So wait, how many houses did those guys let burn down again?
-
Ok, forget the spin. Direction question: How many more houses are you and the rest of the volunteers going to allow to burn down before you decide to take an honest look inside and fix the problem? If i lived in north stamford and it was my house you let burn down, i would sue until i owned the respective volunteer department and then donate it to the city of stamford.

Not to be a jerk or anything, but these posts are getting really bothersome to read. If you care that much, why don't you just pull this person aside and talk to them about it. I've said this over and over again, this is a personal beef between you and whoever this provider is. I don't really see the point of posting it up here. Frankly, it's getting annoying. It's ironic. You talk about being professional but airing this stuff on EMTBravo doesn't really strike me as all that professional.

Maybe we should lay the blame where it really belongs...in the lap of the volunteer dog and pony show that is run outside of downtown stamford. There the ones letting houses burn down due to their own incompetence. Shut them down, let the city take over. Honestly, how many more people need to loose everything they've worked for?

You are more than welcome to drop all the union talking points you want, i respect that. I just don't buy it....sounds all too similar to the strong arm robbery that occurred in NYC in 1996.

Just another ploy to keep the run numbers up and justify staffing levels or contractual desires moving forward.

Outside career departments ( i know of at least one in Westchester) do send their officer candidates to FDNY FLIPS school. Besides, to be eligible you need 5 years as an FDNY firefighter. That's more experience than probably any volunteer department can offer. As far as the actual content of the class - someone in the know would have to detail that. I'm not a firefighter, but im close friends with a bunch and the father-in-law is an FDNY Lt on a busy truck and i take issue with the tone of the first part of you're comments. I know the father-in-law is anything but a paper pusher, hes a respected fire officer and leader of firefighters...be that on a fire scene, at the fire house or off duty. Nice topic bendel, something that needs to be discussed.

Titrate the narcan @ 0.4mg intervals until his respiratory rate is sufficient. Second lady should get a line as well, maybe a 250 cc bolus to see if that pressure can't come up?

i'm pretty sure the civilian medics at GPD are represented by the CSEA...
-
Shut down the volunteers and take whatever the city gives them monetarily and put it back into SFRD to fill out companies outside the city proper.
-
The same thing happens to me every week at work, only takeout medic and insert ER nurse. Wouldn't it be more effective to grab whoever it is you're talking about to give them a pat on the back or tell them they should shape up?

There is (or was) a civil list for EMTs and Paramedics...thats how Town of Mamaroneck medics and greenburgh medics & EMTs get hired (bunch of friends of mine recently got letters from greenburgh off of this list) ....the application is not on the county website anymore, but it was there. It was all based on experience - you had to send in a resume with all you're relevant training and credentials and the county gave you a score and list # based on that.

Ultimately ALS is the standard of care...or it should be in my opinion. Having a paramedic up-triaging or riding something in because vital signs are borderline isn't a bad thing. Just because abdominal pain, sicks and stabbings go BLS in NYC (i say NYC because so much goes BLS) doesn't mean that that is in the patient's best interest/proper thing to do.

Is the first scale drill in which the new radio system was utilized? Any thoughts on how it preformed?
-
You need to be canvased off the Westchester County EMS civil service list.

Couldn't have said it better!

Nothing wrong with using the minimum amount of force to gain voluntary compliance. Hope the crew is ok otherwise, stay safe.

Sounds like the baby bus, ground transport for sick kids coming down to WMC. It's a transcare bus with a medic, emt and whatever hospital personnel they need.

There is no FDNY EMS 23rd battalion in either the Bronx North or South....it's in Staten Island. The 27th Battalion has the new EMS vehicles..
-
They are in the Bronx, got inspected by one the other night....they've been in the bronx for a few months now

The bottom line dude is that it's going to come up in any interview you conduct with the FDNY, just be prepared to field the questions in a thoughtful, intelligent and mature manor. Avoid sob stories, they don't care. I would seriously consider making up those packets i mentioned and handing them to anyone you have an interview with (especially the psychologists). It will display honesty and maturity, at the very least. Good luck.

Dude, thats how the people that will be looking at you're application will be. You have to understand that. No one here can tell you if you are going to make it through or not. You definitely don't need to outline you're past here, but just know that these things are going to be considered, especially the incident regarding the summons and verbal altercation with the police officer. The best anyone can tell you is to be honest about it, don't pass the buck. You made you're choices and now you have to live with them. We are all human and naturally flawed. That said, don't sweat it. If you get through great, if not maybe you can try again or broaden you're horizons. FDNY EMS is not, after all, the be-all-end-all EMS agency.

The altercation with police is going to throw a red flag, for sure. Not sure how lenient FDNY EMS is, but times are changing and less and less is being tolerated. They will probably question you in regards to the termination as well as the car accidents. I know the NYPD does. Anything is fair game for these guys, they will know you better than you know yourself. My advice is to try and beat them at their own game. Dunno where you are in the process but i would have all of those explanations/depositions and what have you copied into packets. If you need to go to the investigator, psych etc. give them each a packet when you go for said interview. Being upfront and forward is going to only help you. Thats the advice i got from a close friend for the NYPD process. Again, i don't know how FDNY handles these things, so the above may or may not be totally applicable. I think generally, though, you need to make sure you have all your "t's" crossed and you're "I's" dotted and make sure you stay out of trouble.

MDTs are a good idea. It would probably solve the capacity issue with the radio system/prevent clogging on higher profile jobs. All you have to do is acknowledge the run, the rest is a matter of tapping a screen or entering a disposition and sending it to the dispatcher. Problem is i think MDTs run on a different radio system, i think something like 800 Mhz...so someone would need to build out the radio system for that, design the software, purchase the computers, roll out everyone, etc. It's the way to go, but we never do things the right way anyhow.

There is a pilot program that is getting ready to take off here as far as transmitting 12 leads, i know some units do it in the city as well. Making a note is great, but every time i've been involved in said situation the ER has never bothered to get anything ready. It's not until you pass the 12 lead under the nose of the ER physician that he jumps out of his chair and franticly starts making phone calls...
