HVHC had a spread of wedges and sodas at the Call Audit and was giving out pens and candy all week. PMHC has "Dinner and a Movie" and a two hour audit on Wednesday and had a nice banner hanging outside the ER. WEMS had an employee BBQ on Friday (who the heck knew Al could man a grill so well?) which had decent attendance for short notice (I got the page for it on Thursday afternoon). Danbury Hospital had an event on the 18th I believe with a speaker and some food(?).

Talk to any CPR instructor and they can probably set something up for you. Basically for CPR for the Healthcare Provider (that is if you hold a CPR-HCP card) we just sit down, watch the video, do some skills and you take a quick test. For the experienced individual you can probably be done in two hours. From a financial perspective, you are typically better off getting two or three people together to bring costs down. IF you have any trouble finding a class, PM me and I can see what I can setup for you.

Does anyone beside me see the extreme irony in giving Ray Thompson the EMS Educator of Excellence award?
-
Named for William Dawson Sr, past owner of Abbey Richmond Ambulance and pioneer in EMS in Westchester County, also one of the first Paramedic in New York State (I think his EMT number was something like # 000008). Anyways, the awards was created in his honor and is awarded to an individual who demonstrates an exceptional contribution to EMS as a whole. The recipient need not be affiliated with any particular agency or facility. The Dawson award isn't given out every year, but has been given out the past several years.

Dr Emil Nigro of Phelps ER was named Physician of the Year. Dr. Klekatsky (sp) from SSMC-ER was given a Dawson Award. I know he won Physician of the year last year, but I think in honor of his hard work and recent retirement we should nominate Dr. Norman Scott from WMC-ER for a Dawson award for next year.

I've been meaning to go there since I've been hurting to find a GOOD italian place since Mirragio's seems to have gone downhill quality-wise. The Italian Place in the Cortlandt Town Center is decent, but it isn't what Mirragio's used to be.

That was linke a second home to use when I worked Abbey in WP. Especially handy when one of our EMTs was dating the girl behind the counter and she'd hook us up with 10 dollar subs for 2 bux.

Gyros? Did someone say Gyros? Lefteri's Gyro on Main Street and 9 in Tarrytown is the best around. :chew: :chew: :chew: :chew:

Next time I'll have to try just the chili. Noce level of heat. Worked the Alpha unit one day a while ago and my partner dragged me down there. Can't find the WP WEMS unit? It's probably at Hubba's. :flamed:

I just made the mistake of watching tonight's musical guest on Jay Leno, "Juliette & the Licks". I'm sitting there wondering who the old bag is that seems like she's smoked too much over the years (wrinkled face and raspy voice to match) and had some very BAD plastic surgery. Much to my dismay it turned out to be Juliette Lewis. (What the!!!!!!) Can anyone tell me what happened to her? She actually used to be decently hot. Now I want to gouge my eyes out. :yikes: :censored:

What a helpful chap you are. Have a spoon.

Do they use different PLs or DPLs? If so and you have a scanner that filters out by PL, you can program them in to help filter out the stuff you don't want to hear. If they both use the same (D)PL or none at all, then you're kinda SOL.

Yeah, I shoulda put the Level 1 part in there. Good point with the peds portion too. Just goes to show you how much be take WMC for granted. I've never really had to make the distinction between peds and adult burn centers because WMC covers all the stops. I think this was discussed in the form of a, instead of lowering the state sales tax 1/8% or so, keep it as is and have the money go toward hospitals like WMC that are so desperately in need of financial assistance. I think it will eventually come to the point where the State NEEDS to step in and help out.

Do they still do EMS for the campus? LAst I heard they still have an ambulance but I haven't heard of us (CRP) doing any intercepts with them in a while. I know they don't cover the Nursing Home because CCVAC goes there all the time. ](*,)

Actually it's worse. WMC is the only (ed. Level 1) TRAUMA center between here and Albany. AMC is not a burn center so WMC is the only one between NYC (Jacobi) and CANADA. (If you can believe that). I couldn't tell you where the people from Albany go in the event of a bad burn patient. Maybe they even come all the way down to WMC. Simple fact is we can't afford to loose the services of WMC, be it the burn center, trauma, helicopters, etc. Unfortunatly the tax payers of Westchester County are stuck holding a majority of the financial responsibility. It's time for the surrounding counties in the region (including CT and perhaps north Jersey) to pony up and start bearing some of the fiscal burden.

No "mean" taken. A lot of people from outside the area are unfamiliar with our little resident hero: "Jimmy Boy" is the youngest of seven children and only son of Katonah FD firefighter and ex-chief, Jim Arenas. Jimmy Boy lives with his family in Northern Westchester. He was diagnosed some time ago with a brain tumor and has been fighting an uphill battle ever since. Thanks to the prayers and support of pretty much the entire emergency service community in Northern Westchester/Putnam he has reached a plateau after being treated at Loma Linda Children's Hospital in California, one of only three in the nation with specialized treatment (Proton Radiation) capable of dealing with a case like Jimmy's. JimBoy's dad is a member here on the board and provides us all with regular updates and thankfully the news lately has been positive. I'm sure he can and will provide any/all information you need. You can also check out the little guy's website at http://www.jimmboy.com/ which has a lot of information and updates.

....how to make beer with a used Nitro bottle, some D50, some left over wheat germ, and.....oh never mind....you don't wanna know where the yeast comes from..... :|

Or a cowboy hat that was actually quite stylish.

Living Will is presented by the daughter and states the aforementioned. What treatment would you provide?
-
Any number of reasons could arise in this case. Family panic. Main caregiver was out and unreachable and other family did not know what to do so called 911, etc.

Sounds like a pretty good idea especially since the food threads seemed to do well before they died off. Now they sit collecting dust in the bowels of the Lounge somewhere - where new members might not as easily find them. Making a seperate forum for just food would make it easier to find, but of course has the (albeit minor) side effect of adding yet another forum to a main screen that is quickly filling up. I'd suggest another topic which I've always found a little humorous. We can call it "The Dashboard Gourmet". Dedicated to all those EMS/Fire/Police/etc personnel who have had to sit on post and eat lunch in the few minutes between calls. We can include unique recipes from people who have found ways to "rough it" with few cooking resources available. "Engine Block Grilled Cheese" would be the first I'd add.

Thanks for the info Tom. Are any of the air units able to act as water drops or in emergent EVAC? (Kind of a redundant question perhaps since I think they were doing just that on 9/11).
-
No real question, just looking for people's thoughts on treatment modality. Lets say 90/60. None discernable. Skin is Warm and Clammy. To touch it seems hyperthermic. Ate a short while before 911 was called and had an episode of vomiting. Family believes she may have choked on some food for a short period because she is so weak, but it seemed to self resolve with the patient coughing from time to time. Well, we could throw anything in here really. But lets say Duragesic and MS Contin for pain, Coumadin and Digoxin for a history of A-Fib (to kind of fit in with the irregular heart rate). Possibly others but the family can't find them. Patient is also on a home oxygen unit with 2lpm supplied by nasal cannulae. Sluggish but reactive and just a hair above pinpoint, say about 2mm. When asked the definition of a "short while ago" the family states patient ate about 2 hours ago, vomited shortly thereafter and was fine for about an hour. Patient then seemed short of breath about 15 minutes prior to calling 911 with persistent cough. Lets go with no for now and keep it fairly simple. Good point. But lets throw a stone in the mill. Family (daughter specifically) states she has the patient's living will and it states that the patient wishes not to have any heroric measures taken to lengthen her life, including breathing/feeding tubes, IV hydration/nutrition, defibrillation, etc.
