Good question Andy--I think skills is the way to go--keeping good record of what a firefighter has done and what they should be doing next. Like Santa make a list of things that shoud be accompolished and see whos doing it. make your list and check it twice. record keeping is now the acronym for CYA --your only as good as your record keeping.

They didnt have to go very far for this fire. I understand it was brought right to the front door of the station. makes for a short run easy on the apparatus and a short hose stretch. aint life grand

if i told you over a million was paid to the towns in greenburgh would you believe me. i might be on the low end go look and see from the town board how much is paid to fire protection districts in the unincorporated town

what theres some ting Seth can identify?? looks like he found that on Central Ave filling station. hey at least he has his cam with him, makes for good pics. I am glad he learned a thing or 2 during the Codes Classes---he must have been paying attention unlike the other guys!!!!!!!

Seth I j ust hope when it does happen, and it will happen , your training kicks into high gear. Ohh one thing we didnt discuess in Probis class--- old saying"Id rather read about it then write about it" Think about that one for a while. Be patient---the fires will come believe me.

The Town of Greenburgh spends a lot of money---a whle lot of money for fire protection. are they getting their monies worth--not sure but some f.d.'s are gettign a lot of money and doing very little.

hmm Need survival training, fast training. can always use saftey training for the officers also fire officer training.

ALS good advice save F.A.S.T. for later go for the ff2 survival, truck co ops. then look for intro to fire officer, fire officer 1 then maybe fast. good luck

Ther have been numerous aircraft fire and rescue classes taught at the fire training center over the last few months. More are on the way. look for them and sign up

Im back!!! miss me!!! The Town of Greenburgh does in fact pay the villages(all the villages get money) for fire protection, this money is given to the Villaga and Some(up to 37% may go to the fire department budget) the rest is in the village coffers. If you dont believe me look at the towm budget. so in fact the villages get this fire protection money. Housing if you lower the taxes or give incentives to volunteer firefighters someone else has to make up that difference---so in fact you are creating a paid department, even to the extent that you are giving them a pension. There is no system in place that will guarantee manpower day or night. You can look for a system that might give you a better trained firefighter. Why not pay them to go take classes --milages-incentives for completion and so on collage classes towards a degree, all make better firefighters. just my thoughts

train ! train! train! take classes! take classes! take classes ! if and when you have to suggest changes in the department or company do it slowly... page by page make sure every one understands page one before you go to page 2. take things slowly---seek advice but make sure that its advice from people who know. be confident in your decisions but understand the consequences of your decisions. good luck stay safe and remember one thing--the men are your responsibility and you shoud do everything in your power to bring them back home safely

With the current laws in new York State it seems that 24/72 are catching on in different departments.It fits the current syatem of kelly days or comp tours because the hours are still exact or closse enough. i retired too soon.

Hey mabey its a union issue---some stupid ohh sorry chiefs -- come out with a order telling every employee must ware the same clothing or something like that--- Union says if thats what you want us to have them buy them. far fetched?? I dont think so What about chiefs that put out a memo-- socks must be white while on duty?? or you cant ware black socks with uniform pants?? far fetched?? does the department have to buy socks?? union issue for sure. What about sleeping naked in the bunk room ?? do you have to sleep in undies?? lots of things to concider....... I am sure you guys have more opions.

The article was well written--"Doc" has a lot of great ideas and New Rochelle is putting them to work- useing federal money is the first step-getting the developers on your side is a second step. But getting the manpower and getting them on line and trained is the biggest step. Again great article all departments should be developing high rise tatics-- even small departments get called into thise cities. How many times does Greenburgh go into White Plains (Greenburgh has a 6 story height limit) or Pelham or Eastchester into New Rochelle We all have to work togeather.

One more thing if every member of EMT Bravo sent a small check they to would add up.

The family of John Gurga still needs a little help. Johns son John has been a patient in the burn Center since the end of March. YES thats over 6 months. young John is progressing very slowly but he is improving. big John has taken a leave of absence from his job to be with his son. Let's show him what the Firefighters are made of in this area. as you might know I am the director of BurnCare Everywhere Foundation Inc. we have been working with the family and helping and much as we can. young John has a long way to go and whole lot of fight in him. When ever I see him, i can see the fight in his eyes. So lets go firefighter out there -- any checks written to BurnCare with John's name on it will go directly to the family. If every fire company in Westchester wrote a $100.00 check I am sure it would go a long way to cover expensens that are occuring. Welit does depend on a few things--but basicly figure salary plus at least 1/2 again for benifits. times the number of employees..sounds simple huh. Lieuts get 15% above firefirefighters Capts get 15% above Lt's You get the picture I am sure you can do it in stages.

I cant believe that only one department on th eisland is having trouble with the budget!!! ther should be a revolt there. I believe in giving them the comforts of home, making life easier in the station, but lets remember why they are there in the first place. To protcet the citizens. racing a car and doing the things i saw in the video arent about fire protection, or training. If thinga are that good and ther is that much money--put some career staffing on. offf they wont because then they have to go train them according to the state of New York. Do many of you realize that Long Island dosent have a State Firefighter one or 2. They have their own reaining and their own certification. shows you what they think of the rest of the State. maybe its the water out there. just my thoughts
