Thats ok ALS we can disagree on things-- we are a service organization and the public is our costumer. I just dont think I'd put a firefighter in that position. How many plumbing call have we been to over the years? God I shoud write a book but no one would read it but ALS!!! okok mabey Hudson would but after that I.m not sure. Im sitting laffing at all the "service" calls I have been on over the years. Been some pretty funny ones. mabey in annother post I will tell some.

this is getting interesting now!!!! glad als got his post in---always love the way he has with words-- Hudson your just foloicly challanged if that a word!! last post for me on the subject No facial hair more then one days growth for any State Training. There isnt a State Fire Instructor that will violate that policy. If "What ever" F.D. wants to allow beards it falls under AHJ authority having jourisdiction. Just dont come crying when something hits the fan.

Johnny vv what a great subject i think you might have hit a nerver or 2 in here.homer glad to see your back writing havent herd you in a while. I believe and feel free to correct me if im wrong but the State says no more then "one days growth" for firefighter one. Interior firefighter's have no place waring beards that went out 100 yrs ago we invented masks to protect us from the hazzards of fire. how simple can it get. I havent heard any one saying I like sandles so i'm not waring boots?? ohh wait i have my fav basball cap on I dont need a helmet. get the pic where alsfirefighter on this subject??

I DONT THINK SO. OHH and to add to the mix a car just ran into our $900,000.00 ladder truck and we need a ambulance you guys getting the picture yet?? but it is a cool pic

I aggree with capt 36 when in doubt open up. never leave the home owner with any doubt. They should have shut off the breaker, opened the outlet, capped the wires at least, looked behind the outlet for any extension.

What a great topic Im glad things havent changed over the years. yes fireqt you are a fire house brat have know members of your family since before you were born, and respect every one of them. I on the other hand can still remember going on the fire house as a kid with my father, seeing all the guys helping when ever they would let me. So it does become "in your Blood". I am now entering into my 40th year in the fire service, as a volunteer, career firefighter, and now a State fire Instructor. I remember day one when i was sworn in as a volunteer, day one as a career firefighter, day one sworn in as a fire Officer and the last day of career service. They are all in my memory bank forever.

Just to show you guys I have a funny side--bird flu is hitting europe pretty hard--they are killing a lot of chicken because of it. Before it hits here we should see where the best chicken wings are: My westchester favorite is the Candle lite on Central Ave Whats your?

annual testing right now includes a e.k.g. and pulmanary function test. thats should do for now. yes i agree there are some older people that can run rings around others-- are they the exception--probably. The fire ground is no place for a person with diminished reflexes/slow timeing/ and les the quick thinking. Lives depend on all of thoses things. Lets hear more form you guys. Izzy I hope you are in the fire service for a long time and have a happy healthy length of service, live long enough to see your childern's childern. but remember ther does come a time to sit back and emjoy life.

some need a return address on them!!! should have department and name at least. My father told me long ago, wise man that he was, chief NTFD 1968, always know who you are going into a building with, always know who is on your line, that way you know who's a** to kick if something happens. well it went something like that but you get the point. And I always remembered.

most career departments the age of retirement is between 62 and 65. One of the reasons that career department have a 20 yrs retirement is because it is a demanding job. Your health is the most important thing you have other then the love of you life partner. Id some how rather find my grandfather dead in bed at 78 then have someone tell me he got hit by a car directing traffiic at some accident scene. like the 78 yr old firefighter did last month. The elderly are wonderfull people, I wanna get ther my self one day but there has to come a time... giev them a dinner, give them a gold badge, just dont let them be active firefighters, Thats my story and im sticking ot it.

It is with regret that we read again for the, at least third time this year, that we have lost a firefighter over the age of 65. Two were well into their seventies--these guys should be spoiling their grandchildren, instead we are mourning their loss. The fire service is always grateful for the time a person spends protecting the lives and property of the community in which they live or work, but dont you think their comes a time to "hang up the spikes" so to speak. Does your department have a top age for responding?? should it?? just asking- as we remember another fallen hero in our service.
