We appreciate this confidence and look forward to working with them for many years to come.
  2. It's been a hectic past couple of months for us, leaving little time to post our recent deliveries, but over the next week or so we'll be trying to get more up. The Archville Fire Department, established in 1909 in the Scarborough Fire District, recently took delivery of their new Chief’s vehicle, a 2012 Ford Expedition designated 2631, from Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury CT. Lighting is comprised of Whelen components including a Freedom lightbar, an eight head Dominator in the front grille, split red/white IONs on the Setina pushbumper and red/white M4s at each corner for side protection. Vertex HideAways in the brake & reverse lights, an eight head Traffic Advisor above the cargo door and red/white IONs on the cargo door and in the upper cargo window complete the system which is controlled by A CenCom Sapphire system. The center console is a Havis vehicle specific which contains the department and County radios, CenCom control head, dual power outlets and side mount armrest. Additional LED lighting was added inside the cargo compartment to aid in equipment retrieval at night, with PAR36 LEDs added under the rear of the truck for supplemental reverse and ground lighting. The unique black reflective striping, gold leaf and white reflective lettering and door seal framing a photo of their horse drawn engine combine to provide their exterior graphics. We enjoyed working with the Archville FD on their new Chief’s truck and appreciate their confidence in us. We look forward to additional projects with them in the future.
  3. To all those reading this thread, the banter has been going on since 2002 when a parade invitation was lost in the mail. Mill Plain started last and it has become a highlight of Mill Plain and Brewster to see what will happen. When you look at the relationship between the two it started in 1945 when Mill Plain was born, some 85 years after Brewster was started. A brotherhood was formed that still remains today. Eight years ago Mill Plain and Miry Brook started coverinng for Brewster and Mahopac Falls so that they and their families could enjoy themselves at the convention in Lake George and the interaction between them is amazing. We have become one department spanning two states enjoying each other stories and families. Also the residents of Southeast and visitors applaud like crazy when they come through. This is written by the past chief of Mill Plain who helped start it and who is now a captain and vice president of Brewster. As for mill plain and all the rest when stuff happens they are top notch organizations and i am proud to have been a member of three out of four of them so heres to brewsterfalls ,mill plain and miry brook, some of us salute you

  5. With the new Interceptors just beginning to appear in our area, and the interest they seem to be genearting, we thought we'd share this recent delivery. Specialty Warning Systems in Danbury CT recently delivered its first new Ford Interceptor Utility to the Wilton CT Police Department. The result of many months of transition planning with the WPD, the new Utility, assigned as the patrol sergeant’s vehicle, is the first of five Interceptors for Wilton, the remaining four being sedans, which are currently underway. The warning system is all Whelen LED incorporating a Liberty WeCan lightbar, Vertex HideAways in the sides of the headlight housings, four HideAway LEDs in the rear taillights, 400 series and IONs on the Setina pushbumper and a six head Dominator in the rear window. We have enjoyed a long and co-operative working relationship with the Wilton PD, appreciate their confidence in us and look forward to providing their service and new vehicle conversions for many years to come.

  12. The Croton Falls Fire Department, in Westchester County New York, recently took delivery of their new Chief's truck, a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. As with many of today's first response vehicles, much time was invested to assure it could fulfill a multitude of capabilities. One specific need was sufficient rear facing warning as the CFFD regularly responds up to I-684, a limited access, multi lane highway occupied by high speed, high volume traffic. As Chief's vehicles are typically the initial personnel to arrive on scene, and distracted, impatient drivers present a real danger to first and subsequent responders, the need for adequate rear warning was paramount. As with most of the vehicles upfitted by SWS today, 2071 incorporates a 100% LED based warning system. Front facing components include a Whelen FX Freedom lightbar, two six head Dominators and two LINZ6s in the front grille with a Sound Off headlight flasher. Side warning is provided by M4s on each outer bumper corner, a four head Dominator Plus in each rear side cargo window and a Sound Off Intersector under each side view mirror. The rear is protected by a Whelen Outer Edge, Outer Pillar Edge, eight head Dominator Plus in the upper cargo window, two split color M4s on the cargo door and four LAW HideAway LEDs in the taillights. A CenCom system with a HOWLER low frequency siren system complete the overall warning package. A custom built Command / Storage cabinet was installed in the rear cargo compartment which incorporates communications equipment, space for turnout & SCBA, four open storage compartments, adjustable shelving and slide out command drawer with marking whiteboard and clear overlay. Two additional four head Dominator Plus bars were installed on the sides of the cabinet to provide additional rear warning when the cargo door is raised. Rear vehicle area lighting for nighttime operations is provided by three LED compartment lights. Two dual lamp floods under the rear of the truck supplement the area work lights while also operating in conjunction with the OEM reverse lights. The 24 inch Havis console contains the department and County radios, CenCom control head, storage box, side mounted armrests, dual cup holder, 12V power outlets and HOWLER controls. Vehicle graphics include white reflective striping, red safety chevron on the rear door, along with gold leaf lettering and department artwork on each front passenger door. Specialty Warning Systems extends it's thanks to the Croton Falls Fire Department for the confidence placed in us to provide their new Chief's vehicle. We look forward to working with them on future projects. YouTube video link............http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABtaENSy9fw While we are appreciative and thankful for the hectic workload we have been working through since the move to our larger, more efficient facility last Thanksgiving, it has limited the amount of time we've had available to keep current projects posted on EMTBRAVO as they're completed. Most readers are probably well aware of the vehicles we deliver to fellow departments in Westchester, Putnam and Duchess Counties as they are delivered, but may not have had an opportunity to see vehicles that have been completed for other areas. We'll be starting to get these up for readers' interest and feedback in the near future. If NYS vehicles are of interest, we would be happy to post the most recent ones as well. Please let us know what you would like to see in the coming weeks and we'll be happy to get them up for you...........Thanks for everyone's support and interest !....... SWS

(This Dodge Ram will continue it's service life following an upgrade, refit and reassignment to the Fire Police) The audible & visual warning system is 100% Whelen, incorporating (in the front) an FX Freedom lightbar, two eight head red / white Dominators in the grille, M4 Super LEDs on each outer front corner and a headlight flasher. A 295HFS4 controller with secondary amplifier provides dual siren tones to two 100 watt speakers behind the grille. Six LINZ6 LEDs were installed on the side running boards, while another eight head Dominator in the rear cargo window, blue/amber TIR6s on either side of the OEM license plate, red LAW HideAways in the taillights and blue LAW HideAways in the reverse lights complete the rear warning. Two TIR3s, installed in the lower cargo compartment, provide additional rear facing warning when the cargo door is in the raised position, effectively blocking the Freedom bar. Their control is by way of a single switch that simultaneously deactivates the Dominator, protecting the vision of operators working in the rear of the vehicle. The center console is a 30 inch Havis model, housing the department and fire police radios, Whelen control head, Uniden scanner, dual cup holders, power outlets, driver and passenger side armrests and nine inch storage compartment. The custom rear Command / Storage Cabinet includes a command drawer with a marking whiteboard and clear overlay, hanging file and storage drawers, open storage for turnout and SCBA and three compartments for extinguishers and similar smaller equipment. Four Super LED compartment lights were installed on the cargo door and inside the cargo compartment, providing supplemental lighting at night. The graphics package incorporates white reflective safety striping, gold leaf lettering and accents and a red / gold leaf maltese cross. 24. The systems that allow for keys to be removed while the vehicle remains running are commonly referred to as ignition override systems. These systems require they "pggyback" or are spliced into the OEM ignition cirucits of the vehicle. With ther ever increasing complexity of the OEM computer, and the reliance of all the OEM systems on these computers, we believe the greater the possibility of potential conflicts that could result in poor performance, error codes or malfunctions. The Tremco system is indeed the one I was referring to. I'm not sure why the one particular PD ultimately stopped using them but I can say that several years ago, one of the components that works with the system experienced some ongoing issues with longevity. This issue has since been rectified by way of a new manufacturer and heavier duty construction. Since this time, we have had no problems with them at all. They integrate very simply with the OEM system(s), require no splicing, cutting or invasion of any OEM wiring and work very well. They are in use accross the country, providing excellent security for a wide variety of vehicles. While the Tremco system is one method of vehicle security, I'm sure there may be others that could be explored. This just happens to be the one we evaluated and found to meet the overall requirements for our customers, were simple to install, cost effective and reliable. When we researched the various alternatives, we found the number of emergency vehicles that had been stolen in prior years, was much greater than we had heard of......a trend which seems to be increasing. My only purpose in bringing this up is for providers to recognize this as an increasing problem and to raise the concept of a security system as a means by which valuable equipment and vehicles may be secured and the potential for another death, possibly be averted. 25. Just an FYI to an unfortunate situation, wherever the blame may ultimately fall........Vehicle Anti Theft Systems are readily available for just this type of sad circumstance. More and more emergency service vehicles (police, fire and EMS) are being targeted for theft, with sadly unfortunate results. We've done these anti theft systems in vehicles for several of the emergency services with the expectation of preventing this type of situation. Simple to install and effective, they also help meet Homeland Security recommendations. They may save another life someday.
