Yeah. The number of courses is gradually growing in size. And it gets students from all over the world. The last course I taught had 7 doctors in it and several people from Germany and Australia. Of course as a Paramedic teaching doctors and especially the material being covered, it can be rather nerve wracking. :|

From ahls.org: Not sure how this affects most people, but if your department recieved funding for courses from ODP, you can now use those funds toward sending students to AHLS.

Mount Kisco VAC was due to have thier open house this past Sunday but it got postponed. I last heard that it will be on June 6th. The original hope was to have it lead into EMS week. I guess things got tied up with the CO.

It's not clear from the article, but I suspect what x635 said. I think she was actually driving an ambulette, and thus probably would not have had a partner.

Every agency that I know of that follows the WC numbering system, uses -11, -12, -13, etc for the line officers. -01, -02, -03, etc are typically units (ambulances, flycars, etc).

I didn't say they were repeaters. I weas talking about leased lines. They connect the "base" to the antenna if the antenna is at a remote site. If it goes down, you might as well be transmitting out of your rubber duckie.

For those of you who don't want to be bothered loading a large PDF, some LP12s equipped with biphasic technology have had problems after being software upgraded where the energy level settings that might have been set by the user in the past (200-300-360 for instance) are reset back to 125joules with no indication to the user other than the monitor showing the lower energy level just prior to shocking. Make sure you check your monitors to be sure the energy scale is properly set. If you don't know how to access the user settings or can't because a passcode is set, consult your supervisor or physio control service representative.

PCVAC used to be the only VAC/Squad in Westchester and perhaps most of the Hudson Valley with 4 ambulances. But when we sold our old Braun (7504) to Croton, it was never replaced and they have been running 3 ambulances ever since, backed up by one BLS flycar for the line officers. Thats why it's designated 7505. No idea if they ever plan to put a fourth bus on the road again. I tend to doubt it. I don't remember ever having 4 lances on the road and manned and in use. 3 yes, 4 no. (Someone else might, but I've never seen it).

Report from the man in the know is that WEMS is looking to do two additional new flycars in the spring, identical to 4016 and 4017 (the new ones we just recieved). With minor tweaks to the current installation, they will be mint vehicles. 8)

Then you might consider getting friendly with the local Judge, because I don't think it would hold up in court very well.

Personally I don't understand why more ambulances in the 911 system in NYC aren't vans. They are less expensive, more manuverable (especially with traffic the way it is), and easier for a lone crew(wo)man to work in, than a modular.

http://www.news12.com/WC/topstories/article?id=128593# Link to article in question with associated video. Portion in question is at the end. Yeah it's not a smart thing to do, but getting "caught" on camera doing it was probably his worst offense.

You think he was depressed before? Now he's got over 15 dead people (thats the latest nuber I have heard) and hundreds injured. That's gonna increase his med dosage a wee bit.

Earlier this week it was reported that YFD was having some comms problems due to flooding from the water main break (I'm guessing flooding in the Verizon building brought down the leased line). Maybe the situation still exists and if affecting your reception?

Well, I don't think PCVAC is guilty of calling M/A anymore than the next guy. In fact they've gone the distance and contracted out to have an EMT/Driver in quarters during the day. Kudos to them for that. Sometime I wonder tho if maybe the hours shouldn't extended to start at 6am, since calls between 6am (when the night crew leaves) and 8am (when the paid guy comes in) seem especially hard to cover.

IF you want to be really technical, the V&T law applies mostly to vehicles in motion on the road. If I was in a flaming mood and wanted to put a purple strobe light on my vehicle, on private property, i could. Second I start tooling around on any public road, it becomes a violation. I don't see why the V&T law would prevent use of a green light on a stationary command post at an ICS scene. And even if it did, find one police officer that would write the IC a summons for it.

Yah. Same here. And that was "taking it easy". I wonder why the drop. I guess Mohegan is on the other side of the see-saw. They've been hitting record numbers (3000+ i want to say) for the past several years. They might just be the busiest VAC in westchester.
-
Thats it? When i was a member there we topped out somewhere closer to 3000. Hell, first year i rode i did 900 calls. Did they just end up giving a lot to mutual aide?

Nah. Hook that bad boy up to a small portable air tank. Reminds me of an episode of "Pimp My Ride" "Oh, good morning Garrett" HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONK "Hi there Ray." BrWWWWWWWWWWWWWWwwap! "Al, my man!" BLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSST  =D>

WNBC is reporting that FDNY gave up on carrying personal escape ropes a few years ago because they were bulky and cumbersom to use. They also state that a rope was in place but there was not enough time to use it.
-
What software are you using to run the feed and what service are you using? (Shoutcast?)
-
It sounds like the problem was actually not being blocked but was a fast moving fire or a flashover/backdraft situation where there was no time to carabiner a rope and repel down the 3-4 stories.
