JM15-- some departments are way ahead of the curve--some are a little behind the 8 ball--some departments try and are inhibited by elected personel,some departments are inhibited by their own officers and chiefs. The fire world is not like it used to be--you need intelligent capable fire officers with an eye to the future not an eye looking over their shoulder to view the past. Just because you did it one way for 50 years dosent make it right. "Times they are a changing", Laws are there to protect us, elected officials in all towns and villages should be taking note as to what happened in Tarrytown and what is going to happen in Tarrytown. Bad decisions just might end up in tragic events.

The fact of the matter is the Rebublicans want the tax cut for the wealthy and arent afraid to hold us hostage--yes hostage. Nothing will get done untill the tax package is passed. it seems like it dosent matter to them that the increase of 700 billion to the debt is ok. Wait just wait till next year when they start with we have to cut Social security or priviatize it, have to cut health benifits, cut unemployment because it will drive up the debt. have a training "geek"fest at the fire house have some refreshments and invite firefighters to come and share their vids with you. That might work

"To sleep with the angels" is a wonderfull book for firefighters to read. It tells the story of the fire and of the firefghters efforts to make the rescues and how the lives were effected.It should be on everyfirefighters book shelf.

It ends when people grow up and realize that the sandbox is for everyone. Play togeather or go find another sand box. Politics aside the Chief went against a direct order form his immidiate boss. Enough said right there.

has the fire service gone biserk or what. That fire Chief has a boss--it happens to be the mayor of the town. That elected official is the responsible party and is the one that is held accountable. although it may be cute it is not approate for a village owned piece of apparatus.

This was a well written article. Mr.Bleau was distanceing the Village from the incident but when all is said and done its the Village of Tarrytown that will be held responsible for the incident. All parties were acting under the umbrella of either the village hiway or as village firefighters.Finger pointing at this early stage of the investigation only causes more friction. Mr Bleau's timeing of the press confrence left a lot to be desired. The firefighters and the Village needed time to mourn---there will be pleanty of time to find out what really happened and how it happened. Let the wounds heal. Tarrytown lost 2 firefighters. and I knew both of them pretty well.

There have been many "studies" conducted over the years as to consolidateing the fire districts.... it aint happening.! Greenville(Edgemont)same meets and bounds, will leave the Town of Greenburgh before that happens. Edgemont feels that consolidation will hurt them and not improve response times or increase manpower to that area. Do I dare speak of what might be consolidiated next?? hmmm the School districts--you getting the picture here. Commissioners and Fire Districts hold a lot of power it might take more the Paul Feiner to make it happen. Truth be told--this all started when the former Police Chief found out that he was the lowest paid "Chief" in the Town of Greenburgh. At that time all three Fire Chiefs were making more then the former police chief. He was the leader of apx 120 police Officers and apx 30 plus square miles and none of the Fire Chiefs had anywhere that many firefighters or that big of a response area. Fire Districs can not be just disolved-votes have to be taken--Commissioners will lose their positions, expensive new apparatus might be moved---you get the picture. Contracts would have to be worked out---work schedules taked into concideration. The list goes on and on and so will the meetings.

First and formost condolences to the families nothing we can say will be able to bring back your loved ones. A tragic thing for any fire department to go through. Every year we see this unfold befor our eyes and every year we are sad, 100 firefighters dies each and every year, one of the things we can do to bring this number down is LEARN form the unforseem situations. When you are behind the wheel of a fire apparatus drive like your life depends on it---cause it just might. Apparatus and POV accidents account for over 25% of firefighter deaths.

2353--the Woking Lt did an excellent job-- limited manpowwer on the initial call--16 stores with common cockloft, tough for any department,mutual aid was the right call form the very begining, manpower was needed in a hurry. You can always say why they were there but hard to explain why they arent. With no IC-- no village manager,only the police--and they were very helpful. All involved should be commended. All the mutual aid companies worked hard to contain this to the store of orgin. 60 control handled this properly and efficently.

Rob Pleases accespt our sincere condolances from Eileen and I.Bruce was a charming--whitty--knowledgble firefighter and individual. I remember him well at State conventions that he was a voice of reason when other were yelling and loseing thier cool. Billy thats an easy question to answer---I have seen it many times over my firefighting/union career. They get first bite and have sharp teeth. We have to scramble--like WPFD is doing now to counter them. Someone told me long ago, that there are smart people on the other side and someone tells them---just do it we can litigate it later hmmm lawyers I believe. No matter what municipalities have deep pockets and we donot.

I can tell you that in '72 when I came on the job--it was part of the interview--dont quote me but it went something like-- We know you will be working long hours--weekends---holidays-- and the pay isnt great but you will be part of the fire family and we always take care of our own even after you retire.
