We were just told we will be getting a new KME in a year or so at our house from the guys down at shops

Good job to the Sheriff and school stage! Do school nurses not have the basic equipment to sustain life. It's been along time since I have been in high school but sounds like they need basic equipment
-
Sounds very familar

Try Cadpage to use along with the I'm responding system a nice partnering of technologies.

This boat or any jet boat for that matter has ability to turn and stay stationary unlike any other prop type boat I have ever used! And from what I have been told stays stationary even while operating the master stream.
-
I have gone in the Long Island on a personal jet boat and not a FD model. They are small boats and like any other small boat can handle the sea but be prepared to take a beating. We went out in 10' swells, handled fine and had a blast but had to hold on.

It would be nice if the proceeds go to worthy groups as you have mentioned but the movie looks kick @ss and will go see it anyhow

New Fairfield CT, Squantz Engine Co. Has one and loves it. Here is the link to a good write up on the manufacturer and detailed pic of the boat. http://www.nfvfd.org/9013/

Here is a link that is done by the International Association of Emergency Management http://www.iaem.com/certification/generalinfo/cem.htm. When I worked at NYC OEM a lot of people were going through this certification as it is top notch and will set you apart. Good luck

@ Lad45der you use a vacuum to flatten the hose? As I'm sure it works, is this done for the parades

To answer a lot of the comments made about Patterson Fire, as I was the one who took the time to search for the grant, do the research, write the grant and then submit it we just got word of our award several days ago. As the NY Lottery says "you can't win if you don't play" One of the requirements was to be in the surrounding communities and counties. The other requirement was not to just submit a wish list of useless equipment that would just be cool to have and never use. Instead we submitted the grant with a plan. We are aggressively working to improve the towns water supply. By receiving these fund we would look to make much needed repairs to drafting hydrants that are out of service and install up to 21 drafting Hydrants in existing sources over the next couple of years. This plan also consists of an ordinance that is scheduled to go infront of the town that would require new residential and commercial development to install either drafting hydrants in near by water sources or to install inground tanks. This is all being done to provide the citizens of our town with a sufficient network of drafting Hydrants and as water supply is 40% of a towns ISO rating, we will be ready for them when the time comes to contact the in the far future.

I would have to disagree with FF's having EMT certification! I'm a FF/former EMT as I agree that we should be well trained, the basic training should be CFR w/ AED. This is sufficient for FF's to begin treatment on scene on one of us or a civilian prior to the arrival or transport by EMS to the hospital. As discussed in another tread the IC should have an ambulance on scene for all working fires

40th Senate District’s 1st Annual Law Enforcement and Fire Prevention Roundtable Summit Meeting Friday, January 6, 2012, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. This meeting will take place at The Paladin Center which is located at 39 Seminary Hill Road, Carmel, NY 10512. The primary goal of the Law Enforcement and Fire Prevention Roundtable Summit Meeting is to introduce the 40th Senate District's law enforcement and fire prevention community to Jerome M. Hauer, the Governor's appointee for Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security. Secondly, Senator Ball would like to provide a forum for each county and local municipality in the 40th Senate District to share feedback concerning the training and development needs of their police and fire departments and to discuss their current emergency preparedness plans. Our tentative agenda is as follows: 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM – Introduction of Jerome M. Hauer, Governor Andrew Cuomo's appointee for Commissioner of the Department of Homeland Security and roundtable discussion on the training and development needs of the 40th Senate District’s law enforcement and fire prevention community and to discuss emergency preparedness plans. 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM – Tour of the Paladin Center (training center for law enforcement and fire first responders) to observe first responder training and development programs. 4:00 PM Meeting is adjourned.

It was a great turnout today and look forward to the follow up sessions. The possibilities of this center are enormous and the facility looks great.

they just received a grant from new york DHS for $1 million to improve training 4 police fire and ems. it's a private firm, but I was looking for more info on the round table .

Just found this anyone going or know more about this?

Isn't this the reason we have county coordinators? They should be the ones assisting the IC. "Hey Chief we have multiple units operating on different frequencies". The IC is way to busy working and it is the job of the coordinators to handle these things.....

These products are good for visibility, but they need to charge with light for I believe 5 minutes so keep the compartment lights on while responding

Alot of good points were brought up in this tread. Responding in a personal vehicle isnt one of them. The IC at the AFA should use there judgement when making the run into a drill as active and as much as I like to train and enjoy teaching others on runs like this, I like to eat and sleep with my family. So alot of aspects need to come into play when making this call to turn a run into a training session. We all know the members that are interested in learning and the ones that are not. And we all have the guys that need to learn rig placement and positioning etc etc. Any how stay safe train hard and have a safe Holiday!

Nice looking

I think its very simple unless you want to see your department run like your high school student council with elected positions of dept. clown, nicest blue light package, again its simple b/c your life depends on it. Regardless if no dept. standards exist for the officers, past experience, training, knowledge of district should all be taken into consideration. But your election is limited when you don't have the right membership stepping up to the plate. Having military experience is great, however, one should still have FF 1, ICS, various tactical and building construction familiarization. Just b/c one person can lead a group of FF's, if he doesn't know were to lead his crew to he is useless. The only way to get qualified people into the ranks is to change the dept. policy and establish a training program that will allow new and existing members to to get the necessary training to become officers is so desired . FF's to be worth there weight should be certified in either interior/ exterior operations. Building construction, various fire fighting tactical and operation classes. As a firstline officer one should have one level higher of those to be supervised. ICS training, specific tactical training truck, tanker or engine ops. And once the training program has been in place for a couple of years FF 2, instructor courses etc. Can be added. I think the most important thing is to establish a training program that will standardize your FF's the first year, then continue with those classes and begin to offer the officer level training. As your years of training increase so will your ranks of qualified members for potential officers. If you don't have a good foundation, what you try to build on top of it will be worthless.
