She is a complicated woman but she does back the firefighters and the fire service, in that there is no doubt. I believe she has done a good job for New Yorkers. when you decide on who you vote for, you have to pick a stance that your canidate is for, what ever makes you want to vote for them. they all have faults--you have to decide for your self . the IAFF or NVFC only looks at one area. Rudy is a three time divorced man cheated on both of his previous wives, actually flaunted hhis current wife in front of his pervious wife and children, Newt cheated on his wife while he was bringing up Bill for impeachment for doing the same thing. every one knocks Hillary but like the song- she stood by her man -through all the termoil. voting is a precious thing lots of people have went to war and served so we have that right. bash all you want just make sure you get out and vote.

this is a great class-- every firefighter in New York should take this class. It drives home the point-- get there--get there safely--do your job--do it safely--get home to your love ones. Thats the purpose.

there are usually some apparatus up at 5th ave and Central park. both sides of the street . Its also a nice place to hang out and watch the parade from. west side of the street is usually sunny.

FDNY has announced that it will increase reaining to apx 23 weeks. New training is for building construction/safety issues amouong other things. And you were complaining that FF! was too long.

FDNY has announced that it is looking into GPS for all it's turnout gear. It purpose is to keep track of personnel at fires. What do you think??will it work and why didnt I think of it!!!

As a State Fire Instructor ALL Fire Chiefs, Line Officers, Safety Officers, Firefighters, should look at this link very very closely. It is extreamly important that EVERYONE in the Fire Service understand what can happen, when things go wrong. Accidents can and will continue to happen we cant control everything, BUT we can be proactive. Educate your selves, learn the current trends in training, elect the best personel for the job or position. I gotta say this I dont mean to offend any one or any body but guess what!! did we as a fire service learn fome this---NO after this incident happened and while the Chief was being arrested and brought up on criminal charges--WE still used live victims. There had to be legislation introduced in Albany to make it a crime to have live people as victimes in training exercies.

We are on a record setting pace again this year. My heart goes out the family. There is condolances in knowing she was doijng something sh always wanted to do. We and the military are the only pepole that kill our members in training.

Just recievd word from the Office of Fire Prevention and Control. As of 4/01/07 We will be useing Delmar instead of IAFSTA. All State Fire Instructors are being notified, and the County has to notify all County Fire Instructors. This change has long been anticiaped by some, and dreded by others. What do you guys have to say about it??

I would have done the same thing---- good for them. if the department was dumb enough to have something like that in writing. they deserve the grivience. when i was union president I had a firefighter put in a grivience because he didnt like the smoke detectors in the building. he wanted photo electric because it didind harm the atmosphere

Bigfitz 2004 great response- read the book"To Sleep with the Angels" by David Cowan Book details the Our Lady of Angels fire great reading for firefighters. Not admitting my age but I do rememebr that fire well, believe it was that fire that set me into thinking about the fire service. I was 11 yrs old and remember vividly the news coverage of the childerns bodies and the stories of how they died at their desks. and the remarkable efforts of the Fire fighters and the Department trying to make the rescues. Still gives me thoughts today. So haveing fire drills in winter is an ok thing with me rather be safe then sorry.

Good idea Calhobs relocating the Ambulance to Fire Headquarters. maybe a second amb can be located in the new development. Another good Idea 87 getting a quint of some sorts. Take a look around and find a deartment that has a useful one and copy it. will there be a rear exit to the Manor's from the development?? maybe through Kingsland point?? just another thought.

Great response ATIFD I have been involved with some of Batt 14 multi department drill and fiind them refreshing to see different Chiefs taking over and actually learning the ICS system and useing it. More Batt should do that, yoiu get to learn about the different departments and how they function, more important you get to see different chiefs.

just wondering why not a new fire company altogeather? seems like a long way for members to resppond to get the apparatus and the ambulance.

I dont believe the County can establish miniums for Departments the respond on mutual aid. I believe the County is only the vehicle in which a department recieves or gives mutual aid. Having said that ther is nothing wrong with the Department requestion mutual aid to fully expect and ASK what the qualifications of the respopnders are. As a Incident Commander of a operation you might be sending your mutual aid companies into the fire as back up or a search team, or as a RIT/FAST you as the IC are RESPONSIBLE for them and knowing who they are and what training they have is up to you. Maybe the better way is for the Battalions in the County to make suggestions to the Departments and for the Battalions to train togeather more.

No they are not both wrong--one broke the law one was upholding the law. Doing 85 is bad enough but 85 with your wife and kids is just out right crazy. OHHh wait he had his Flashers on that makes it ok?? Where was this guys mind?? question would you let your wife and kids in a car knowing that the driver was going to drive 85 mph?? I dont think so.

That Trooper just lowered the line of duty deaths for the year--because that guy would have added to the number of firefighters deaths, maybe not that time but for sure some where along the way. We have said it before and will say it again SLOW DOWN the life you save just might be yours.

We are getting interesting responses from the fire service in general about the training issue, so heres another question that you might want to dig into. Should the State or County work with individual Fire Departments to bring them up to date(only if department wants there is home rule here in NY) and if so how and what about additional expenses.

I was in Long Island for christmas Eve when I herd the siren's and the air horns,of course I look to see what was happening. what did I d see A fire truck with at least 500 lights covering it. Front to back , over the pump panel, over the hose bed. With 8 men riding on the hose bed, tossing candy-- Santa all dressed up on the rear step. My sister in law said "ohh how cute" I said " what if the truck hits a car or worse yet a person" her reply" your turning into a scrooge" believe me the truck wasent speeding but it wasent going very slow either. Who is right?? its ok Im abig boy I can take it??
