo would be closed down in a year but what are we going to do with these detainees, how and where they are going to be tried? He doesn't even know and while thats fine i'm not sure i agree with pulling the trigger on setting a timetable for closure without having more of a plan our outline on how the government is going to deal with the 200 some odd people that are there. And for that "torture" nonsense - im convinced its a load of hot air. Water boarding isn't torture and if you personally consider it so, it was used on something like 5 individuals. Including Kahlid Sheik Mohammed the guy who thought up the 9/11 concept while hanging out in Afghanistan. Water boarding doesn't seem all that bad given that he is responsible for 3,000 + individual cases of homicide.

I had posted this once before here but it go no attention so I'm going to throw it up again. If you care about the future of EMS i implore you to go to the website! www.advocatesforems.org I urge everyone to go there and look around the website. It is the only DC based firm that lobbies on EMS's behalf - that i know of. I have been a long time member and urge everyone to browse their website, if you can't become a member forward the link to your administration - maybe your agency can become a member. Also, they provide template letters urging your members of the house and senate to become members of the EMS Caucus they have created. Attached is their legislative agenda in MS word .doc format. Again, i strongly urge you to check this organization out. They are the only organization that i know of that is fighting on capital hill to get EMS the recognition it needs! http://www.iht.com/articles/2009/01/23/mid...ee.1-414168.php Hm, think the President is regretting closing down Gitmo?

I would put money that it happens multiple times a day - likely more than it should. Like i said earlier, the problem in Westchester is that many agencies are overwhelmed by 1 call. We aren't talking 2 or 3 dropping at once we are talking the first call of the day. The thing with Fire Departments is that, at least around here, they can get away with sending just a chief's car to an AFA. You can't do that many other places, but it's acceptable for the vast majority of Westchester. So when MA is called i would venture to say that it is usually on larger incidents (bad accidents and actual fires) so more people are willing to come out and play. Unlike a fire call, when you turn out for an EMS run you're committing to at least an hour (in many cases, some places have shorter turn around). There are more than enough people that would be willing to drive and ride in an ambulance blazing lights and sirens but when it comes to the meat and potatoes (treating and transporting) many couldn't be bothered.
-
Well they do have two ambulances (pretty new ones, i used to see them up at VBH and SFH when i was working up there) and they do a pretty good job of getting out (see, i'm not that bad of a person!).
