Aggreing with als is common in here -George Burk USAF RET is a great motovational speaker he is a sole survivor of a plane crash and burned over 70 % of his body his book"A Bridge Never Crossed" is well worth the reading. There are countless number of speakers out there --learn form their experience.

some of the photos were taked at the Yonkers Raceway for a fun raiser for the Burn Center apx 1975=76. all the fire services rallied and raised money for the county to start the center.

down main street over the railroad bridgr head back toward the boat club. first right headed toward the river.

Heres a quote from the seminar that was conducted on Sat at Harthorne which by the way was very good. " KILL THE FIRE OR IT WILL KILL YOU" You guys are right on the money Get em trained keep em trained.Depatments need to move foward. Stop all the old stuff no more whining--theres no place for whining in the fire service. dont say you cant get the training--believe me its there Westchester has done over 70 courses so far this yr. If the courses you want arent there--have your training office ask for them. The CFI's are ready and willing to help a department has to do is ask. See you monday

to add to als in olden days stations were located at the place where the horses galllop ended. and another piece of history--- the dalmation was there not for rescue or to smell the fire it was there to run along side the horses to nip at the heels of the horses to make them run faster. just my 2 cents

and all this time I thought it was where the probies go when their makes fall below 90!!!

New York Fiefighters Burn Center Foundation President Jim Curren passed away this morning after a long battle with cancer. Jim was an inspiration to all firefighters in New York City as well as the country. He wil be missed by all that knew him. When I was forming BurnCare EveryWhere Foundation Inc. Jim was just the encourgement that I needed to get it moving. Always with a smile on his face and a hug for every one--may god bless him and may he be in peace finally. Walter Ferguson Director BurnCare EveryWhere Foundation Inc.

We've worked them pretty hard over the last few days. As for next week......... LIVE FIRES!!!!!!!! monday half the class at White Plains half at Scarsdale. tues- train fires with trip to Croton Metro North Rail Yard. Wed ohhh no....D/C Gerardi back with last day of PUMPS----get those calculators out. thurs hmm let me see maybe car fires with water then foam evolutions. ohh and FRI more LIVE burns this time in Dutchess County---road trip for every one!!!!" Sounds like a full week!

Dont you just love the way alsfirefighter puts things!!!! dont ever hold back!! tell it like it is the mask is there to protect you and you and you. Fire Chiefs should lead by example, training officers the same thing make them wear the masks. Do some research find out the latest cancer rates among firefighters then see if you still want to take that mask off. Tell the Department Doctor to get you a few pics of a lung or stomach or a throat that has been ravaged by a cancer that firefighters are prone to get, then see if you want to take that mask off. just my 2 cents

ok ok maybe some departments have lost a day or 2 during the year.Scheduling can be a problem at times. Please dont take this the wrong way I dont want to offend any one nor am I criticizing any department--- but training so you can say you trained isn't training, you have to use the latest training tools and devices along with updated teaching methods. The County has spent a lot of money to update the Training Center and is investing more money into Capital projects for even more improvements. Just a thought maybe the money could be used to send firefighters to State or FEMA courses reimburse the members who earn a certificate. There are a lot a department can do to improve them selves Again I dont mean to critize any department but I have seen a lot of "firefighters" that dont know the adz end of a ax from a pike pole, never mind knowing firefighter safety and survival
-
sounds like a winner seminar to me-- "get em trained--keep em trained"
-
Just remember ther will be a test the day I return to class!!! I will be thinking about all my probies while I am on the beach in Aruba---yea right!!! somewhere between the beach, the pool, the tiki hut and the casino. enjoy the week with LTVan Voorhies and D/C Gerardi if thats possible. make sure you look at the memorial in Albany and remember all the survival skills. Good luck on your monday test. To all keep up the great work you are doing. Firecapt32

apparently all are scheduled to return to the fire academy for the next class. what's more disturbing is that the first week 14 could not pass the run and were dropped. " GET EM TRAINED KEEP EM TRAINED"
-
OK OK listen up all interested in a firefighter 2 call your training officer in your department ohhhhhh you dont have one??? mabey you should!!!! OKOK no training officer?? Have your chief call the training center ask when the next ff2 class is scheduled believe me this is a case of ask and you shall be answered!!!! just remember firefighters must have passed a recent physical and are capable of waring a SCBA ohhhh no physicals??? hmmmm better get them "GET EM TRAINED KEEP EM TRAINED"
-
apparently I'm not working the probie class hard enough if some of them have enough time to come in here!!! I will have to up the homework or raise the demerits??? which should it be???
