May his family find peace in the thought and prayers of firefighters all over that mourn for his soul. This is a dangerous profession that we choose to be involved with, we just pray every day that we get home safely.
-
today is a day to reflect on that day and remember what happened--- a brother firefighter lost his life. a firefighter that we all knew didnt come home to his family that day---too many times this has happened . Have we learned?? still over 100 firefighters die each year. Lets all take this time to re-evulate our departments sop's- sog' and keep each other safe. Im sure Mike and his family would love that thought.
-
weeeohhh now you guys are humming Dave tfd you say you lost a mamber years ago I to remember thatincident.. nothing has changed are there any SOPS about riding apparatus?? NEVR repete NEVER ride the back step period exclamiation point .! dont do it if you do get thrown out of your department for being stupid. every department should have SOPS or SOG concerning this, if they are not followed eliminate the member. tought day with the probies--- I come back to earth after graduation.
-
yes this has been kicked around before. but worth kicking again it wasent long aga a department had a young firefighter fal off the apparatus after the compnay had won a trophy. it was relivent then and it is again today, do not ride on the back step of a apparatus its that simple fast or slow if theres no seat no go. get it!!! lets not lose another firefighter in this country for being stupid---- but then again" you cant fix stupid"

Every Fire Department in New York should be in the "Stand Down". Lowering the deaths of firefighter's is everyone's job and should be on everyone's mind when they respond, when they train, when they are even thinking. There is no reason in the world why we lose so many firefighter in the line of duty. We dont lose them in fires-- 25% are responding to and from alarms. 10 to 15 % are health related-- not being in condition to do the job. Lets get the number lowered and do it quickly as of today the Fire Administration has listed 42 deaths this year. We need to get the number lower and lower. Be safe--Be carefull- god bless the fire service and our members

Way to go VV. Scene Support has been asked for by the Chief's. It's intended to give those members, not interior firefighters, some training so they can be usefull on the fire ground. It's a bridge into firefighter 1, it's actually the first four lessons. AS VV stated Westchester has produced more FF1 classes then any other county in the State. More are on the schedule-- stay tuned. all other classes are on the schedule or in the process of being assignes Instructors. This training center is yours to take advantage of--ask any they wil help any department set up what they feel they need in training. I have suggested to departments to set up "department nights, or department days on weekends". just my thoughts

Is in it amazing that being a EMT for the State of New York you have to have CME'S or retest every few years but if your a firefighter--there is no testing either to belong to a vol organization or to continue in the service. there are no skills testing ,no exams. no mandates just my thoughts not bashing any one or organization

I have known Former Chief John Garrison most of my adult life--- from my youth at the Y.M.C.A. to my years of fire service . There wasent a more respected man in the Tarrytown Fire Department. A gentleman all the time-- always a hello -- always a glad to see you--always a have a nice day. There should be more men like John in the world and in the fire service. truley he wilbe missed by the citizens of Tarrytown and the Tarrytown Fire Department. Rest in peace John

There you go VV only when the departments mandate training will the quality of the officers go up. IM sure if the general public knew how inexperienced the fire service really is there would be a uprising. Im not saying this is the case for all departments-- but mabey some departments should spend more money on training and making sure their men/women are trained righ then they do on parades, not that pardes arent important but well they actualy arent important. you wanna show off you apparatus and your equipment and men, do it with deparmental drill in your town let the people see what you are really doing. hard day with the probies sorry for rambling. graduation is in 3 weeks then i will be back to my normal self.
-
ther should be more of you guys jumping in on this subject come on men--lets hear form you. ALS all i know is I dont have them.
-
do you think it just might be coming from lack of experience on the officers part. Are we electing inexperienced officers-- wait i better say lack of training on the officers part. I know I will be hearing from a lot of you guys on that but-- what qualifications are there. Career officers attend First line supervisors class ,one month of training in new york city-- you cant ask for better training then that. the Vol service on the other hand dosent have any, I am not repeate NOT making this a VOL VS Career. It all has to do with training and experience. lets face it Career Officers are in the position a lot longer, there for get more experience, there is mandatory training(Career 100 Plus )every yr. Vol officers get elected every yr or every 2 yrs. can you tell I have had a long day with the probies graduation is june 30.

nm54 says a lot in in the entry--here it is ina nut shell "TRAIN YOUR MEN." all firefighers should have survival thats a must!!!! do not let them enter a building with out giving them the skills to get out of trouble. As far as FAST goes train you own department first get them fast ready -- then worry about the County. Protect your own first.

firefighter Giampapa wil be missed by all that knew him. Firefighter heven now has one more firefighter that has met an untimely death. Life is too short so enjoy every minute--I know Santo did.
-
our military past and present should always be honored for it is through them that we are able to do the things we do today. fight with the leaders that get us into wars not those that lay down there lives to protect us. when called upon they do what theyare trained to do-- just like us firefighters.
-
congratulations to both of you---no wonder you havent had time to come visit you have been a busy man.
-
Fine example of rememebring all that you have been taught--it comes back to you. if you have never done it---how can you remember it?? get trained ===get certified training==== get it soon
-
there you go hudson!!! what a concept mabey there is someting in the water for the dogs!!! good luck!!
-
why are you allupset?? we elect people every year to positions they know nothing about. even presidents!!!! so it shouldnt come as a complete surprise that some one dosent know a lot about a position. But they are the elected officials ---elected to run the fire district--the whole fire district up to and including who the chief is. im sure that it is in their charge whenthey take the oath of office. the secratery (sorry for the spelling) is a civilian not a miltary person same for the navy. out president never saw combat, neither did the vice president-- so again whats the surprise. just my thoughts
-
im sure that will be his new full time position. good luck rob and joe
-
another death another tragic lose for the fire service. last 2 deaths 61 and 62 yrs old one about to retire. may they rest in peace and find a safe place in the fire heaven.
-
hoss when you cruise there is a clock over the exit to the gangway it has the time---thats the ships clock---when the capt tellyou the ship leaves at 5 pm its ships clock time NOT THE TIME ON YOUR WATCH- many people have been left because of ships time--the ship will pick you up in a week whenit returns..... so make sure your watch is set to "ships time"
-
here is another reason to be carefullout there!! a tragic death. a 31 year veteran 15 shifts short of his retirement and he makes a mistake that costs him his life, this is a dangerous business that we are in dont ever forget it. when a 32 yr vet can do something that gets him turned around so that he getsa trapped under a matress, think what a smartass firefighter one can do in any given department in westchester. do not let this happen to you. I know it cant happen to you im sure thats a comfort but believe me its not true not by a long shot.. the number of firefighter deaths are rising again 38 as of this afternoon way way too many.
-
the citizens always have the last say thats why we have elections. that is what our country is all about.
-
hoss hate to tell you but those days are gone-- just like rubber coats and open cabs.
-
lets see who has that last say on this one too!!! fire commissioners are the elected body of the citizens. sounds like a interesting stand off here, the people or the f.d. stay tuned
