I say when your wedding party lines up and you are about to come out at the reception, instead of holding up the bouquets they should make a tunnel of medium board splints. (Too cheesy? )

Prayers for all those effected. Izzy: Just curious why they called Atlantic Air all the way over from Jersey and not one of the StatFlight birds?

I must say, that utility truck is sexy.

I don't condone violence written or real. That said, anyone who posted saying they would induce harm on another for their opinions posted here needs to be booted. Plain and simple and the post deleted. Censorship? Perhaps. But it IS a private board so whatever. I'm not a big fan of censorship in any form but again, whatever. I don't agree with the idea of nuking the entire darned thread. That's all I have to say about that.

Doesn't take a genius to figure out who is pulling the strings on this one.

Where did the topic about BLS ambulances responding to emergencies go?

2nd what jack said. Get a router and put it between your existing computer that has the optonline, and optonline "modem". The function of the router is to route communications to/from multiple computers inside the house. As far as optonline is concerned, it's still serving one computer. As mentioned, wires is best because you don't suffer from any bandwidth bottlenecks or interference from things like microwaves/cordless phones/distance issues. IF you do go the wireless route, make sure you SECURE YOUR WIRELESS. Routers can be hooked up with default settings but that usually means no wireless security, which means any idiot can park in front of your house and leech your internet access. Netgear and D-Link seem to make good stuff lately. Linksys has kinda gone downhill since it's acquisition by Cisco - I'd only go with one of them if you plan to flash the router with third party software (DD-WRT) - but that's a bit advanced for what you want/need. If I had to pick one brand, it would be netgear. Check out Newegg.com. Good prices, free shipping on many items, good customer service, no sales tax in NYS (eat it Albany).

Same you do with any MCI. Transportation officer should be reaching out to the area hospitals to see how many criticals and stables they can take and dole them out appropriately. Other units coming from separate incidents could then be notified like always if the ER finds themselves in the thick. Just like the EMS system in the field, the EMS system in the ER should be able to handle swells in activity. Call in additional units (floaters from other floors, on call staff, supervisors, etc) and handle the volume until it subsides. Ambulances don't get to go on diversion, why should receiving facilities? Maybe we can have hospitals post a DEFCON status. The worse they get the lower the number goes.
-
I personally, think hospitals should not go on diversion unless there is some major internal disaster (someone holding up the ER with a gun, fire, etc). What they SHOULD have is advisories. If an ER is overwhelmed with patients and truly feel that bringing more will be detrimental to care, then send out an advisory to EMS in the field so they can take that under advisement and make a more informed transportation decision. Ive actually been in overly crowded and hopping ERs and nexteled my coworkers to advise them that that particular ER is jammed and they might be interested in going to the next available ER if they can. Too many hospitals drop the diversion word and expect it to be the solution to all their crowding problems, then get mad when we show up yelling that they're on diversion without realizing the policies that EMS crews follow. Just a thought.

Is Santa's outfit NFPA compliant?

I didn't get a Harrumph out of that guy!

I have to ask. How DOES one stop a giant ladder truck that is "careening" down a steep hill when your brakes have failed?

You just described Westchester to the T. All that's left is "er" (prounounced "errrrrrrr").

Mailing address is Elmsford. Physical address is Greenburgh. Associated address is Valhalla - just like the medical center and WCC which it sits right between. It's way far from White Plains. I don't recall anyone EVER saying The Cabin is in White Plains. (Until now. Thanks for that.) Never say never. (Ooops)

Got pics? How about this one? http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/news/freeze_frame/index.php/2009/11/11/hub-billboard-has-drivers-doing-doubletake/

Doesn't source capture only work half the time? Works great when leaving, but when backing in (from what I have seen) it is not used & not hooked up until the vehicle is parked. PS....why is this in the EMS forum?

Good question, for which I don't have the exact answer. The Transcare page setup seemed to imply that it was in the area of 350.
-
The estimates are that about 350 or so employees were eligible to vote. I'd say 226 of them (64%) is a pretty good turn out. That's better than voter turn out for presidential elections which averages 50-60%. For some reason the union guy (Matt Levy) claims to be confident that the election results will be "thrown out" and there will be another election. I'd be interested to know why he thinks that. If the employees have spoken and don't want the union, then why discard their decision?
-
Similar incident happened a few years ago at HVHC. A guy got impatient waiting to be seen at the ER so he hopped into one of the paramedic trucks and drove it down to NYC (I think he wanted to go to the Bronx VA). I've always been big on locking my truck since half a set of ALS gear went missing from an Abbey truck at United hospital back in the 90s. (Not mine)

For those interested, the IAEP lost the organization vote in the NYC: 99 FOR 127 AGAINST
-
Well since this thread is about Unions, and prompted by the Transcare stuff, I'll ask the following: What were the results of the IAEP unionization vote made by NYC 911 Transcare employees? The votes were due to be opened and read today.
-
I read the site that Transcare setup and it has some pretty compelling arguments for their point of view. I tried (in vain) to find an opposing view from IAEP. Even the Local 20 site that served Empress is no longer available (the account apparently is suspended). If I were a voting member of the TC workforce, I'd find it hard to vote FOR a union that doesn't seem to be doing much. I'd love to hear/read/see the point of view from the IAEP/Union side of things. What has IAEP done for the employees at Empress? I've seen EMS unions come and go (anyone remember the Teamsters at A-1?) and most don't seem to offer any return for the money spent my the employees in the form of union dues.

I'd be willing to bet that Alamo told Millbrook to sign with Transcare because the TC buyout of Alamo was only a month away and it would save them the hassle of having to change the contract.
