I believe a Moose was struck and killed by a car on 684 last year. Not the first time one has been seen this far south. Now it it made it into Manhattan, THEN I'd be impressed.
-
I believe that same medical director was also several people's paramedic instructor.

From a friend via facebook: Thought it was worth passing on to the forums here.

Oh so THAT's where they're expanding. I was wondering where the heck they were gonna put any new structures. Didn't know they had that parcel there. And when I say "building demolished" my first thought was "wait, I just drove by there this past week - they tore down the firehouse??" Good luck. Can't wait to see the new building.

How many 911 trucks do they have on the West Side of the river? Weren't they doing something with Stewart Airport as well? I know they also have/had a truck at some ritzy development in Pike county, PA.

Would love to come but I will be in Rob's favorite getaway destination: Cape May County, NJ.

Yeah, I found out Mike Wik was working Transcare like 3 days before his departure. I was kinda surprised he left HVP. What's the average life span of a manager over there lately? 6 months?
-
It pretty sad that here in Westchester there is no priority system for dispatching ambulances and medics to calls. The fact that I have to go RLS to every call I get dispatched to is kinda ludicrous.
-
Stupid question here, but.....how did you know the laser was on you? Is it overly obvious, like reflecting all over the place, or something else.
-
Not for nothing, but the names have already been officially released by the village. My condolences to the TFD on the loss of two valued contributors to society.

Guy Singer was at the BBQ last night checking people in. Seemed like a nice guy tho he didn't have much time to talk.
-
Congrats to all the EMS award winners at last night's appreciation BBQ at Playland. I'm told it was a small turnout (I dunno as I've never been to one before). Nice night for it tho.

Perhaps Rob can chime in since he works there currently and can tell us if the command trucks have current NYS DOH inspection stickers on em. That would pretty much confirm it for us. I know the listing isn't always up to date (heck, Dutchess' listing used to and still might show the Taconic DDSO Facility in Wassaic as being not only ACTIVE but an ALS agency (were they ever a paramedic agency?)).

Moral of this story: Always come to a complete stop, make eye contact with people at the intersection, make sure it's clear, then proceed with utmost caution. Get there safe! Thankfully everyone was okay. EDIT: God, the idiots who post comments on those LoHud articles never cease to amaze me. For the record, Command Security (the parent organization the run Heritage Hills Security) is indeed a NYS DOH certified first response agency (http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/ems/counties/westchester.htm) and certainly is authorized to use RL&S. Regardless I'm reminded of something a driving instructor once told us: "The right of way is always given, never taken."

From the AP: ONTARIO, N.Y. — Six emergency medical technicians in Wayne County were hospitalized after being exposed to acid fumes following a car crash. Authorities say the EMTs inhaled potentially dangerous vapors from a spilled gallon of muriatic acid after responding to a crash between a car and a truck. The wreck happened in Ontario. The acid is used to clean stone and brick Authorities said the acid had been in the cab of the truck, and that the EMTs complained of a burning sensation in their respiratory systems. Some have already been treated and released. —Copyright 2010 Associated Press

Both Putnam and Dutchess (and I'm sure other counties) have combined dispatch centers. They seem to do pretty well. As with everything, there will of course be growning pains, but IMHO, it's a step in the right direction. Now if only we could centralize the PSAPs and have every emergency unit in the county dispatched from the same center like in Dutchess (well, almost).

Moral: Be careful out there. You never know what could be present in a "normal" MVC.
-
That aren't ambulance agencies? I believe there is one in CT that provides EMTs and Paramedics for areas outside Danbury (specifically Brookfield) called VinTech. Not sure if there are any in NY.
-
Are all the people in the pictures Empress or are there other agencies represented. Reason I ask is I don't recgonize ANYONE. Sheesh.

http://thedailystar.com/localnews/x1627563994/Local-EMTs-alerted-to-drug-shortage Just to clarify. The article really didn't explain the root cause of the problem. I have been told (but admittedly am having difficulty finding a source online) that Hospira, the maker of the Abboject syringes which we all know and love, had a fire at one of it's manufacturing plants that has caused a backlog of orders and a nationwide shortage of the syringes. We've been seeing a moderate supply of the syringes coming in but it is estimated that it could take as long as September for the supply chain to catch up.

In related news, the shortage of other drugs has put a halt to lethal injections in some states: http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2010/07/08/20100708drug-shortage-putting-hold-on-lethal-injections.html

#6 looks like a rather portly individual is weighing down the passenger side. Needz moar shocks!

The thing IS huge. I'll have my cousin send me the pictures he has of it. It's a monster and reportedly just barely fits in the firehouse.

One of the ER nurses I work with recently filed assault charges against a psych/intox patient who spit at/hit her. I believe they are currently serving jail time. As someone who has dealt with combative patients myself, it takes a LOT of restraint to not fight back. At least the law is on our side and has pretty stiff penalties for assaulting EMS and hospital staff.
