  1. First of all if you dont buckle up in your pov shame on you theres no excuse--ohh wait---there is YOU CANT FIX STUPID!!! Officers responsibility in the apparatus---drivers should not pull out of the fire station with out asking is every one seated and is every one buckled. remember 25% of firfighters deaths are attributted to apparatus accidents responding/returning from calls this includes personal pov. If you department has a buckle up policy and you drive you pov hmmm you are part of the department and are accountible for you actions. maybe with holding the insurance money from a "line of duty death" or maybe we should nt call it a line of duty death. but who do we ppunnish--the fammily and thats not right. so lets not be stupid. buckle up in your pov as well as ths fire apparatus
  2. Don't mean to rain on he subject, BUT WHY do we need the signs in the first place-- all you have to do is buckle up every time you get in the apparatus!!!! Just like you do when you get in your pov. It's that simple.
  3. United States troops no matter where they are deployed deserve the support of all of all of us. It seems its the political end that has us in a delemia, if we say bring them home- they say we are losing the war on terriorism, if we say send more over there we are acused of sending troops to a no win situation. It wasn't so long ago that we were in the same situtation 1966-1968 100,000's of of soliders went to war under almost the same conditions-- we are still seeing the effects on the service men and women. Here's my question the the politicians: If we can send people into space-- go to google earth and find my house- spend millions of dollars no, make that billions of dollars on what ever!!! why the hell can't we find the one person responsible for the attack on our country. Don't mean to rant and rave, but some where we made a right turn in Afganstan and ended up in Iraq
  4. not taking side onthisissue but usually political endorsements come from faternal organizations not the departments but i could be wrong.
  5. Hospitals are increasingly becomng "for profit" corporations and like any other for profit--it's the bottom line that counts the most.
  6. Just to add to Toms statement I can't tell you not to give to the BurnCenter but I can tell you it might not do what you want it to do!! all my programs are dedacated to improving the quality of life for patients and families of burn survivors. The Longo BurnCenter located in westchester Medical Center is attached to a level one trauma center and takes in burn survivors from 7 surounding counties besides being the only center from here to Canada. BurnCare works directly with the staff at the Center, althought we cant help every burn survivor we are always there for support for the family. Firefighters if there comes a time that you get burned at a fire-your department may have to transport you to a local hospital-due to the nearness of it. Be aware that YOU can insist that you be seen at the BurnCenter.
  7. Future fireman You are correct that the number of Burn Centers are closing down New York is no exception, the Longo Burn Center located in westchester Medical Center is the only Center between NYC and Canada. The Center is only a 10 bed center and if there was a disaster I am not sure how the County would handle it--right now i am not sure wether there is a plan in place for any overflow or if there is a disater plan for burns. I am sure that BurnCare...Foundation Inc. is doing it's best to help burn victims and their families-- education young children and older adults in the devastation that burns can cause. Walter Ferguson Director BurnCare Foundation Inc
  8. AUG 30th 1200 noon ---tee off time at the BurnCare Golf Outing Somers Point New york Wanna play or sponsor a hole let your conmpany be part of this event.
  9. hmm lees see the family pays taxes--to the town -who in turn should be the ones responsible for the fire department. sirens a moot issue any judge in his right mind will probely order the sirens off from 9 pm to 6 am at least. As for the maturity of the firefighters---well we can all see the black eye that department has now--wonder jhow it willeffect their fund raising. Remember when you ware your department shirt-uniform-someone is watching - behave. personally i would love to see his training-did he get credit for the drill with no turnout gear? mabey he was in charge. which brings me the the issue of leadership--or lack there of. where was the fire chief- Captain- leiutenant.
  10. hey now thats not a bad thing---wife at work--you home on a heating pad-- your quickly turning into my hero
  11. You gotta get out of the house!!! call me
  12. Orange county ran a sucessful firefighter 1 and 2 last year. but the question remains why no intrest inWestchester??
  13. IF A FIRE STATION IS BUILT WITH PUBLIC MONEY---IT IS PUBLIC PROPERTY---NO SOCIAL CLUB OR BAR SHOULD BE ALLOWED ON THE PROPERTY-
  14. Let us never forget those who made the sacrfice in the fire service. Their families deserve to be taken care of and the children educated, because believe me they will never forget. the silver Shield Foundation is a wonderful organization and should be supported by bothe the public and the firefighting community BurnCare...Foundation Inc. wishes Silver Shield the very best.
  15. I fully understand the need for dicipline inthe fire service but there has to be some common sense used. In the ten year's that he has worked has he gotten shirts every year? does he have to turn ion the old ones to get new ones?? Hey I still have a box of old shirts form the job and I am retired over 5 years--think they want them back?? yes they still fit!!
  16. it is to be used in place of a social security number. all firefighters will be getting this card . I do hope it works.
  17. Let me see!!!fire house public property!!! bar !! firefighting!!! not mixing well is it. If one of your firefighters leaves the station anad hits some one with their vehicle. there wont be enough money in any treasurery to pay the legal bills. Chief's be fair warned you are in charge of ALL operations of the Department and MAY be held responsible for ANY action of your department members. and haveing a "Social club" dosent cut it--- ohh by the way take in members under 21 and have one of them get a little beer in them. aiding to the delincquency of a minor. so you know where my thoughts on this subject are--- dont have a bar-"social club" serve soda in your machines andn have water and soda at the parades. Remember wether you have on your uniform or your department tee shirt you are representing the Department/ the villager/ fire district and mey be held accountable for you actions.
  18. Homer speachless!!!!! hard to believe booster lines are like old fire chief's past their time. enough said
  19. No they are not a part of the mutual aid plan
  20. Thats about right--they work all over the campus and respopnd from their job assigements-- some are inthe DES building and drive eng 7 ladder 7 eng 8 is located in maintaince building.
  21. all members of the Grasslands fire brigade are being trained to firefighter 1 level.
  22. Just left the wedding!!!! we were treated to a wonderful cermoney where 2 love birds were joined togeather. Seth and Kristen were beaming with love. cocktails followed and then a great meal---dancing and a lot of kisses between the newly weds. What a send off for them. may they enjoy a long, happy, healthy ,married life togeather.
  23. hold on here --any department that has a pole and allows any person/child or what ever slide down it is only asking for trouble. I would check with a attorny on that one.
  24. Heres a great book for all firefighters to read "TO SLEEP WITH THE ANGELS" David Cowan and John Kuenster. Story about the 1958 fire in a Catholic elementary school in West Chicago where 92 children lost their lives
  25. Firefighter 1 should be run in a tight fasion-firefighters should learn the right way the first time and if that takes dicipline then so be it. Fire Chiefs should be notified as soon as possible about problems with thier firefighters. Maybe it will take a little dicipline to get firefighters home safe. As ALS has stated in many of his classes THIS IS A PROFESSION--IF ITS NOT FOR YOU JOIN THE ELKS Chief should not sent their firefighters to FF1 with out preparing them for it. Medicials and mask fit are only the start.
