Chris, NY10570 said that if a job is flagged by EMD as anaphylaxis's ALS is assigned. Maybe NY can clarify if that means ALS is assigned along with a presumably closer BLS unit?

First of all, cool your jets. The auto-injector program is available to all agencies if they choose to participate - they are not required to by any state regulations. Comparing Westchester and NYC is like apples and oranges. At least the ambulances in NYC respond to jobs within ~6 minutes. So, hey, carry all the epi you want but when a good portion of those 150 Westchester 911 ambulances never leave the garage in a timely fashion what difference does it make? While i couldn't tell you why the FDNY does not have auto injectors, it may very well have to do with developing the proper protocol, developing QA/QI, rolling out the employees and purchasing the proper equipment. You are dealing with a much larger and far more complex beast, it takes time and lots of cash (which the city does not have, mind you) to make this sort of stuff a reality. Who knows, it may even be in the works.

CT - print out the reciprocity form, mail it to CT DOH, fill out the top of the investigation form and fax it to NYS DOH. In a few weeks you should get a letter saying your a CT EMT and it will give you your number. Few weeks after that you will get your cards.

Apt point. 4 BLS fly cars is absolutely pointless. I'm also not sure if a motorcycle is applicable for every day use - but they do things very different from us. I can see it being used at special events, though.

Can't deduct a whole lot but what i do (or at least give my accountant): - receipts for uniform dry cleaning - receipts for uniform expenses (only larger items like pants, uniform shirts and boots if i need more than what i'm issued) - I also submit my yearly membership costs for NAEMT and Advocates for EMS (not sure if all or a portion is taken off) Thats about the extent of what is taken off as far as work is concerned. I have a buddy who writes off gas to and from places of work, but that is something way beyond anything i have time for.

South Main. sure does look different

Bah. Medic 1's old durango and Medic 2's black on black explorer were where it was at.

Because the towns don't want to pay for a type III. I never had an issue with a van when i worked in dutchess, it really was all relative in my eyes. Besides, i think Beekman has a box ambulance at their firehouse. You wouldn't know it existed, though. About the magnets...seeing them turned upside was pretty funny. Nothing wrong with a chuckle in the middle of a rough day.

like the nostalgic pics, badass.

Nothing. I got a run while i was waiting for my food to be prepared. The extent of my facial expression was smiling at the little boy and his sister when we walked in.

Nice shots Photounit - see some familiar faces that i miss! LB, you're turning into a super buff!

Forget what is right for the indavidual for a second. The thing that agravates me is that this perpetuates the ignorance, while our pd and fd brethren are viewed as having rewarding careers saving lives and preventing injury to life and property (property being the key in our society). Just today as my partner and I walked into a local joint for lunch a lady and her children were sitting at a table, I guess the little boy asked his mother who we were. She couldn't even give the kid a straight answer, after about 45 seconds of fumbeling she came up with. - we were "emergency workers who drive in an emergency truck." go figure.

Try a map next time! City of Pok isn't all that hard to navigate in. Nice shots LB - do me a favor and empty out your PM box so i can reply to you.

I understand the premise behind the move, but it's one of those catch 22s...i mean, wouldn't it endanger the lives of the guys in the other stations?

Nice shots LB. Do me a favor, shoot me a PM.

Jesus christ...i didn't even hear about that! Talk about a sham...i'm trying so hard to give our President a chance but my opinion of him is on a steep downward spiral.

The reason the stimulus will not work is two fold. 1) the current bill as it is right now (the one that passed the house) is a sham, it's not a stimulus bill. It's a democratic pork barrel- funding for STDs, Global Warming, money for AMTRAK....maybe those are noble but i'm not quite sure how any of them relate to stimulating the economy. Oh...they dont... 2) people will do 3 things with any money we see from the government 1- pay bills/debt, 2- save it, or 3- buy foreign products (TVs, video game consuls, etc., etc.) so the only thing we may be stimulating is China... Also...Raz...couldn't agree with you more, bro. Very well said.

Commercials will probably take him - thats about as good as you're gonna get today. He may be able to work his way into NYC via Transcare eventually.

You're only option is to get into an original course. You'll have the same state issued number but the state grace period is 1 year . If you expire, you have up to 1 year in which you can take a refresher, after that time you have to take an original. The CME program is only for currently certified EMTs (B,I,CC,P) who are currently practicing in an agency and the agency they belong to is a part of the CME refresher program (i assume most are these days). Complete your CME packet by going to the required and elective classes, get a CPR card and get a CIC to sign off on the required skills (airway and patient assessments i think, cant remember), send it to the state 45 days prior to your expiration and you will get a new card mailed to you. As for the money - it is what it is. If you're fire department is registered with the state as a BLS provider you can pay upfront, submit the receipt to your corps/department and all they have to do is file the necessary paperwork and the state should send them a check. If thats not the case then you'll be paying in full (obviously).

I assume most people get the Journal News. I happened to take a glance at the front page about 10 minutes ago to see a picture of an MVA that occurred during the storm yesterday. Quite frankly, it looked a bit shocking and the caption read something to the effect of "Ambulance workers walk the driver of the a truck...to the ambulance." The only point i want to make is that we should all be 1) trying to do the right thing and 2) be acutely aware that the public is watching.

I'm pretty sure paypal is the most robust/mature check out service out there. There may just be an aversion to using credit card numbers online...many are still uncomfortable doing so.

The chains definitely help in the snow but result in a very annoying ride.

The two photos are a bit confusing, but i stand somewhat corrected. Glad to see that the guy wasn't completely walked to the ambulance. Still have to be careful in this ultra connected world.

Forget the ambulance. If a backboard and collar were not indicated (i would have given him the KED and backboard from what i see in the picture) we have this novel thing called a stretcher which could have been wheeled over or you could even utilize the stair-chair as a wheel chair and then transfer to the stretcher. My intention is not to quarterback this. The point is, if this is the treatment that the public sees us giving (because really, this photographers camera lens is the public eye if you will) what the hell is the point? Might as well not even bother coming out on calls or even having ambulance service at all. Thats really the problem i have.
