  1. Thank you for putting it so eloquently ALS. I do take pride in trying to word myself to the best of my ability. I was honestly really surprised at how well everyone responded to my response. I am glad to have been able to be an intelligent part of this discussion! Thats what we all (at least the moderators) like to see. People who respond with sarcasm to serious questions is rather counter productive. Hopefully the trend will continue.
  2. Yet another example of public ignorance. People see an ambulance pull up and they immediatly assume they have paramedics coming to the rescue, when they are getting EMTs. OR in the case of last night, 4 drivers and "no EMS on board". LOL
  3. BTW, when I watched the report, I was like "But wait, the AutoPulse is by Revivant, NOT Zoll." Well, both are correct. Apparently Revivant is a subsidiary of Zoll.
  4. Air misting insulin into a person who is already hypoglycemic would probably be detrimental if not deadly. Maybe there is a mist that they are experimenting with for people who have HIGH glucose levels (HYPERglycemia)? Excellent point! My thought: Absolutely! One of the EMTs from Somers is a diabetic and has an insulin pump and brough up the same question. She was going to show us one day what to do but I don't get to see her often. Maybe ChazEMT can get her to write a quick blurb/post on houw it's done. I'll also see if I can find a website that talks about insulin pumps and thier impact on pre-hospital care.
  5. Anyone else get overlap of the EMTBravo/Flag logo over the top menu? Here is a screenshot of what I mean. Seems to happen more often in Firefox/Mozilla, but I believe I saw it happen once in IE.
  6. Okay. Found one thing I miss about the new over the old forum software. phpBB along with other forum software have a small box at the bottom when reading a threat that is called "quick post" or "quick reply" that basically allowed you to type a quick reply to the thread and one button post. I don't see anything similar in the new software? Is there an option to add it?
  7. Sweet. Thanks EMTBravo! You're my HERO.
  8. Wierd. For some reason the link didn't post properly. Try now, it SHOULD work. (Here's to hoping).
  9. To complement previos posts I will add what any doctor will tell anyone: You're better with a patient with a high glucose level than a low one. That being said, if the patient is AMS, give the sugar as long as it can be done safely. There is a medication called Glucagon that can administered Intramuscularly (IM). It is readily available and I have seen several diabetics with a "Glucagon Emergency Kit" which is usually a small orange case about the size of a large magic marker. It has a small syringe of saline and a vial of powder (glucagon is unstable in liquid form and needs to be reconstituted before usage - a major hurdle for those who are unfamiliar with it's use). It works by releasing glucose that is stored in the muscles, thus raising the patient's blood glucose level. Go to the above link for pictures and more info. The problem with giving Dextrose by any route other than IV is the fact that high concentrations of Glucose/Dextrose/etc (Like the 50% Dextrose that is typically given to adults IV) have a necrotic effect and can cause destruction of tissue - a major concern if you have an IV infiltrate and you are thinking or already giving Dextrose. I wouldn't be surprised to see Glucagon (and even Narcan - used for opiate overdoses) make thier way onto BLS rigs in the near future. There are relatively few side effects and even if they are given inappropriately/unecessarily they won't do much to harm a patient - the pros far outweight the few cons. 10. Thay aren't looking into it as the CAUSE of death. They are looking to determine if it was a CONTRIBUTOR in the patient's death. They won't know that until the ME makes his/her report. Until then, they are wise to take the device out of service. In our litigous society, they stand to be sued if it is determined that the device even was SUSPECTED of contributing to the patient's death. Continuing to use it after suspicion has risen would just open them up to further problems. They will just have to make due until the device returns to service.
  11. Awesome. Now THATS service!
  12. Yeah, this forum software is a little better in the sense that you don't need to email the admin to submit an avatar. You can pretty much add your own. Be forwarned tho, avatars of an inappropriate nature will most likely be deal with harshly (ie....you ability to have an avatar at all could be revoked).
  13. Killed? Probably not. But have you ever seen someone slopping a tube of glutose down someone's gullet when they are Unconc/Unresp? "Have the medic hurry up, the patient is gurgling now!" <SIGH>
  14. I miss the Louisiana Cajun Cafe in Dobbs.
  15. Hey all. I'm looking for a GOOD silk screen place in the Middle Westchester/CT Border area to do some screening on "Hoodie" sweatshirts. IF anyone knows a good place, please let me know. Thanks!
  16. Found this on putfile.com. Thought you guys might appreciate it. I especially liked the guy with the C-Collar and bandages, the guy with the fighter airmask, and the guys in the....well, watch and see.... http://www.putfile.com/media.php?n=way_to_armadillo
  17. Tis true. How many people do you think will wear that helmet they mentioned? Even if it IS made company policy? I kinda wonder how that second bucket seat near the bench will effect ingress/egress through the side doors. Also, $150k for a VAN seems VERY excessive.
  18. I agree with the ruling. FDs don't have any responsibility really when it comes to downed power lines unless the power lines are on fire and/or in direct threat to human life or limb. IF they get to a downed power line and it is not an immediate threat, it should be marked clearly and left for the power company. It's not the FD's job to babysit a power line any more than it's not my job to babysit a psych patient that the hospital "hasn't decided to admit yet".
  19. I think PrintWear Plus is what we used previously to do job shirts. I'll have my buddy check them outalong with the place in Harrison. Both are close to where he works and more convient than Peekskill or LI. Thank you all for your input, any others, let me know.
  20. I've been told they all come from the same place, just some add additives which supposedly help with engine performance. Yet they only typically add them to the higher octane fuels. So you put in the higher octane and when you feel the engine it seems to have more pep. Well, of course it does. It's firing a LOT hotter than it would with lower octane. In the long run this will actually HURT your engine. Stick to the low octane (87) and if you want additives, throw in some aftermarket crap you can get from your local auto parts store.
  21. I really hate the way this article is written. The man's death is undetermined yet they immediatly assume it was the Autopulse. They only pulled the autopulse OOS as a precaution. Chances are his COD was unrelated. Stay tuned.
  22. Went to the website to check them out. Do they do other things than Fire/EMS/PD? Cause this doesn't fall into that category.
  23. DFFD fires up the grill for a BBQ. Unfortunatly he forgot to move it OUTSIDE.
