Bummer :cry2:

Perhaps as part of the new radio system the county is setting up, there should be a frequency set aside for maydays only? Is that feasable?
-
I believe that is true. Gone are the days when dispatchers shold be saying "Respond to the Jones residence, 252 Bedord Road for a rectal bleed" I'm a bit behind on my JEMS issues, I'll have to catch up and find the article.

They were even better a few years ago. Someone told me that the guy who made em has since moved to Pete's Saloon in Elmsford. Information unverified, but worth a shot.
-
I can find out more from the powers that be, but it was my understanding that it was state law. Maybe it is just county law.

In a world where dispatch actually keeps track of responding units, I would say each unit responding SHOULD call 10-17 so that they can be tracked. If someone doesn't show up where/when they were supposed to, then someone might want to check to see if they are okay. I like the system we're working on where I work. Most signals are given by a data terminal in the trucks, vehicles are tracked at all times, and speeds and status (lights/siren status) are all tracked for approprate use. All this is done on a dedicated radio on a seperate frequency. Heck, even call info is sent to the data terminal so it's not given out over the air (a potential HIPPA violation). When the system is fully online, you'll rarely hear the units talking on the voice channel as everything vital will be done by data terminal.

Interesting. I remember there were at least two EMS "quick attack" units set up for rapid evac of seriously injured individuals. I didn't rrealize FASTeams even existed back then. Thanks for the info. I guess since I was doing EMS staging at the bottom of the hill, I didn't get to see much on the fireground.

Large coolness factor there. What next? A converted bread truck playing rescue? Oh, wait a minute. #-o

Wasn't it lifeline that just recently was involved in a fatal accident in the Bronx? The article I saw said Lifeline Ambulette, but I know thier ambulette division is called "Galaxy".

If you want to complain about the PDs being first line PSAPs, then don't go to the county. It is a New York State law that requires that all 911 calls in the state be recieved initially by a police agency.

Couple of questions: Have there been any cases locally when a FAST team was actually needed on a scene? I can think of one call where they may have been needed but I don't think FAST existed locally back then (Big Fire in Ossining - Charter Circle Apartment Building - Several Firefighters were trapped on a fifth? floor with no egress and yelling out a window for a ladder to rescue them). What kind of medical training do FAST teams recieve if any? How lengthy is FAST training? Could it not be included in base firefighter training so as to allow a regular engine company to stand back and act FAST?

Gallery is the name of the script he (and I) use for displaying photos. It's awesome and if anyone would like to set it up for thier website, let me know. I can get you started. Tom: How did you get the cool white oval area around your descriptions? I haven't played with the new version much, but thats a neat little feature.

Another thing that many people don't think about is securing equipment. How many times have you gotten into a rig and found an oxygen cylinder l unsecured on the stretcher or floor? Ever consider what kind of force a heavy O2 cylinder delivers when it goes from X miles an hour to impact? (I'll spare everyone the nauseating physics lecture). I get into a flycar every week and always find the gear unsecured with no protection between myself and the gear. (I'd love if they install cages but thats a different story). People are very quick to turn around and blame the management for not putting in expensive cabinets. Well, I got news people. I can secure evry last ounce of gear in that truck, without a cage, so that it ain't going anywhere? hy don't others? Who knows. Probably too lazy. But I don't want to hear anyone crying when they get decapitated by a flying lifepak during a front end collision.

I would personally love to see a better restraint system for the rear of ambulances. I believe a majority of fatalities involving ambulance crashes, occur in he patient care compartment. I've had a couple of close calls in the past, and unfortunatly when you are dealing with a serious patient by yourself (sorry people, we all can't have 2-3 people in the back like in the vollies). you need the ability to move around and get done what needs to be done. And seatbelts in the rear just prevent that from happeneing. If I'm doing a routine transport and I can staick to one spot, then generally I try to put them on. As a driver I like to make sure that everyone is buckeled up, especially when there are family members on board. Bus doesn't move until they are secured and buckeld in. I've even told my partners to buckle up because I prefer to see them in one piece.

OVAC typicaly does a nice open house event with clowns, balloons, the DUI Car, etc. MKVAC wanted to have thier open house on Sunday to lead into EMS week, but it got pushed back and should be early June. I'm not sure of any other EMS event/open houses that really flaunt the idea of EMS Week.

To end all speculation: http://www.driveintheater.com/index.htm It lists the one in Mahopac, Elmsford and Putnam Valley (Cortlandt). It doesn't mention there having been one in Yonkers or Somers.

I can't wait to see how unrealistic it will be. aybe it will be like that old fire show where the guys ran into burning buildings with no scott packs on....remember that one? Later on i think they put on masks but they had no faces on the masks so you could still see the actors talking. Sigh. The only real way to appreciate the job is to do it.
-
Good to hear they are back in business. I know they were closed for most/all of last season.
-
Now if they could only find a good place for thier new fire house. Any word on the land deal that is going on over there? Last I heard they were trying to get the land from the lumber yard under eminent domain, but the owner is (understandably) fighting the move.
-
Is it just me or is that a HUGE list of participants? I can't imagine how long it would take to march them all through. The pen afterwards must have been swamped. What was the route anyways? The village isn't all that big.

I believe the White Plains contract is currently under the old name "Abbey Richmond" and is why there are still a handful of lances with the Abbey name on them around WP. It is supposedly in the contract that they have to be labeled as such.

WE have one department that I deal with on a not so regular occasion (identity hidden to protect the guilty) that dispatches fire and ambulance. It's a regular problem that they don't call for ALS when they should, and then when BLS gets to the scene they can't figure out why thier medic isn't anywhere near them. I would love to see them move thier dispatch to 60 control, beause when 60 dispatches us, it's the only time that thier ALS gets dispatched at the same time (or so it seems).

What I do remember at Baldwin Place was the old mall which, while still open, was a bit of a ghost town. I remember there being a skating rink and a few stores, and that was it. The Westchester Mall (the old Cortlandt one, not the new one in WP) was the same way before it finally got ripped down.
-
Well, they sure sat there long enough before saying anything. I mean what did they do? Sit there and think, "Oh look. Guys with ski masks and guns. How New York City. Oh wait. I'm a cop. Okay, maybe I should do something about it.......now."
