  1. From the quick looks I've done Patterson does seem to have quite a few houses at reasonable prices. What pluses and minuses did you find for the area? I assume schools are Brewster?
  2. If you badge stinks, then you're probably keeping it in the wrong place.
  3. If anything we learned a lot of very important lessons from the tragedy that happened that morning. Hopefully we will use what we learned and not have history repeat itself. I could b**** and complain about the fact that they are holding up construction of the Freedom Tower because of security issues, but I'd rather it be safe than full of security holes. Tho I often wonder why it took them so long to bring them up and why the problems weren't isolated earlier.
  4. I don't give much attention to badges on EMS people, but I have to admit, it's gotten me out of a few tickets in the past. That I can see as the only advantage of having one. For professional courtesy. People running around with them on a chain undercover style or on thier belts when off duty are just whackers.
  5. I'm going to invent a way to strangle people via the internet just so I can wring your neck for singing that song. :chainsaw:
  6. Olivia without a doubt. #-o
  7. I'd be willing to bet that if a plane of similar size hit the Empire State Building, that it wouldn't budge. And that was built well before the WTC.
  8. Quick blurb and pictures shown just before the hour of an MVA in LA between LAFD Engine 215 and a passenger car. Substantial damage to both. Details to follow as I get them.
  9. Date: 5/5/2005 Time: Approx 0330 hours Location: IFO British Consulate - 845 Third Ave, Manhattan City/County: Manahattan, NYC Agencies: NYPD, ESU, FBI Frequency: Every news channel that matters Writer: WAS967, FoxNews Description: Two devices, described by police as novelty hand-grenades packed with gunpowder, were put in a concrete flower tub in front of the building and detonated. Damage to the planter and glass door in front of building. No injuries reported. FBI currently questioning foreign national from the Netherlands who was seen I/V/O location prior to explosion.
  10. Are you saying the baby is his and not yours?!?!?! j/k Congrats! Can't wait to see pictures.
  11. If you knew anything about the construction of the buildings you would probably be against building the exact same ones all over again.
  12. But the ambulance is cheaper. So call 911. Cab wants money up front. 911 sends a bill which we can ignore later on. ](*,)
  13. I'm with DADAY. The Select sucks. I had one and couldn't stand the single bell design. I prefer dual bell/head scopes like the Adscope 602 I have. $150 for a scope is a waste of money for most providers. As an EMT it's more than you really need. Like I said earlier, my $80 ADC works just as well if not better than more expensive scopes I've tried. Littman included. Keep in mind, your scope WILL get lost eventually. Spend the amount of money you are willing to have lost in the line of duty at one point or another.
  14. IS that what your picture is? I thought it was a blurred picture of your kids standing next to a roles royce
  15. You may be correct to an extent. Having looked at the pictures, it appears it was a side impact on the bench side of the rig. I fear all the restraints in the world may not have saved anyone sitting on that benchseat.
  16. What is it with dump trucks cutting off ambulances lately (OVAC had similar)? It's saddening that people died and highlights what seth said. We deal with an unfortunate double edge sword each time we step into the back of an ambulance. A lot of times we can't strap outselves in because of ongoing patient care. People complain about small van ambulances, but guess what. You can strap in on the bench and be safe while still being able to reach just about anything you need. Rest in Peace Guys.
  17. Oh and kudos to you for working to perfect your technique. A lot of other people would just say "I can't get it" and reach for the autocuff on the lifepak 12. [-X [-X [-X ](*,)
  18. Best I can figure is that the position of the diaphram of your stethescope isn't sitting over an artery in those 40% of cases. I usually start on the medial (toward the body) aspect of the antecubital space (inside of the elbow) and if I don't get a good reading there I move to the lateral (away from the body) aspect. Remember every patient is different. I find a good stethescope helps, but more for listening to breath/heart/bowel sounds than for BPs. You are correct that for a person with good hearing such as yourself, a cheapo steth works just as well as a $150 Littman. BTW, if you are looking for a good stethescope that won't break the bank, consider ADC. Both my Wife and I have Adscope 602s and they work great. I was originally looking for a dual bell scope like the Cardiology IISE, but Littman seems to have discontinued those.
  19. I always knew she'd go out with a bang.
  20. From dictionary.com (I know, I'm a geek): :mrhappy:
  21. Well thankfully they didn't have the epi pen ready to jab the patient in the leg with. Had similar but the BLS crew said they were going to give the patient an epipen but wanted to wait until I got there. (Thank God) Needless to say the patient was just anxious and needed a good talking to. Epi pen would have mad it worse. Not to put the fear of god into people, but if you are gonna give a medication, be DAMN sure you know what it is that you are doing. If you need to, call the medic or medical control. Ask for advice. Thats what we/they are there for.
  22. Here's a tip to all you providers out there (regardless of level) when it comes to cardiac arrests. Take a deep breath and RELAX. The patient is more stable now than they ever will be as ironic as that sounds. They can't get worse. You can help make them BETTER, but you need to step back and use your head. Let your body do what you were trained to do (blowing and pushing) and then let your mind step back and THINK about the big picture. Are you doing compressions on a water bed? Move em to the floor. Are you up three stories? Get a reeves. Did you run in without your suction? Go get it, cause you are gonna need it eventually. The more experienced you are the better you will get. But we all have to start somewhere. Have patience with those who have less experience than yourself, and learn from those who have been around the block a few times. But for those of you who have lapped the course a few times, don't let it go to your heads and start treating those below you like lesser beings.</soapbox>
  23. True. Long gone are the days of doing it all ourselves as EMTs and if we had a code or bad accident we called in Drs. McGurty, Burns or Hickey. 8)
  24. Hmm. I smell another controversy brewing. :-> I guess the KISS method just works. If you say simply "Unit X Responding" you don't get involved in the whole in/out of service confusion.
  25. Wow. I might have actually known him from there then. I was there for my short stint around that time, tho the exact year slips my mind now. I never ended up freeing enough time from my classwork to be able to do it regulalry, so I didn't get a chance to get my FCC license or anything. It was fun tho while it lasted. Somewhere I think I still have a tape of me reading the news. :->
