  1. At my full time job I always respond with L&S because 1) It's our protocol to and 2) If I didn't people would complain. At my part time job I work a night shift and more often than not I respond with no lights and sirens. At the part time job we are dispatched to everything so a lot of times the situation doesn't call for a "hot" response, but even if it did, I find that I can get there (again, at night) just as quickly without as with. Sure, if I run into an obstacle, (traffic [rare], red light, etc) I'll light up.
  2. Folks. Please be careful with the towing of sledders behind a vehicle. A child of a PFD firefighter was killed last year when the quad made a turn and he hit a tree going god-knows how fast. Stick to man made propulsion huh?
  3. Thankfully the 117s have two engines so even if one goes down you at least have a backup.
  4. Down Dayton Lane in Peekskill on a metal bedpan. 8)
  5. When I left for work at 7pm we had about an inch on the ground. Whe I got back at 8:30 it was more like 5-6. Pucker up everyone. This should be interesting.
  6. No. All of PCVAC's rigs are/were new when they got them. And yes, CCVAC has a 4WD vehicle. Kent used to have one as well. Doesn't Croton have a 4WD bus also? Thier older one (with the division between driver and compartment) looks aweful high off the ground to NOT be one.
  7. Wait? WE? Did she actually think it was cool or did she sit there twiddling her thumbs? If she thought it was cool then you DAMN RIGHT you shoulda kept her around! :->
  8. CAREFUL. Just because you are an EMT who happens on an event doesn't mean you have a duty to act. If I pull up to a car accident and there is a guy all bloodied up and I have no protective gear, I can absolutely refuse to help. I'm A) Not compensated. Ill equipped. C) Have NO duty to act. I do understand your POB tho. You probably meant if an ON DUTY EMT got to a scene then refused say because the person couldn't pay, or the person was a skell, etc.....then they would have some explaining to do.

  10. Oh come now. What percentage of people working for FDNY actually live in NYC?

  12. Why? Becuase you disagree with him? I thought it was a well written review, and while I can't vouch for accuracy having not seen the movie, I thought it relayed his sentiments well. Sure, the veneration comments may have been a little harsh, but if you stand back and look from a neutral position, it's not far from realiity. Tho I wouldn't quite consider a sanitation position or desk clerk as being heroic.
  13. Speacial Weapons and First Aid. "Plug em then patch em" was the motto I believe? 8)
  14. The famous lighted disco floor that was made famous by John Travolta and Saturday Night Fever is up for auction after being salvaged from a derelict night club in brooklyn. Maybe they can buy that and use it for triage sectioning to go along with the disco ball. 8) http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/entertainment/4288849.stm
  15. Scopetta was on the news just a day or two ago when FF Cool was released from Barnie's and said they will be working immediatly to purchase and train (on OT) firefighters to use safety ropes.
  16. I'm fairly sure that Emergency is only out on Tape, no DVDs are out yet. At least not OFFICIALLY.

  18. Best/Easiest way is to get the picture hosted somewhere and then use the IMG button in the posting window to link to that URL and the picture will link in the post.
