We all wish him well and a speedy recovery I understand that he is doing well but will not be able to return to firefighting duties. Here is just another example of "WHY" why are we risking our lives for a bowling alley?? It dosent make sense stop the insanity!!! stop sending men in for no apparent reasonor at least make it safe as possible and no way ina building that has been burning and has a truss roof--- Chief thats a deffiniation of insanity for sure.

The Fire Service and the Military are the only sectors that killl their people during training. somthing has to be done NFPA 1403 it a great start---- if its followed correctly. For all you new Chiefs READ IT and be aware of the concequences when something goes wrong.

lets start by asking who amoung you is willing to give up your chiefs car to a merged department?? just making a point or who is willing to give up their new ladder/engine/rescue or what ever to a merged department. not as easy as it looks didnt say it was impossible but not an easy task lets hope this committee is diligent in their findings and honset with the citizens of the State

Thats what i like about you ALS---dont sugar coat anything. You are 100% correct arrive alive to help the citizen you are sworn to protect.

Interesting article--- We in this business must at all time find ways to save our selves. Useing a seat belt is the easiest way to prevent a firefighters death while they are in an apparatus. It time to make it a law in NY All firefighters riding in any deaprtment vehicle must be seated and belted its that simple. Ther is no other argument. You cannot help any one if you dont get there. ohh wait add to the law any firefighter responding in their POV must be belted in. If not no PSOB or other insurance coverage.

I have said it before and I will say it again.. so listen up--when you take your local taxpayers money either by taxes or by donations yes donations... you better be spending it on usefullthings. If you take donations you might need a 501-c3 tax form. as you can see not knowing is not an excuse keep goor records and CYA.

Besides the food was great all the deserts home made. How do I thank all of you.? I can do it by keep doing the work we have been doing .That is helping family and burn survivors. working with the Kids Camp and continueing the education of people on the devestaion of burns and the effects it has on lives. Spike you may be 100 % correct-- there are time when we lose our sight and not look at the complete picture of things. We cannot be short sighted and have tunnel vision. We have to look at the whole piture of larchmont and what the elected Officials see not just what the fire department is looking at.

I believe that the current probie class is useing IFSTA We as State Instructors were informed that as of 4/13/07 IFSTA will no longer be used, any State course must switch over to Delmar. All State Instructors have the updated material and some books. The flow of the new material is so much better. IFSTA was out dated -Delmar is all new with current information, we will all be with the new pregram, County instructors will be making the switch as soon as possible, but if you have the new Delmar books use them. just make the adjustments in the reading.

Wow I have waited a while before weighing in on this one but here I go, lots of comments both ways. you can make issue of career vs vol all day long. Balance of power, election of Chiefs hireing of personnel all good sound arguments. Pick a position argue all day long. Maybe the position of the Larchmont Village officials is whats best for the citizens of Larchmont. Thats what they are elected to do. Will the establishment of a career chief bring uniformity to the department? ie establish a chain of command simaular to the police?? will it establish "one" person responsible for the entire department? including training standards ect? The question is and remains not vol-vs career but whats best for the citizens of Larchmont. If you are a Larchmont volunteer having a career chief will not change or should not change your desire to be a volunteer. Remember what you volunteered for to "protect the citizens" life and property. Not to party and parade. Lets not lose the vision 'PROTECT AND SERVE'

Just checked with a FAA official(my sister-in-law) says statements are true. although a lot of detail., translation(bullsh__) there are requirments. these only pertain to Fire apparatus on site at airports and not to responding mutual aid apparatus

There is no reason that any of us should be pulling a meter. hit the breaker(the main shut off) leave the rest to con ed

wouldnt you rather be reading about the guy from Brewster that helped save lives at the building collaspe. ohh and dont think that this incident cant happen here in westchester. Watch out where your funds go and whos spending taxpayers dollars
-
That guy did what every firefighter in country should be trained to do. Act quickly get the citizens to safety. is he doing his job---yes should he be rewarded with interviews in the paper--by all means. Id rather read 100 stories about a firefighter doing the right thing then---then one story about how a firefighter fuked up thats for sure. It is always good to see positive stories about the fire servce. congratulations---- he had enough training to know what to do. thats more then i can say for some people in some departments.
