  1. Came across this video on the weather channel http://bcove.me/lsnjf2st Jersey City, NJ large fire spanning 2 apartment buildings. Video from helicopter
  2. New Rochelle PD's Harbor unit can provide divers as well as NRPD also having a seperate SCUBA team. They shoud be more then capiable of covering the Mamaroneck area.
  3. The idea of fining them because of false alarms is "great" in theory but where does the money go? I know that in some fire districts if the property or business owner gets a fine, the fire department does not see the money, the town does. That fine does not go to cover the costs of maintenance to the vehicles, fuel, etc. rather it goes into the towns pocket. As per the article responding to the false alarms "...wastes diesel fuel and increases wear and tear on the department’s equipment." Is the department going to receive the moneys from the fine to aid in covering those expenses and reduce the tax burden on the rest of the community? The biggest question that I have is what are they considering a false alarm? Like many others have already said on her, burnt popcorn is not a false alarm. What do you do when you have a person who has Alzheimer’s and is living at home with their spouse who is capable of taking care of their needs and said person puts a slipper in the toaster and turns the toaster on? This is not a false alarm. Do you start to fine them as well because you go there every few weeks for similar such thing? The end result of that would be, in my opinion, that they would pull out the central station system. While that would eliminate some calls for us, aren’t we endangering the life for the 2 people living in that house as well as putting ourselves into a position that we are going to be responding to a structure fire, putting ourselves into a more dangerous position, instead of a simple slipper in the toaster that can be taken care of with a water can or dry chem?
  4. I remembered that their is a place onVirginia Rd in North White Plains that always has what look like used patrol cars. A quick google search came up with North White Auto Sales There info is 43 Virginia Rd, White Plains, NY. 914-997-8948
  5. not sure how good they are but SWSP.com also sells used police cars. They say that they recondition them, but guess that can mean just about anything. Also as someone else mentioned, auctionsinternational.com casually will have used police as well as vehicles from other municipality fleets. Prices are usually fair. Have bid on a few things but yet to be the lucky winner.
  6. I recieved this in my email yesterday and felt it was appropriate to post here ******************************************************************************************** Dear Briarcliff Community, The loss of John Mezzatesta cannot be measured. 8. It was delivered as shown so we still need to have it stripped and lettered. Should be done in the coming weeks. Once it is all done, the page will be redone with the updated photos.
  9. Sorry for the delay in getting some more pics up... My camera died on me recently so this is the best I can do for now (about 41 pics) http://www.millwoodfire.org/Apparatus/L52/
  10. how can the DA's office let a piece of s*** like this guy go AGAIN!! it seems like they have no interest in justice. If the avg person makes a "mistake" we are crucified, but scum bag career criminals like this seem to just get to walk. Maybe its just me, but where is the justice for the people that he has wronged? and how many 'chances' do we give people?
  11. A few people on here have said that by running the lights and other equipment, it will shorten the life of the batteries. Does anyone know this for a fact, or is it speculation? Also, with LED lights pulling low drain on the system (not sure about radios and other) I would think the batterys should be able to handle it for a fair amount of time, and once they do start to loose there charge, wouldn't the Gas engine turn on to supplement if needed? With some departments the chiefs cars get more miles put on them as "daily Drivers" then emergency vehicles, or that is what I see. For those depts, I would expect it to be a big cost savings. The ford escape for example is only 6k more RETAIL than the gas only version. You would pay that off in the first year or 2 of the vehicles life in gas savings I would think. For the agencies that have gone with some hybrids, Did the agency or town using them promote them to the taxpayers in any way, and if so, what was the reaction?
  12. With the rising gas prices I was wondering if any departments are using or looking into hybrid vehicles for their chief's cars or utilities. With the new hybrids being in both sedan and SUV models, I would think that there is a big cost savings to a department. In general just better for the environment. Heck, it couldn't hurt on your public image either. What would anyone see as a down side to using one? Anyones thoughts on the matter???
  13. Millwood recently put into service the Rescue 42 system and we really like it. Every system has it pros and cons and not 1 system is best for all departments. Rescue 42 provided us with what we were looking for / needed / wanted. One of the things that I liked about Rescue 42's system is the versatility it gave us. 1 set of tools for extrication stabilization, as well as other rescue applications, such as the tri-pod and aframe applications. with a working load of 18000 pounds, we didn't see many applications (in our district) where this would be a limit to us. They are very light weight compared to other products that I looked at and over all, very simple to use and set up.
  14. Personaly, I prefer to shoot in RAW. Not that there is any real problem shooting in JPEG, more a personal pref., but I generaly do not shoot fire scene. After editing anything I want to, I will save it as JPEG on my computer BUT keep the orignal RAW file as well. As for a fire scean, I dont see any reason to shoot one over the other (again, perfer raw), I think its more a matter of personal preferences and what you are confertable doing.
  15. Jonesy368 I sent you a private message regarding your problem. Will be more than happy to help.
