  1. Not the same thing
  2. Blah blah blah. So many of these threads and so little productivity out of them. I have to travel one of the densest stretches of highway in Dutchess County to get to the firehouse, I've never ran anyone off the road and my one front facing blue light has dust on it from it's last use and at this point was a waste of $200. I still make the rig every time and I hit wayyy too many calls. At what point are you buying blue and red lights truly for safety reasons and at what point are you just getting off on lights and sounds. I don't think as a company officer I'd want anyone getting out of their POV with the brakes smoking and 5000 lights going off and getting in an engine and driving myself and my crew.
  3. 45 Ft?? Our dual axle 110' ladder truck is only 42'!
  4. Hate to miss it but this year it is the same weekend as the company dinner. I may have to blow that off to take Strategy and Tactics though. Montour is a better learning environment than locally, even at DC weekend
  5. Mickey Mantle didn't wear a batting helmet, what a jerk! I get what the point of the original poster is and it is valid. But I also see where the other people are coming from. At the risk of sounding corny...I've had the honor of following that officer in to a burning building and the pat on the back and "Good job, son" after it was over is one of the high points of my short career and something I'll never forget. Regardless of your intentions, things like this can get misconstrued as an indictment of a single person. And it's just not right to put that on someone in public. Things are missed in the heat of the moment all the time and while it doesn't make them right, every little thing can't be QB'd from the armchair. I agree with the clipper...Let's discuss why the vollies aren't showing up and how stop them from laying off the career men. "Oh, these things have waist straps?" - clipper
  6. If I'm not mistaken, I think that is 63-83 (or 82), the new cascade truck.
  7. http://www.poughkeepsiejournal.com/apps/pb...D=2008811180314 Anyone know what this article means? Are they planning on shutting down BVAC?
  8. Am I missing something? BVAC isn't an ALS provider....
  9. Which engine are you getting rid of, the Freightliner or the E-one?
  10. It's dispatched by fire district. Having Alamo to half and MLSS to half is no more wasteful or inefficient than having 4 fire districts in the town.
  11. I got to see this in person the other day...what a beautiful truck. I love the look of the Sutphens and I think their 100' is a lot better than the 95's with the bucket being level to the deck, not hanging low, easier access to ladder tunnel and hose bed. Good luck with it.
  12. I like that SCBA idea a lot. We only have 4 for 5 riders and a driver. Everybody doesn't need to talk on the radio, really just the officer, but I would hate to get in to trouble (god forbid) and not have a way of calling distress.
  13. That brings up a good point. I've had a few times driving the ambulance going to MVAs where a cop has pulled up behind me on a two lane road and I know that he can (and would like to) go faster than me but I wasn't really sure what the etiquette was. Same thing driving the engine with the ambulance behind me.
  14. I don't think anyone is in the streets praying, nothing wrong with being prepared though.
  15. No disrespect to the guys on the job, it's not their fault, but the mutual aid to places like City of Newburgh and Poughkeepsie (and I'm sure Westchester has it too) is just a way for city hall to avoid staffing these career departments the way they should be. Those two cities involve up to 5 other departments on "routine" fires
  16. Is that Middle Hope's truck in that picture?
  17. Both my Survivor and my Vulcan Streamlights have broken. They fixed it for free but it was still a pain mailing it to them. I still think the Vulcan is way better than the Lite Box though
  18. I agree, and I know (in my inexperienced and open mind) that I can get my coat and SCBA on, get the pump set and get on the line in a reasonable amount of time if I have a skeleton crew or a standpipe operation
  19. Wearing an SCBA at the panel. Wow don't know what to say. I guess we'll tell the chief to also. Personal preference at least pants, maybe coat on after arrival but don't drive with it on.
  20. Whats with all the mutual aid questions? 3 Engines, Truck, Rescue, FAST. Seems like a pretty reasonable assignment for the size of the building. Joe, I heard the 5" was jumping out in front of Hyundais again just like on Mesier
