Sounds vaguely familiar. Maybe I wrote it while in a drunken stupor. Remember: Alcohol is kinda like formaldehide: it preserves you!

If you want to make a wav file and you have a scanner, you can get a cable to connect your scanner to your computer and use any recording program to record stuff from the scanner. Most decent recording programs will output to WAV or MP3 format. IF you want further help, let me know, I can walk you through it.

Every once and a while I try to slip a little "very good" back at him on the phone or on the air. It's his trademark. 8)

But we all know who gets sued for thier being stupid.

I agree 100%. Surprising you actually get them to pay attention to your ECGs. Maybe I'll try again in the future, who knows, maybe others have broken the ice and gotten it across that we're more than glorified oxygen administrators.

A 2 hour CME is held at Hudson Valley Hospital on the third tuesday of the month consisting of 1 hour call audit and 1 hour CME. Additional information can be had by calling 734-3787 and leaving a message. There is a 2 hour CME every month as well on either the second or fourth Wednesday (I forget which). Phelps Hospital has a 2 hour call audit (half BLS/half ALS) on the third Wednesday of each month. They also have an extensive CME video series available along with many other courses offered. Call 366-ELSP for more information. Northern Westchester Hospital does a Call Audit in association with WEMS on the third Thursday of each month at WEMS HQ. Call 244-0440 for information. I have no idea what kind of CMEs an EMT needs in a year, but they used to need at least 2 Call Audits to maintain thier "D" certification back in the day.

OH good. Just what they need. Another excuse to jack up thier prices. No thanks, they're high enough.

Last call I know for sure that they responded to was the Propane tanker on 287 in the mid 90s (1996?).

We should all get together and make a donation pool to the cause from EMTBravo members. It's that good a cause. I don't know enough member of the forums personally, but perhaps people like x635 and daday who knows EVERYONE, we can get money to them then send it over to Walter.

I still remember that. Kind of surprising coming from someone who grew up in EMS with thumpers. Or maybe BECAUSE she grew up with thumpers, who knows. As for 12-Leads, I've used em, and agree they are woefully underappreciated by ER staff. In fact, I'd do them more often if they bothered to use them more often. Otherwise unless there is a clear cut need, I simply have better things to do because it becomes a waste of time. A recent QA report of a call stated "I wonder what a 12 lead would have shown". My response: "Who cares? The ER sure doesn't." Oh well. With the above triaging of patients to designated heart centers however, 12-Leads will HAVE to become as commonplace in the treatment of r/o MI cases as ASA administration.

Can someone clarify the date?

The capitol for exotic food in Westchester (and previously Rockland before they closed thier Palisades location) IMHO is the Braseiro Churrascaria BBQ on Central Ave in Scarsdale. Been to the one at Palisades, very good but relatively pricey. http://www.ezpages.com/b004mnu.htm You get a little wood piece on the table with red and green markers. Turn it green side up and they bring you food. Turn up the red and they stop. Many food available at the all you can eat buffet. Meats served tableside on spits, including such exotic meats as Rabbit, Suckling Pig, kangaroo, venison, quail, and ostrich subject to availability.

PHTLS classes are becoming harder and harder to find. Sad too as it's a decent class for all levels of providers. WCDES occasionally does a class but I wasn't a big fan of it. I took another one in CT (Wilton?) which was VERY well done. CT State EMS Office was running classes all over the state with state grant money - classes were free of charge, even for out of state people. Mine was sponsored by Norwalk. Nikhil Natarajan from Ulster CCC's Paramedic Program was one of the instructors. Contacting him about a course locally could lead you in the right direction. Nearest ones scheduled are at LIJ or Nassau (NY). Englewood (NJ) does one fairly regularly and may be worth the short drive. http://www.naemt.org/PHTLS/programs/progsc...saandcanada.htm

But keep in mind CPR has less requirements than EMT. I'd imagine if you are old enough to take CPR and know it well, and mautre enough to teach it to others then you can be a CPR-I.
-
Seth: Perhaps a forward to the higher ups at WEMS would be in order?
-
Thats a really good question. I don't recall there being any mention from the AHA about a specific age requirement. I can peruse the instructor manuals and let you know. I'd imagine it's more of a maturity level requirement than an age limitation.

I don't think there is any office space left. We can convert the back bathroom into a cubicle for him. Or maybe just lock him in the supply closet. :->

Not exactly fireworks as a causation tho huh? Surprisingly there were none in my area either, at least none that we got dispatched to. Thankfully people used thier heads. There were a few incidents at the Riverfront in Peekskill during the display, but nothing that couldn't be handled - beesting and a chest pain/SOB I believe.

All I have to say about the new banner in the forums is: Awesome. We should keep it year round! =D>
-
Absolutely not too flashy. In fact if you get really crazy (and I know you are) you could do like google and change the backgrounds with each holiday, but the flag is perfect for year round use. It's all American, just like this board. 8)
-
Also, who is the course sponsor? Is it AHA, ARC, NSC?
-
Nobody left. They just never filled a slot that's been open for close to a year now.
-
It's not just a substation, it's a Zone HQ! But I digress. ToC gets what they pay for. If they wanted more police coverage, they could contract with WCPD for additional units, maybe even around the clock. Maybe people need to get the Town Board to understand that. One car on the road for 16 hours (and one guy in the ToC station) isn't enough IMHO.
