  1. Thats the main reason some ambulance corps are seperating (at least on paper). Mohegan is a good example. While they are still a part of the fire association, being a seperate entity, they now have the ability use third party billing. I was under the impression that there was a movement in state legislature to allow fire departments to bill for certain services, including EMS runs. Anyone have further information?
  2. Very carefully I'd imagine. Horses can get very frightened especially when fire is involved. I'd imagine the best first line rescue would be to just opoen up the pens and let them run out. This of course brings safety to question however as there is no doubt the chance of having someone get trampled by a stampeding horse.
  3. Oops. Forgot you work there. Yeah, when I was a member, the rig was always busier than the flycar. The medic on the flycar used to just hole up in the bunk room and maybe we'd see them once or twice a day. I have to hand it to them ,they had a good "quality" of call volume, but do they really do any many as PCVAC and Mohegan?
  4. Any word on who the property owner was? (Email me if you don't want to post it, I work in the area and am curious). Also, was there anything in the barn? Looking at the doors and knowing the area, I hope it wasn't used as a garage for classic cars. It's break my heart.
  5. For as long as I can remember that was always a desolate dune good for riding Quads. Thats about it. I can't imagine it having been a drvie in movie theater as it's not quite flat and shows no signs of ever having been.
  6. I was beginning to think they were doing just that when they introduced the Narcotics Sargeant and her team. That is, until they went BOOM. ESU portrayal would be nice. Remember "True Blue" (I think that was what it was called. They had the monster Rescue style ESU truck with the retractable blast shield in the front.
  7. Could you elaborate?
  8. alsfirefighter: keep in mind also that OVAC is actually two different agencies. The ambulances are OVAC, the flycars are "TriCommunity Flycar". I'll have to ask Neil what thier call volume combined and uncombined was last year for comparison.
  9. I don't think I'll ever forget casualty #0001 of 9/11. There is already talk about miracles being attributed to Father Mike.
  10. Somers on the Sound?
  11. Remembering back? Ain't you a bit young to be remembering back? Now Charlie O'Connor gets permission to remember back, as he told us about when Northern Westchester was just the old red north building. Would I love to see pictures of those. But back to Drive Ins.....there use to be one in the Bronx somewhere. I remember when I was a kid still living in "The Vern" seeing a double feature that included "The Black Hole" which according to IMDB was 1979.
  12. Hmmm. Says they are expanding thier 911 operations in Westchester. Wonder to where?
  13. It's an American College of Emergency Physicians thing. Not sure when it started but you can find more info on
  14. Anyone have any more information about this? Call was on Wednesday, I'd say about 2-3pm or so. I was working the other side of the county and heard the call go out. I would have taken notes but I was a bit busy myself that day. Call went out for an MVA at the construction zone near the FDR Park entrance northbound Taconic State Parkway. Update reports pedestrian struck. 34Medics on the scene report best access is from the FDR onramp. 1-2 minutes later they report CPR in progress. FD on scene later calls for second bus to the scene for patient in shock. I have nothing further. There is no information that I can find in the paper or news12.
  15. What? No "hose" jokes?
  16. Way back when, Empress was called the Evil Empire. My how times have changed.
  17. You best bring back some pictures. :->
  18. Okay, again not being in the fire service, define evolution for me as it applies to the drill.
  19. Westchester EMS Council Awards Dinner is tommorrow night.
  20. Not being n the fire service, I'm not familiar, but what is the duty of a chaplain on a fire scene?i
  21. With the speed that thing goes you don't need a siren OR a radio. By the time you hear the siren it's already on top of you, and the car will be able to travel to the reciever of any transmissions the radio puts out before the guy even hits the transmit button.
  22. I think chaplains have a very important role, regardless of the CISD. In a perfect world, I would love to see Chaplains be a PART of the CISD, and in some places, I am sure they are. Any time a CSID team is deployed to a debrief, there are at least two people, a peer and a mental health person. I'm sure that adding a person of faith, especially for departments with a large contingency of members of a particular faith, would be useful.
