I believe the New Haven-Tweed Airport in New Haven once had NHFD firefighters who were stationed at the airport, however, they were replaced by cross-trained employees due to budget problems.
-
West Haven actually has 3 fire districts: Allingtown (where UNH is), West Haven & West Shore. Each is a combination department. In Allingtown, the volunteer company runs an engine out of their station and the career firefighters run a tower ladder, an engine and a rescue out of their station. I'm not too sure how the other 2 districts operate.

Just as a heads up to any one that is interested, today I noticed there is a wrecker that looks similar to this sitting outside of Brookfield's in Elmsford. It looks like it is a former Port Authority truck.

You can take both tests at the same time, however, I believe the White Plains test uses a differnt set of questions than the County test. Usually there are a total of 90 questions in the test book but each test only uses 60 of them. So if you register for both exams, you probably will have to answer all 90 questions. Also, dont forget to put both test codes on your answer sheets.

Aside from the 4 cities listed the following departments employ career firefighters and hire off of the county list: Eastchester Scarsdale Greenville Hartsdale Fairview Pelham Pelham Manor Rye Rye Brook Peekskill Port Chester Harrison Lake Mohegan Mamaroneck Town Sorry if I missed any.

I believe that is the Greenville in Orange County. Greenville does not currently have anything on order that I know of.

I believe Pace University is currently conducting a study on regionalizing several career/combination departments in Southern Westchester. I think it makes sense to combine your resources with other departments this way they can pick up where you lack and vice versa. Another benefit is that it would cut down on the duplication of services & equipment. For example it would cut back on two departments that border each other from buying the same equipment and apparatus (ex: 2 identical pieces of apparatus stationed only a few miles apart when they could save money by utilizing their neighbors resources.). Overall, I think it would save money while increasing the level of fire protection being provided for your tax payers.

I went up and applied on Friday. As of around 1PM on Friday they had 600 people signed up. I go to school right down the road and my academic advisor is the retired chief of NHFD. As stated before, there is a big push to hire minorities in New Haven. In fact the results of the last officers exam were thrown out because there were no minorities in the op of the list. A group of guys who took the test sued the city to have the test reinstated and lost.
-
I noticed that too. Actually, one guy in my room raised his hand to ask the proctor about it so he ended up not being able to finish in the 10 minutes. I'm sure there will be plenty of people complaining about that especially if they don't get the grade they were expecting.
