And people wonder why I'm so neurotic about locking my vehicle.

No "bull pen" after the parade? A lot of locals go to Pawling Tavern or McGrath's. I personally like McGraths. Good eats.

I have posted numerous IAs in the past. It is worth noting that on a few occasions I received updated info via PM from people and was unable to change the post after a certain time had elapse. FWIW.

I was just about to ask if the park being closed was going to effect the parade route and location of the carnival but I just noticed this on the town website: Thank god. 2 Weeks of no park due to some stupid asbestos I'm sure has been driving some area residents a bit up the wall.

Mix the Dutchess county system with a trunk system and you have my image of nirvana. Westchester county is such a hodge podge of frequencies, operating procedures, agencies,m etc it will never operate properly/efficiently. Is there such a thing as a trunking pager?

Shouldn't a rehab vehicle be something like a bus or other vehicle that you can put multiple people in for warming and cooling? OR do they plan to carry mash like tents with HVAC units for environmental control?

Two past incidents come to mind when I read this. When I was about 11 or so, I was taking a swim class at a local pool. We were taking turns jumping off the springboard into the deep end of the pool. A local kid I knew went in before me. I had a weird feeling when he went in so I walked out to the end of the diving board and looked down. He was motionless at the bottom of the pool in about 10 feet of water, making no effort to come back up like you would expect. I jumped in and pulled him up as the lifeguards were diving in after us. He was fine but it could have been a lot different. Second incident was when I was maybe 18 or so and was at the local watering hole (Sprout Brook - literally a hole) with my family. My kid brother was in the shallow end standing there with me in about 1-2 feet of water. One second I look at him and he's fine, next second I look at him and he's sideways in the water with his airway submerged, barely flailing but trying to get up. Fish out of water (but a weak fish) comes to mind. I grabbed him and stood him up - again fine, thankfully. But all it takes is a few seconds..... We should do an experiment and see how much energy arcs off a "person" when we shock them with a defib. I'm willing to bet you won't find much stray energy. Stand up. Your shoes alone will likely insulate you from any issues. New CPR guidelines will likely involve people doing CPR continuous, even when pushing the shock button. Food for thought.

If you'll be out in Queens you can look into LIJ (Long Island Jewish) Health or New York Hospital- Queens - both operate 911 units in NYC and also have their own transport units IIRC. I dunno if FDNY is hiring at present, but I think you'd be disappointed working for FDNY after working in Houston. I won't question your decision to move to NY, but if you have the ability, I'd say stay in Texas. The cost of living up here is WAY more than it is in TX and I don't think the pay increase for you (more than 50% if you work one of the voluntary hospitals) will make up for the increased expenses. (Plus we get this white crap called snow a lot that can be annoying for people not used to it ).

Might it be something for the DMAT?

BUMP. Anyone got a list of who is attending?

A few years ago (5 or 6 maybe, I forget) I was watching the Lake Carmel Fireworks display with the family. First few shells went up then a whole bunch - like the finale, only very early. The show continued and ended.....no finale at the end. Found out later the finale got triggered either accidentally or by another shell and that there were a few injuries. All it takes is one errant spark.

firedude: In your second picture, the ambulance....is that a MEMS bus or something else? Never seen it before.

One the battery is disconnected, what it the likelihood of an accidental deployment?

Drove by that lace in February when I was out in PA for a mini-vacay. HUGE place. Fire Apparatus is just the tip of their manufacturing/maintenance iceburg.

Did you ask google?

So long Chuck, may you rest peacefully. Knew him as an associate member of PCVAC and PFD. I think he was even in the first CPR class I ever took.

Not until August.

My favorite is when they say they go lights and sirens because "it's our policy when there is a patient in the back". Uhm...okay. Guess what. Your policy is against the law.

Dear Hard Rock, Thanks for the one day notice! Love the "civil servants".

Just an FYI, Mohegan was assigned just shy of 2700 jobs last year.

We recently had this discussion on a Laguardia CC facebook thread. Think of it like the spinal immobilization protocol.....if there is any doubt, work it. I'm a proponent of using the monitor to confirm asystole in three leads when doing any sort of declaration in the field (this of course being in the case of person being found down and not initiating efforts). For the case of field termination (when CPR has been started and you are looking to STOP cpr), the decision MUST be made in consult with Medical Control and I believe ONLY ALS can terminate efforts. It makes sense that circulatory access (IV or IO) should be established and advanced/alternative airway (intubation, king, combitube, LMA) be in place and confirmed, plus rounds of meds given. A lot of people believe that if there is ANY sort of electrical activity you should transport regardless, but IMHO even if there is electrical activity, but no mechanical activity, termination could still be considered, especially if there has been no signs of life for the better part of more than 20 minutes. Statistically the person just won't recover, and if they do, quality of life will be greatly diminished if not non-existent.
