  1. Well of course they don't work right, the tires just fly right off. Oh, you mean the MDTs?
  2. There is actually a good mix on the board here. But mosto f the people who have responded so far are medics, yes. Would you sit a person upright with a B/P of 90/60? Would you consider assisting respirations in this patient with a resp rate of 40 and heavy accessory muscle usage? It actually IS very much your call. You are in charge. So what if you can't put a tube or a line in place? Medical Control tells you to treat them like any patient and ALS is unavailable. What do you do? Relying on someone else to tell you isn't always an option. Which do you think is easier to defend: overtreating or undertreating? If anyone said they were perfect I wouldn't believe them.
  3. First kudos for recognizing that there is a problem. Too many times people don't want to believe that they have a problem responding to calls until someone dies. There are many different ways to help the issue but I fear that the problem will only continue to worsen as time progresses. Here are some of the more common/innovative ideas out there: -Paid crews. Peekskill has an EMT/Driver paid from a third agency that augments the volunteer pool during the daytime. It has made a huge difference in thier ability to respond to calls at times where volunteers are busy working. Many other corps have taken heed and done similar. They weren't the first to do it, but are a good example. -Get the PTA involved. This worked for both Chappaqua and Lewisboro. Hell, CVAC was all ready to pay an EMT to be quarters during the day until someone approached the PTA and discovered that a large number were willing to join and help out. This is why we call LVAC "PTA-VAC". -Utilize staff already employed by the town. Elmsford dispatches on the DPW frequency for a reason. During the day the DPW guys cover Fire/EMS calls. Consider asking the town if they'd be willing to allow DPW or other town workers to cover daytime calls during hard to cover hours. North Salem is very willing to allow thier Highway guys to leave for emergencies. Others may follow suit. Can't hurt to ask. -Seperation of EMS into a seperate entity. Heck if SHVAC can pull the 180 that they did, so can Croton.
  4. For a long time? Please. He'll plead first time offender and will probably be put on probation and community service. I'd be very surprised if he did anything more than time served. I just hope they make him either return the stuff or pay back the money with interest.
  5. Kayaking trip anyone?
  6. They're bitching about sunshine expenditures? $1000 for a (probably annual) dinner is not too bad. Please. Sounds like a witchhunt indeed.
  7. The Klondike is a great boat. WEMS used to do a fishing trip there during the summer, but has not for the past two years. I'm told fishing for blues is better at night but I wouldn't want to be a copycat. :-> Maybe one day we'll resurrect the summer fishing trip.
  8. Only boats I know of out of Playland are the little paddle boats. Kayaking on the sound out of there would be interesting tho. Especially in the marshes. Update: From KayakNY.com:
  9. Any data to back up your statements?
  10. It has been discussed in the past but never really came to light.
  11. Gosh darn it. Who mentioned Sausage and Pepper pizza. Now I gotta look up the phone number to Nappoli's a make an order. =D>
  12. Thier Chinese is "okay" but thier Sushi is awesome. It might be a little yuppie bastardized for the true purist sushi lover, but it fits me perfectly. I love to just go in there and grab a seat and the sushi bar. I usually start out with a Green Tea and some Seaweed salad. Then go to town on the rolls (they usually have a Buy 3, Get one Free special so I order 4 between my wife and I). I like the Salmon and Tuna Rolls as they serve them with slices of fruit on top (forget which has which - one has peaches, the other kiwi). Thier spider roll is excellent with great sauce.
  13. It's definatly a decent system for the price. I was stunned to see that it had component outputs on it. The only real thing that it's missing for the true A/V-phile is an optical audio (TOSLink) output. It does have a coax digital but if your reciever doesn't have coax, you're stuck with basic 2 channel audio.
  14. I'm hurt. I guess you've never noticed the sticker on the back of my truck. I don't know of any Kayak stores in the WC but there is a decent one in Cold Spring called Hudson Valley Outfitters right on the main drag (Main st?). They have a decent selection and what they don't have they can order for you and steer you in the right direction. They aren't dedicated totally to Kayaking (they do hiking and general outdoors stuff too) like Lake George Kayak Company (located on Lake George in Bolton Landing near the Giant Resort Hotal [name slips my mind right now]). You can rent Kayaks locally and try them out....there are various clubs. Atlantic Kayak Tours is more a club than a company. They run the kayak rentals out of Annsville Creek Paddlesports Center and have a ton of free courses to take and run a lot of tours for a nominal fee. Don't start in the ocean unless you are on a tour. If you are going to rent - go with at least a buddy. NEVER GO ALONE especially as a newbie. I'd start by calling someone you know who is into Kayaking and go with them. HINT HINT. Rent locally and try it out. Start with calm water like a lake or river inlet with little to no currents. (Annsville Creek Inlet, Lake George, etc). Then move your way to waterways like the Hudson or the sound. Ocean Kayaking is probably the one of the last steps on the totem pole but if you want to do a tour and try it on the ocean first, be my guest. And later on - WHITE WATER. What is the name of the CT store? Is it close by? Here are some links for you to get started: http://www.atlantickayaktours.com/ http://www.lakegeorgekayak.com/ http://www.lakegeorgekayak.com/ http://www.paddlesportcenter.com/
  15. I was on a DOA call the other morning. Nasty DOA. Was very glad I had shorts on. I think one of the FD guys had shorts on and I felt bad for him having to drag that body against his bare legs. I'm sure he went back to station and took a nice LONG shower after that one. I've gotten used to wearing long pants year round. Doesn't bother me. YMMV.
  16. I know where I work there are several people who have expressed interest in the culinary arts. I'd be willing to try my hand at a cookoff. 8) I think I've perfected my Penne alla Vodka enough to win a prize or two. Tho NYTruckie would hate it. Whole LOTTA garlic. =D>
  17. I like the Chicken Scarapiello (sp?) they have downstairs. Tasty.
  18. How were your bowels afterwards? We went there and the food was good and price was decent, nice size plum wine for $3 but talk about gastronomic aftermath! Sheesh. They also screwed up our time but were at least willing to make food for the two of us so we didn't have to wait for a whole table. Go with a large group so you have people you know and not a bunch of nosey people gawking at your food wonder "what's THAT". ](*,)
  19. NO! Please don't teach the new generation of caregivers the lazy habits of the old. You're only doing the patients and caregivers a dis-service.
  20. I personally call the location when I'm responding just as confirmation that I heard correctly and am going to the right place. Tho I probably shouldn't anymore since half the times I call responding to the wrong location, nobody picks up on it and corrects me.
  21. Most unique I've seen tho has become populart everywhere is the old Hawaiian Pizza - Ham, Pineapple, sometimes bacon. Never could get myself to tray that - even when in hawaii.
  22. If you have this DVD player and it somehow gets stuck in Progressive scan mode (screen is unreadable/split thus making it almost impossible to change back because all setting are via OSD) here is the fix I found after some searching - with the machine on - start with the tray closed. Hold the STOP button for 5 seconds (actually can be a short bit longer). Screen should revert back to factory setting. If it doesn't work with the tray open, close the tray and repeat above. We had this happen at 45Medic3 recently and it worked with the tray closed.
