  1. thanks for aggreeing HFD750 it only seems reasonable to use the english language. working fire--fillout the asigement is plain and simple-- give me a second alarm simple enough--- it shoujd work fine unless we in the servive find some way to f*** it up
  2. 4-4 your the only one on the class that got a excellent in promtness---no one got there before you. be safe firecapt 32
  3. Im sure the boys were ready to do what they had to do---- 450 hours of training will make you ready.
  4. well lets see als we have now told them that it will end April 1 2006 how many intermediate class do you thing we will have to schedule to meet the demand?? pick a number ?? my guess hmmmm talk to you later
  5. heres my 2 cents lets all go back to sensable common terms and plain english language. the time has come to stop discuising things... if its a working fire--- tell every one-if its food you need tell every one. I believe that the codes were created so that the general public didnt know what was going on. well that time has come and gone. lets not confuse any one any more if its a car fire tell every one. we will all be better off.
  6. This is getting teary--let me know when you guys get a fire!!! dont worry about the armchair x i can only sit in it so long before the itch comes back and i have to scratch it. When all else fails--revert back to your training---it back ther some place believe me. Seth, you and Kittle derserved the award. You motiviated the class-made us laugh, and you still did all the things you were supposed to.
  7. let me add my congradulations to the class --it was a very exciting expericence for me--trying at times- its hard to make a good product now adays. but you all survived, C.P.A.T. the testing-- the long hard days of cfrd--the meltdown in codes but we came through all of us as better firefighters/ better instructors and just better citizens of the world. it was my honor to be part of the class-- all I did was put the puzzle togeather and made sure the pieces fit in the right places. may the gods be with class 01-2005 on every alarm that they go on. be safe men remember: WHEN YOU GET IN A TOUGH SITUATION REMEMBER YOUR TRAINING FIRECAPT32
  8. well I guess its my turn to the class 03-2005 you exceeded academy standards-- there were times that even I thought that we might lose one or two of you. but you stood togeather and overcame the obsticales in front of you. you truly became brothers-- all 37 of you shouuld be proud to be called firefighters. As I stated in my remarks yesterday all the instructors only had one set of instructions from me: " INSTRUCT THEM AS IF THEY WERE WORKING IN YOUR DEPARTMENT AND THEY WERE WORKING WITH YOU TOMORROW" After listening to Brother Cool yesterday you know what that means. To all congratulations your respective departments have just improved. be safe/stay low/ may the gods be with you on every alarm. remember you are there to protect lives and property do the right thing. e mail me after your first fire-- dont call Im going back into retirement for a while!!!! you guys know how to get in touch I still have the name tags firecapt32
  9. if i wasent so tired for the probie graduation today id enter into this discuession but right now i have to bond witih my easy chair.
  10. ohh boy is homer going to be upset when he read this. hes a smart man and knows a lot of things.
  11. Dont worry about larry by this time next month he will be with the other old people-----in flordia!!!! sorry larry had to get that shot in cause in jelouse!!!
  12. how about this survey how many departments really do have annual physicals with mask fit tests and pulmamoury function tests. most of you do but how do we get complience from the others?? is that where our numbers are coming from?? also responding and returniong from alarm seem to be a big contribuator to the deaths im sure theres soomthing we can do about that. just my thoughts the citizens we protect deserv the best so lets be there for them
  13. Again als is on top of his game-- to all of you remember the mail mans motto about rain and snow get through just be carefull. The citixens you protect deserv the best so be ther for them done do anything stupid to quots a old police show" be careful out there"
  14. you better check the law---yes there are laws that even fire chiefs have to follow. I do believe it is a conflict esp when money is concerned.
  15. How do we get our departments to inhance our training--inother words how do we make a better product--ie fire officer. We have seen that many departments have no rhyme or reason as to how a mamber becomes a officer while other departments have strict policies. why such a difference in one county?? just thought i would ask
  16. als nothing like telling it like it is!!!! The citizens we protect deserve the best nothing less will do. The better the officer is trained the better they are to their community and to the service.
  17. I have just read in fire engeneering about testing for volunteer officers do you think its a good idea?? some sort of national test for officers on the same level as national testing for firefoghter one and two??
  18. where do I begin on this subject-----the article is right the. volunteer service needs more training. The question is how do we get them trained? New York is basicly starting form the begining with firefighter one and firefighter two. Do you realize that there are still fire departments in Westchester that do not require State Training. shame on them The volunteer service does its sellf a diservice but makeing the standards lower for them selves. sorry guys but you do-- when the firefighter one and two were being developed the Vol Organizations fought tooth and nail to keep the standards to a bare minium plain and simple. Thats why we are lacking behind other States. Do I think 78 Hours is enough no I dont but its a start. Career firefighter by State law must have a minium of 229 hours during their probationary period. Police officers by State law require almost 300 hours if not more. why does the Volunteer service, at lease the Alabny organization, want to hold you to just the minium?? As for Classes at teh County level and State level-- the county is in the process of adding more County Fire Instructors. and adding at least one more state Instructor. Keep pushing for more classes, keep the traing center alive with quality training--- we need a better product--the people we protect deserve it.
  19. hey what about me!!!!! als has been aninspiration to all of us i have seen his work up close and personal. my hat goes off to you.
  20. sometimes when we try it falls on deaf ears. way too many times do we hear we do it this way in our depratment been doing it that way for 50 yrs why do we need to change?? well your not driving a 50 yr old car are you. some departments just have to move into the new century and I do nt mean just with apparatus either. If departments just moved ahead I know the past offers a loook into the future but you have to get to the future first dont be stuck in the past. If that happens Officers will emerge and lead and not just be a position on a chart in some chiefs car.
  21. thats what i was thinking he might need a fall back position.
  22. P.F.F. 1-3 a bully?? I better start paying more attention. all I seem to be doing these days is making sure all the paper work is in order so you guys can get to where you are going. It is a close group of P.F.F.'s and that will stay with them through out their career. The chant is loud and clear , the bond is growing stronger every day, the professionalism is showing more and more. And the top spot academicly is up for grabs---did you hear that 211- its too close to call the last 2 tests will determine that academic leader but all of them should be proud of what they have accompolished over the last 12 weeks. see you all on monday for a new 50 question test
  23. after 12 weeks i am finally catching on.
  24. Homer---Als--- I think some one is a** kissing in here.whats he doing out at 2130 hours on a school night. He should be home studying. who was working?? It wasent you homer was it??
  25. als- you will always be remembered for being there for this class and for me. I will forever be in your debt because you have extened yourself both for me and for the 37 probies that now have some of your knowledge, skills and expertises. for the next 20 years or better they carry some of your knowledge with them into all the sisuations that come before them. It is because of you and because of the other instructor that hopefully they will become better firefighters then we were--- thats all we can ask. Improvement of the product. All I asked of the Instructors in this Academy was " INSTRUCT THEM AS IF THEY WERE GOING TO YOUR DEPARTMENT AND YOU WERE GOING TO BE WORKING WITH THEM TOMORROW"
