  1. there no defending that no way shape or form!!! no way no how
  2. would a local F.D. reimburse the County or the State for a Fire Instructor to work with in that Department to get them up to date withi firefighter 1?
  3. Some people have posted in here that the demands on the volunteer fire service are overwhelming. Is that a true statement,if so what do you think should be done about it, or should the State demand more.
  4. Dam i hate to follow ALS but he is right as usual--get the survivial as soon as possible. Being as young as you are I would look for skills/hands on challanging courses. Then opt for Fire Officer classes. dont be afraid to travel to the State Fire academy for classes. Its a great place to meet other firefighters from around the State and there some interesting courses taught by very compident instructors. Also look for one day seminars like the one just given in Elmsford.
  5. save that video --- can you just imiagine what would happen to santa if that truck had to stop short.
  6. hudson you must have more to say about this other then i cant spell- The state set the standard on which we teach ff1 --it has to be adapable to all parts of New York. In some places its the only training that firefighters get. so lets concider ourselves lucky here, that the County offers a lot more-- like all good things sometimes you have to wait.
  7. OK OK here i come FF1 is not enough-- If you were at the Elmsford Seminar sat you would have herd Chief Goldfeder say WE HAVE GOT TO GET OFF THIS VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT s*** YOU ARE A FIRE DEPARTMENT AND SHOULD DO WHAT FIRE DEPARTMENT DO Elect the best not just "its your turn" Train like your life depended on it cause know what it does!! not to repete my self but firefighter one is not enough and the truth is that the Volunteer Service in New York State demanded that it be watered down.
  8. Absoult great seminar!!! All the firefighters there should have taken home the messages and there were a lot of them sprinkled in amoungst his stories. 1- Be safe- you have been issued gear use it--chiefs included 2- Driving apparatus/ or pov dive responsibley--cause guess what you are. 3-A healthy firefighter is a safer firefighter-live long enough to be told your too old to go to fires. 4-Chiefs You are the ones that must above all get the message out. 5-Traing is important--ohh one more time TRAINING IS IMPORTANT 6-This is the best dam job in the world. I wonder one thing and I will ask Chief Goldfeder when I see him Would he have left the wedding if the pager went off for a working fire??? BurnCare wishes to Thanks the Elsmford Fire Department for their support over the years. Your donation to BurnCare goes a long way in helping burn susvivors and their families Walter Ferguson Director BurnCare
  9. come on x635 a week in Montour Falls will do you good. find a week your working days put in for a course and let the Department pay and give you the time off!!
  10. hmm was it a nice 2 1/2 lb one or something a little bigger. the perp is still around so i guess he didnt hit him hard enough. the guy was drunk right!! maybe he was trying to get into the wrong house?? just a mistake!!!!
  11. Now that the snow and ice are upon us--- no wait--it hasent snowed yet--but it will. Do you or your department do anything different as far as responding and fighting fires in the cold and snow? do you as individual firefighter do anything different??
  12. maybe just maybe in defense-- if they knew they were second due--or preplan stated that they were the FAST ot RIT Then maybe they can "selfdispatch" with the knowledge that someone was notifing sombody. But to just go -not tell any one shows a complete lack of discipline and control.
  13. Please stop in and say hello to BurnCare Everywhere Foundation Inc. We will have a table . See what we are all about-- get some information about us. See what we do to help burn survivors and their families. Help support us any way you can. thanks Walter Ferguson Director BurnCare
  14. let me see somewhere i read "building sides are letters-- floors are numbered" seems to make sense to me.
  15. its in the works gentlemen-- you ask the county tries to comply. als and I just did a ff2 end of Dec.
  16. I think a little education is going to emt bravos head!!!! codes is boring enough. were you dreaming in there?? just kidding good topic good answers. I can see we are all thinking in 2007 thats good.
  17. Couldnt have said it better my self Remember 585. Establishing command first then giving proper size up is the way to go. It takes 1/2 a second, it also gives local dispatch or 60 control the command structure. maybe we should train our dispatchers to be more aggressive and ask more questions on the radio--who is in command? when a chief arrives they might ask- have you relieved eng111 officer of command? We have to parctice on the small alarms so that it becomes automatic on the bigger alarms.
  18. When i was a kid I rememebr my Grandfather telling me that they used to sleigh ride down what is now 448 from pocantico hills all the way and down beekman ave to the hudson river. So the winters might have been colder or they just didnt pick up the snow!!! Way back in 1977 westchester county was next in line with state mutual aid for the Buffalo area because of so much snow and ice. Just a few years back we all went Upstate because of ice storms. so warming might be coming but its taking its sweet time getting here. Enjoy the warm weather while its here-- the jet stream is up in canada but will be dropping soon. whenit does we willhave the snow everyone is looking for, and allthe problems that go along with it.
  19. I am glad the brother got out. makes me wonder just a little did he fall through a hole in the floor or did the floor give out. Were there any warning signs of a weak floor?? Sounds like a lot went wrong in a short period of time. It just drives the point into us be safe be carefull be alert. This is a dangerous profession we have chosen to participate in, lets not make it harded on ourselves. god speed his recovery
  20. As P.T. Barmun said " thers a a## for every seat" so as long as there are people willing to listen to scanners, there will be scanners. I remember many yrs ago way too many- there were scanners that only had a channel or two. I remember my aunt listening to NT fire and NT police. she was the only one that had a scanner and she called us to tell us where the alarm was. god I miss those simple days.
  21. What we need is some sort of a screen/cage type of harness in the apparatus. you can pulll it across you and lock it place, with some sort of slide lock. when you get to the location you hit a button and it releases back to the origional position.
  22. 103

Like the song says "when will we ever learn" 103 is not somthing to be proud of when 25 % come from appratus responding/returning. so slow down save lives --it just might be some one you know.
  23. Congratulations to all involved--Seth your site has gained importance every year. It is a place were we can openly talk about fire issues and not get on each others nerves--somtimes--keep up the great work. I am looking foward to new and exciting things this year
  24. No he never sought the Office and yet when he was called upon he reacted like any other american citizen. He steped up to the plate and did the best he cold. It was trying times in America beck then. Civil unrest, unpopular war, a president under investigation, Yet through alof this Ford became a peace maker, held the Country togeather and did it his way. Rest in Peace Some of our elected officials should take notice of how he got things done
  25. Please not only slow the apparatus down but your own personal cars as well. Blue lights do not give you the right to follow the fire apparatus down a one way street the wrong way, it dosent give you the right to go through a intersection against the traffic lights. Deaths form responding/returning are about 25 % that guys is 25 lives saved. sounds so simple
