  1. Pretty nice truck. I'm sure she'll be rip roaring with all the fire load up there Do me a favor LB, send me a text i lost your digits!
  2. NY refresher isn't 2 weekends, thats for sure. It's usually a summer semester course (in the college setting that is, like @ WCC). The way it usually works is you take a large written exam and a practical skills test which determines where you need to refresh and hone your skills. After you remediate, you take the practical skills exam and then the state written and assuming you pass, viola your a tech. If you don't want to go through that then i would suggest finding out what CMEs count towards your NY cert (it seems your DE and National registry are not an issue here, just NY). Probably best contacting either your home agency in NY or the DOH.
  3. Nothing a little cricoid pressure couldn't solve.
  4. It works...so....why can't we have this on Westchester ALS buses/fly cars?
  5. http://wcbstv.com/breakingnewsalerts/nyc.b...r.2.921808.html Not good...
  6. They are hard to find, but do exist. My recommendation is not to waste your time or money. When i worked in Putnam it was nearly impossible to get in touch with 911 from a portable, let alone the truck radio. Even for just listening to what was going on it was worthless. I hated mine so much i gave it away for free.
  7. The driver was transported after spending the night at home? Can anyone offer some further insight?
  8. Hope the officer is doing well and he recovers quickly. This is nothing new to the City, it can get pretty nutty. When i was up there i unfortunately i did a number of jobs where officers were requesting assistance. One thing about CPPD though, they always had our back - 110%. You called for assistance and they showed up in force and diffused the situation. Even in the hairiest of situations it was a comforting feeling know they had your back.
  9. in my honesty opinion "I" is a total waste of time. Like it was said, if you want to make money and are eager to absorb the knowledge and learn new skills save that money and put it towards Paramedic school. The cost-benefit ratio is much better than with the "I" program. But, ultimately it's up to you and what makes you happy. Best of luck!
  10. FDNY hires off a civil service list, if you're not on the list you're not going to get called. And yes, they work 8 hour tours. Most city hospitals have hiring freezes as far as i have heard from guys down there. University Hospital in Newark hires a lot of per-diems as i understand. I have never heard of a job as a CFR...might help you get a job somewhere, but never heard of being hired as a CFR at an ems agency. Right now, commercials are your best bet.
  11. Thought this was an interesting article: http://www.omaha.com/index.php?u_page=2798...;u_sid=10588900
  12. Commercials are probably always hiring. Everyone else is probably on a hiring freeze.
  13. Got that today, but like they said...no clue about how this will effect EMS, if at all.
  14. I am not advocating perfection. What I am saying is this was not about trying to the right thing or wrong thing this was a conscious choice to drive like a moron and light up in an ambulance.
  15. Respect? You're kidding, right? What about all of us who do the right thing day in and day out? Who don't smoke in the truck, who don't go balls to the wall and put others in unnecessary danger or those of us have enough professionalism to not video tape responses? Where was the ambulance's crew respect for us? Who gives a crap about Fox news? It has nothing to do with them. Lets discuss the REAL issue here for crying out loud! I cant believe some of the responses here...
  16. So i guess it's Fox's fault? Come on...lets not pass the buck. Like i said, this is all of our problem now.
  17. Thats a pretty moronic statement. This is the of virulence that keeps EMS in the arm pit of emergency services. The media could be your worst nightmare or your best friend. The media, in the case of EMS, needs to be used as an education tool for the public. Right now (this incident aside) there isn't a whole lot that is peachy keen in EMS in Westchester. I don't feel sorry for the ambulance crew at all - they were acting like a bunch of yahoos and they got caught. Debate the smoking thing and the stop sign thing all you want - but he was wrong. My biggest issue is that i now have to work extra hard to expunge this crap from my patient's mind the next time i go on shift. Thats why this pisses me off, and it pisses me off even more if he's "been doing it for 26 years." A veteran of 26 years should damn well know better. I could go on, but at this point i think ill hop into my asbestos jumpsuit and bite my tongue as i am sure the flame-throwers are going to be taken out for this one.
  18. If you go back, i'm going back, and it will be Medic 29 heavy (or did it catch on fire?) - critical care BLS baby!
  19. Honestly, i think the County has some larger issues they need to take a look at other than a USAR team. Like, EMS and why ambulances don't get out. But thats a whole different ball game. Honestly, this thing just needs to be left up to the professionals. Like in that tech recuse thread...the career guys seem to have a solid handle on it so let them be the tech rescue team....same thing with a USAR team. It seems like it we would be spending less and getting more.
  20. Red wipes after every pt
  21. I'm pretty sure that the airport equipment is staffed by airport employees...i'm not sure which employees or what it takes to be a part of the crew, but that is my understanding.
  22. It will turn around - but it will turn around when the market says so. What they need to do is let the bad banks fail, period. They did this during the clinton years and it worked out just fine. Let the market correct itself. Spending trillions on bull isn't going to solve a thing. The other thing that needs to happen is we need to vote all the morons out of office - on both sides. Enough of this say one thing but do something totally different. The hottest news today is that our esteemed Speaker of the House appears to be the champion of our interests but has wasted millions in demanding air force aircraft for her flights back home. Personally, everyone in govt should ride commuter with the exception of the Pres/Vice pres and their respective staffs.
  23. Fairview doesn't even touch Arlington, City of Poughkeepsie separates the two so that doesn't make much sense. Well, i think Mark would agree that Fairview residents probably hate Marist students the most... I feel for you guys, hopefully it works out. Best of luck and keep up the good work - always enjoyed backing up Fairview.
  24. From NYDailynews.com http://www.nydailynews.com/news/2009/03/04...ow_respons.html This is going to hurt everyone, essentially crushing the throat of an already dyspneic system (EMS as a whole, state-wide). What are your thoughts?
  25. Type 1 ambulances have the F-Series front end (looks like a pic-up). Type 3 ambulances have an E-Series front end (van type), most ambulances around here are Type 3s with an E-Series front end. As far as gas v. diesel, i really could care less.
