Wow. Just.....wow.

SWS did the trucks at WEMS as well. The do quite an excellent job. When you get the truck they include a binder with detailed schematics of the wiring and electrical systems so that a mechanic/tech from another vendor can trace problems down the line if there are any. They outsource thier lettering/art work and the guy does a better job than most vendors they've had in the past (some just downright horrible).

Tell the cops to pull them over and give em a ticket.

I definatly wouldn't have taken her in the back. Front seat maybe and much more likely so. I agree, medic made the right call.

Hearing rumors that Putnam changed ALS providers. Any word on if it's true or not? TIA

Actually, according to the new guidelines you're TECHNICALLY supposed to lift for the analyze, compress during the charge, and lift only long enough to give the shock. Manual or Automated, you go right back into compressions the second after the shock is given and don't even look at the monitor to see if there is a change. AEDs get shut off after the one shock and turned back on 2 minutes later.

Was just down in Myrtle Beach. Nice little town.

The CPR you know and love and were taught is just fine. When you take your next CPR class you will be taught the 30-2 and 100/minute rate. Don't get caught up in the numbers. If you need to do CPR, do it as you were taught. If you want to learn the new ways, I encourage you to take another class, but it's not a must. Just don't be alarmed/confused if someone starts doing it at 30-2 between now and then.

I see the listing of the feeds, but nowhere to actually listen to them. Does one have to register to hear the feed?

Can't find video. Have a better link?

I believe Cos Cob, CT does this. They provide housing At the firehouse for the volunteers so they can answer calls from station. Pound Ridge is similar. The residences for the firefighters are right across the street.

I third that. Hard to believe it's been 9 years. Let's all have a drink in memory of Mike.

I love hearing people b**** and moan at work about how bad the dispatchers are yet have no REAL idea how it works on the other side of the radio/console. I have a lot of patience for diapatchers because I know what it's like (having worked both sides of things). A recent storm put 60 control to the test and they performed awesomely and well above what I'm sure a lot of people expected. Next time you call your dispatch center for times or information, don't be afraid to say thanks.

My services are still available from a redesign perspective. I'd love to get you fitted for a nice CMS (Content Management System) to make it a lot easier to update the pictures/etc.

That right there is justification enough for transport to WMC. Albiet this was in 1996, nowadays we could consider Danbury too. I agree definatly that there are instances of abust when it comes to StatFlight....I can remember a recent one where the helicopter was called to Tarrytown lakes. Think about that one for a minute.

The US team sucks this year honestly. They lost 3-0 against the Chex and tied Italy 1-1 only because Italy scored on themselves. I haven't been following the overall tourney very closely but Brazil is always a favorite. Italy will have to play better if they plan to Win. Germany has been representing well as home team. In related news, for all you Firefox users out there, there is a plugin you can use to track the WC standings and scores with real time updates on gams/goals/penaltys/etc. Check out http://www.mozilla.com/add-ons/jogacompanion/

The Klondike is a nice ship. We used to have annual daytime fishing trips aboard the Klondike in the summer (and hope to rekindle that this year) and it was a good time. The night time is probably cooler and more comfortable for most and the scenery of the Statue and lower Manhattan makes for a great dinner cruise (having been on several out of Manhattan).

Interesting that we are at war in the gulf, yet have three Carriers in the Phillipine Sea. Hmmmm.

Agreed. If the dispatch information comes over as an assault, GSW, riot, unruly crowd, etc etc, then you will be damn sure I'll be sitting on a street corner a few blocks away until the scene is secured. We aren't armed, we aren't trained in restraint, a lot of EMTs don't know simple self defense techniques, and simply put, we don't get paid enough to have the crap kicked out of us (or worse).

First thing I'd ask is why was an EMS crew on scene when it was unsecured by PD?

It is when the government passes law requiring that every sick and injured person be treated regardless of thier inability to pay. Also remember, a lot of hospitals are not-for-profit. Maybe it should be. Look North to Canada. Every Canadian citizen has government sponsored healthcare. Medicines are cheap. People get the care they need. Urgent Care Clinics are a nice thought but it bounces back to the real problem. Public Education. Healthcare as a whole needs to work on educating the general public to better understand what it is we do. If I were an uneducated consumer of healthcare, would I pick a "doc-in-a-box" or an ER when it came to seeking care. You bet I would probably turn to the ER. Some of the blame lies in the MD/DO's hands. They need to tell people that you should see THEM not an ER for more things. PMDs should cosider being able to treat more stuff in thier office. Suturing - how many GPs can suture out of thier office. How many can take simple X-Rays? Etc Etc. Other problems lie in mistreatment or OVERtreatment of patients. Like giving antibiotics for crap they shouldn't be given for (flu being the BIG one). There is no one cure for the healthcare crisis in America. But the government is there to lead - they should be paving the way to a fix. Maybe spending more money on healthcare and less on invading third world countires in the name of "anti-terrorism".

There is a lot of setup required to get a scanner feed going. You generally need to have a good broadband internet connection with a nice wide upstream connection. You also need a network to "broadcast" your feed like Shoutcast and Live365. I highly suggest you read up on the whole idea at Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_radio is a good place to start.

The manufacturers CAN and WILL reprogram the unti to conform to the new 2005 Guidelines. The question is, will they charge to do it, and how much. Actually, there have been multiple documented cases of sucessful rescues with an AED by UNTRAINED people. The fact is they work, and they work well enough for people unfamiliar with them to use.
