  1. FASNY might not ever change but that doesn't stop agencies from starting probationary firefighters with Firefighter 1 and then awarding full interior member status when 229 equivalent (or similar adopted standard) is acheived. Can't blame that on FASNY. Not training your people isn't being easy on them, it's putting them in danger.
  2. I don't understand how anyone over 5'6" would enjoy being in a Charger, but to each his own.
  3. Fog and a smoothbore on the ladder pipe?
  4. Does that replace the tiller or the tower?
  5. Sorry Kool Aiders, this is all your GOP pals holding this up. Sooner you realize neither party has our interest in mind the better we'll be
  6. I always said this same thing, Dan! If you'll throw a fire chief in jail for 1403, why not a mayor for 1710? I've read every report on NIOSH's website and not one was attributed to 11 year old leather helmets. But many were staffing and supervision. Barry you're right and I wish the the bean counters would catch on. I was interviewed by OSHA at a random inspection of an agency I'm no longer affiliated with. They asked how we follow 1910.134. I told them we don't. They asked how we followed 1910.146. I told them we didn't. They wrote down notes furiously. The next day I got an email from the department head congratulating us on getting a 100% on our OSHA inspection. It's a joke.
  7. I'm just glad someone admitted gold leaf is a waste of money and for that we thank you.
  8. We have some of our busiest intersections pre-empted and it works great. I wish we had a lot more. The Town of Poughkeepsie backs the three FDs strongly on demanding developers install preemptors at their cost. It's also very hard to get hit if you come to a complete or near complete stop
  9. I had a rear wheel drive Charger as a rental car for 3 weeks in the winter and I had to park it and get a ride because it couldn't make it up the hill in front of my apartment with a dusting.
  10. I really don't care about the age, if they needed new trucks I believe them, they run their asses off. I'm just wondering tactically if they preferred the SUV to the pick up with cap
  11. Yet another embattled department in the same town/city area doing extraordinary work with minimal to barely there manpower. No matter how bad the journal and the vocal minority try to cut us down we always get the job done. Nice job guys.
  12. We went down without hesitation, slept on cots, sat in the dark, ate PB&J for four days, cleaned the firehouses, ran many calls. I took a bunch of pictures. There was damage that hasn't been seen in many years, if ever and going down and being able to help was an honor and a privilege that I'll never forget. I took the photos to remember it. The firefighters and residents were extremely grateful to see us and took pictures with us.
  13. We fueled up at Nassau County DPW in Westbury.
  14. 3 guys on first due 32-11, 2 on second due 32-14. First due truck 32-46 out of service. Next due AFD piece from Red Oaks Mill across town. Did a phenomenal job for having 1 MPO 1 officer 1 FF on arrival.
  15. Amenia and Hughsonville 45-55. Was told last night Arlington 32-45 and New Hamburg 53-45 were going but can't confirm. Claverack (Columbia) sent an engine.
  16. ....
  17. There are tons of cases where personal feelings change alarm assignments and that is categorically wrong. But it is also true that your next door neighbor isn't always the best crew for the job. You have to factor in training and manpower. While we're beating the dead horse, if NYS would step up to the plate and make a universal standard to be a firefighter we could avoid this. Sorry for the suggestion, FASNY.
  18. I understand that, but I only see two tower ladders...
  19. ? What stick?
  20. I disagree here. First off, going from Michigan to Wappingers is hardly a "free trip across the country that anyone would want to do." It's a 13 hour trip in a large truck and when you get there, plan on sleeping in a cheap motel, eating Denny's and working 18 hour days in the tree and snow covered roads and rights of way that accompany power outages. Second, they do not get paid way more than those in the fire service, unless of course you include volunteers.
  21. Dan, I caught this today crossing Mill @ Catherine. The answer to who cares? They had a Sanford and Son packed with enough lights to make the biggest volly jealous and shot across three lanes of high speed traffic, and for what? It's unfortunate that someone died but there's no hurry, that situation isn't changing, and it's wrong to risk putting other people in said hearse over it.
