Yeah. Thats the station in Kahalui. I saw it on several occasions but traffic prevented me from quickly stopping and getting pictures. They regularly had the engines parked on the apron. Same in the station in Kihei. They only appeared to have one engine there and looked like they had a two man crew on because the same two large trucks were usually parked there. I don't know if they are augmented by volunteers. Wailea is like the Beverly Hills of Maui, really nice place. Where did you stay? I got a condo for about $90/night in Kihei with a nice view and plenty of room. I'd go back again in heartbeart. I didn't find the drivers there too bad. Tho there was one accident on Piilani Hwy that looked pretty juicy. (Hey Seth...can you move this to the discussion room? The original message was really just a goof. :->)

I was sitting in Oahu chilling with my Mai Tai and for some reason was watching this show called Extreme Home Makeover. It's on ABC and involves the carpenter from Trading Spaces going to people's homes and doing major makeovers. These makeovers are typically done for families with special needs. (This particular one was for a girl with a medical condition that I missed the details on but she needed special filters to help her breath and they worried about her getting sick (my theory was Leukemia). Now since one of the last patients I took care of was Jimmy Boy, he popped into my mind and I though....how cool would it be if we could get them to come and make over the Arena's house? Anybody know who to write to? Trading Spaces did an episode in Katonah once before, maybe Extreme Makeovers could be convinced to travel a little further north to Purdy's?

At that rate, might as well just sleep in the jump seat of the fire engine with all your gear already on. Saves gas on the trip to the fire house.

Thanks. Maybe it doesn't go online for a day or two.

If anyone can link to it I would love to see it. Mike: what day did it appear? I can try and find it with a web search. Even a title would help a little.

Oh don't worry, I didn't take it as negative. The additional info in fact definatly could help the person who posted the request know the way things work a little better.....and thats what we're here for. 8) And yeah, each ER is different in what they want to hear over the radio. White Plains likes it short an sweet "Comming in with an MI, see you in two" or some other hospitals who like a full set of vitals and ask you for it if you don't tell them. But sure, if they don't want to hear a dissertation, they can just walk away from the radio and go about their business. And no St. Joes is NOT a trauma center. Anything requiring a trauma team response should go to a level 2 or higher, which Joes is not. If Traumas are going to Joes, they shouldn't be unless it's an (imminent) arrest.

I talked to Seth and will be providing him with a copy of said episode. I agree with whomever in that it was THE BEST episode of Third Watch ever. If anyone else needs a copy, private message me and we can make arrangements. I have it in digital format.

Rob: needless to say my last post was a bit sarcastic. In real life my calls to the med are usually by HEAR and do just what you say: describe the patient and let them sort out what they want to do. My first experience with the new ER was working a patient struck by a vehicle. I called it in over the HEAR radio and they got the picture well. The response appeared to be Level 2 in nature (the guy wasn't all that bad off, worst would have been a good head trauma). People trickled in as the time passed. We have learned in the past that they do NOT like being told what kind of response (Level 1, 2, 3, etc) to mount, but if the patient is really in need, and you feel a full trauma need should be gathered, then my all means make the call. In the end, the best interests of the patient should prevail.

Talked to one one of the ER docts from there and he agrees that It needs some work. Halls are narrow and when there are patients on beds stacked up in the halls, it makes movement difficult. My first experience witjh the new ER was bringing in a trauma patient. It is kind of surreal to have all of the staff congregating in the main ER with the trauma ER feeling like a ghost town once the patient has been assessed and taken care of. One person of unknown origin walked up to me and aksed me where the waiting room was. I told him I have no idea since this was my first time here (after opening) and he proceeded to walk through the trauma area unimpeded. I like the old ER in that it had slop/scrub sinks in the hallways outside of the trauma rooms. Now if you want to clean up or wash your hands you either need to intrude into a trauma room or hope nobody is tying up the one bathroon in the hallway there. Initial impressions: The architect should be shot.

When you call into WMC with a trauma, be sure to call in and tell them you have a level 1 trauma. The surgeons LOVE when you tell them what level code to run.

Considering the recent spurt of structure fires in the Northern Westchester area, I was wondering (spurred by someone's mention of it in the Croton discussion): What are different department's policies regarding rehab? Do you just call in an ambulance to standby and watch while the firefighters just step back, grab a watter, cool off and jump back in? Or do you have a REAL rehab system setup with a set minimum time out dependant on environment (longer on hot and really cold days), vital sign tracking, hydration and nutritional rehab (sports drinks and granola bars)? I think with all the LODD notices you see of people dropping on a scene from heart attacks and the like, the guys and girls running the fireground should be well taken care of and tracked medically. Sure, it's a b**** to be told to sit out for a while because your B/P is too high, but it's better than sitting out permanently becuase you worked yourself (literally) to death. I have been told in the past (correct if wrong) that it is the Fire Department's responsibility to develop a rehab program for thier department. I personally think that the EMS from the area should be involved and everyone should sit down as a group and hash out a definitive plan for protecting the health and safety of our brothers and sisters. The days of the ambulance crews sitting around twiddling thier thumbs should be gone and a better plan instituted.

WEMS Flycars going out for conversion. Place in Danbury called Specialty Warning Systems. Paint scheme identical to the old trucks. Electrical system will kick butt! I can't wait to get pictures.

Really? Rob took over as CIC huh? Excellent. I think he will make a very good instructor. As for RCC's program, anything is possible. I understand Mary left a while back and Scott is now moving Westward. There is a new lady coming in to take over the CCEMT-P coordination. I do not know if she will be doing the EMT-P as well.
