  1. God I loath RealPlayer. This may prove useful as well.
  2. Things like lung and heart sounds can't be taught through words or diagrams. You need to experience the sounds first hand for them to really sink in. For lung sounds I HIGLY suggest hooking up with an RT at a local hospital and following them on rounds. A good teaching RT will listen with you and tell you what it is you are hearing. Heart sounds, while not as important to know as lung sounds, are beneficial to learn but good cases of cardiac murmur, tamponade, etc can be hard to come by in slower ERs. I have not checked the site above yet, but the feedback seems favorable. A good tool that I purchased recently is Fundamentals of Lung and Heart Sounds, Third Edition (Book & CD-ROM) and goes over more sounds than you will probably ever need to know. Heart and Lung Sounds For The EMS Provider (CD-ROM) might be a little more affordable and is geared toward pre-hospital personnel. A good stethescope is also a HUGE help. Stay away from 8 dollar scopes if you want good clear chest sounds.
  3. Don't be so quick to place the blame on the mother not being there. The ride allows people to go on based on height. Yeah thats no indicator of maturity or the ability to be left alone, but most people assume that thier kid will be safe on a ride. The Old Mill is a "tunnel of love" style ride. A mother that doesn't go on the ride would not be able to see thier child when they are on the ride. <br>What I wonder tho is why did it take the mother 20 minutes to realize that thier kid was missing? Problem of course is that the blame will fall on the park and lawsuits will fly, and in the end, regardless of outcome, the park will suffer some sort of damage either to reputation and/or to wallet. As with last year's incident, it will probably come to light that the kid was doing something they shouldn't have, most likely stood up when he should not have, or tried to get out of the ride. Common sense would dictate that you don't standup or try to get out of the ride while it's in motion, even if it is a slow ride. Unfortunatly it seems like kids aren't raised with much common sense these days.
  4. Remember585: To answer (some of) your questions if you were at all interested: Yes it's WEMS (we're the only hospital based service in Westchester) and no it's not a part time deal.
  5. Give it some time. The head cheese is on his way to Arizona for a few weeks.
  6. Wow, I thought they stopped making those. Several available on ebay for cheap (<100 bux), tho you need to worry about programming. But yes, they are tanks.
  7. That email is old and related to the Mars encounter of 2003: http://www.hoax-slayer.com/mars-earth-close.html There WILL be another close encounter with Mars this year in November: Info Here PLEASE people. Investigate those emails you get before you send them out. A lot of it is bunk.
  8. http://www.boston.com/news/odd/articles/20..._wrong_vehicle/ Firefighters tear apart wrong vehicle July 22, 2005 ALBANY, N.Y. -- Albany firefighters were tearing apart a minivan as part of a training exercise when someone noticed the personal items inside. That's when they realized they had trashed the wrong vehicle. This week, Albany officials approved the city's share of the $12,000 bill for the 2002 Dodge Caravan that was mistakenly ripped open during a drill at a junk yard a year ago. Officials say the firefighters routinely practice accident scene rescue techniques by tearing open donated junked cars. In June 2004, they were supposed to practice on an older vehicle located on another part of junk yard. Instead, they used the Jaws of Life to tear open a three-year-old minivan that was at the business to undergo repairs
  9. JBE, Don't drop it off to WEMS HQ in Kisco. Make sure you call the HR number (914-273-5454x273) and talk to Janet. All applications go through her. You can probably call and setup an appointment so you can drop off your application and CV/resume at the same time, saving you a trip.
  10. Take a look at England some time. I see reports on the EMS list all the time about EMS personnel attacked there.
  11. Seth was last seen carrying a nicely bound Firefighting book around like it was the old testament. (Well, for him, it might as well BE the old testament).
  12. We have stations in White Plains, Sleepy Hollow, and Bronxville. Perhaps one of those would be more suitable for you than Mount Kisco?
  13. Put the Medic4 narcs back Daday.
  14. You probably are lucky. I'd also be willing to bet you don't have ActiveX installed. Search and Destroy has one excellent component: TeaTimer. It's the resident program that keeps things from changing the registry without your knowledge. It's a great way to keep worms and trojans from latching onto your computer. But it is unfortunatly not for the uninitiated. If you have no idea what the popups mean that teatimer brings up, you won't know what to block and what to let through. Otherwise Sbybot has seen it's day in the limelight. Other programs like Ad-Aware are far superior for the less computer literate.
  15. How is MJY's? I stuck my head in there one day and all I saw was the Maitre' D dressed in a tuxedo. I felt underdressed so I left. How was the food? What's the dresscode like? What kind of occasion would you go there for? Causal Dinner or special night out?
  16. This would probably be doable with RSS, but you'd probably have to do some work on your end of things to get it to happen.
  17. He usually relieves me on Wednesday mornings. Somehow I doubt he'll be working his birthday tho. If he were I'd have to administer some birthday punches...er...wishes.
  18. Only recently have anti-virus programs begun detecting some forms of ad/spy-ware, specifically those that qualify as trojans or worms. One of the best things you do to stop spyware is to stop using IE (or even windows) but thats not always possible. If you can, look into a browser called Firefox. IT stops most popups (that are webbased, not trojan based) and is immune to a lot of the crap that can infect your computer (a lot of which makes it's way into your computer through IE and ActiveX flaws). 1) Use FireFox. 2) Update your virus definitions and get a second opinion from online virus scans. Not all virus programs detect all viruses. Try googling for "online virus scan". 3) Install an adware detection program. The previously mentioned MS software and ad-aware are excellent choices. 4) If you still have problems with popups, PM me. Some adware is tough to get rid of and requires specilized help. By your description tho you definatly have a resident program in memory that is causing the popups. This needs to be eliminated for the popups to stop. Firewall are good for blokcing incomming attacks but can't protect you from yourself. The best way to prevent adware is to educate yourself and use your head. Don't play games on free sites unless you know it's reputable. Don't install FREE software unless it's known to not have spyware/adware (Kazaa is notorious for spyware). I can go on forever. If you have questions I'll answer as opposed to ranting on forever. Google for more specific info on how to protect yourself.
  19. I can tell you from my own experience, that this is very true. I went right from EMT class, into Medic class less than a year or two later. I was indeed book smart and had trouble making it all come together in the field. My suggestion for ANY EMT is to wait a bit, get some experience, THEN do medic class. Or even upgrade through EMT-I first.
  20. Happened to tape this report on Live at 5 tonight. Caught it on review. Wish I had capture abilities, or I'd cap it and sned it to anyone who wants it. NBC News Report on AutoPulse at Mohegan Fire
  21. A recent article in EMS Magazine mentioned two studies on the Auto Pulse that seemed to put it in a favorable light. It's only under scrutiny in California after that recent case where a Gentleman died. They must have had a specific reason why they suspected the AutoPulse, that reason just has not been published in detail yet.
  22. Someone probably either ate it or smoked it.... I remember hearing about that fire too.
  23. Is it just me or despite reading all the apparent new threads in a forum, when you return to the main index, it STILL lists that forums as having new unread topics? Must you always exit the forum by marking it as read to have it show up as no new topics?
