  1. That was funny true so very true but funny.
  2. My father once told me somthing about the fire service that I have never forgotten--" you can always tell them why the apparatus is there but believe me you will have a much harder time telling them why they arent" so I think they were good words to live by back then-- and good words to live by now.
  3. Both stations are nearing completaion and should be ready in a matter of weeks. Still not sure if i like the idea of two but so be it . Hope both companies enjoy their new stations. looking foward to the formal showing.
  4. again you were right arond the cornor from me i would have brought you lunch.the station might be ready sometime in april
  5. and he I am thinking Greenville was a Fire District in the Town of Greenbugh. where was I for 30 years??
  6. Jim if there is anything I can do do not hesitate to call me. If you need something form the Foundation let me know. Walter
  7. It seems clear to me that the fire sservice in general is and should be held to that highter standard when we put on that uniform, we are repersenting the fire service as a whole. Be the smart firefighter. I have spent 40 years in the fire service please represent me where ever you go with respect and honor, all the brothers and sisters that have gone before you deserve the respect of the uniform. just my thoughts
  8. We should be moving in this direction but we arent or at least not moving very fast. The new fire fighter one courses combined with safety and survival will give the firefighter a bear minium for expopsure into the world of firefighting. Every fire Department should have a requirement FF1 and survival as the standard and then increase it for other officers. Some Departments are way ahead of the curve and thats a good thing, some are so slow at getting the message that they are stuck in the past. lets all move in the right direction togeather and togeather we can make the future safer for our firefighters anad ouor citizens.
  9. As I like to quote from Red Neck Comedy "YOU CANT FIX STUPID" and this young man certinaly fits that description.
  10. I'm not even going there on this subject--you guys have fun with it-wait i would go there but i cant remember!!! I am just glad the fire service has come a long way. ohh and greatfull for remote control too. ok ok you started it, when i first joined november 1966 ,we had 2 scott air pacs on the ladder truck and six Filter masks. good god what the hell did we breathe in??
  11. This is again sosmthing that we should al be aware of-- being held to a higher standard. After being accused of stealing the gas from the fire department, this individual engaged in other activities NOT CONCERNING the fire department BUT because he is/was/suspended the article clearly has in its headlines FIREFIGHTER faces third arrest. This is another example of being carefull out there we are all HELD to that higher standard in the publics eye.
  12. bill if you can figure out how to use the green cards the coffee is on me brother. they are one pain in the keester
  13. On Long Island they are called "Housemen" and respond when a call comes in, DC Pells is correct in New York your a Volunteer or a Career and both have specific laws concerning them. I am not sure where "bunkers " come into play or how they are covered. But hireing someone then asking them to go to alarms just isnt right.
  14. ALS what the hell are you talking about?? you are one smart man no wonder we all love you so much when you teach
  15. See ALS some one IS paying attention.
  16. Each Chief can request what apparatus they want for mutual aid. They can do this on a yearly basis. YFD has stated that they will respond to go to work- but requested not to be called to sit in a station. YFD can handle a third alarm easily with out calling in any mutual aid from the County. New Rochelle and White Plains can easily handle a second , Mount Vernon might be stretched a little to handle a second with out the third Truck. Manpower is another issue -my feeling- and its my own i-s that when a department is useing mutual aid- it should have a system in place to get their manpower back (recall) as soon as possible. Mutual aid is not a subsitute for manpower-- it is to be used for the big one not the everyday bread and butter fire.
  17. Congratulations on a fine site-- we all enjoy coming on here and expressing our opinion's and seeing what is happening in the fire world we live in today. keepup the great work Firecapt32
  18. This has long been debated before-- it is a way around civil service-- the IAFF is against it the IAFC is against it The NYSPFFA is against it. One ,and I will only site one of many , problems is what happens if the "firefighter" gets hurt? Benifiis if you are a career firefighter far out way the benifits of being a "on call" or "part timer" . I can list more: Training Haz-mat advancement retirement medical coverage life insurance The list can go on
  19. NFPA has standards for safety Officer. apparently there is not a need for Saftey Officers ther have been several cancellations of state safety Officers courses the last few months
  20. The Instructor would be me. so make sure you have what all Fire Officers should have--pen--paper--good attatude-sense of humor- desire to learn a few things. I will provide the rest- Class starts promptly at 1900 houors dont be late. and French Vanilla coffee 2 sweet and lows is always in order:)
  21. I believe there is court cases in New York that state you are on duty "going to "and "returning from" work as long as you are doing so in a "reasonable fasion, and time" ie if you work in White Plains F.D. and live in Elmsford but get in a accident in Chappaqua you might not be covered. If you were in a accident on rt 119 and had just left work you would be covered.
  22. I feel a sad heart this Holiday with the passing of Ray - he was a great instructor as well as being a wonderful person. He will be missed by all in the EMS family as well as the fire family.

  25. come on als -we love a good argument it seems lilke Sleepy Hollow has messed up once again and now need the feds to clear things up. I am sure there are lots of great police officers in Sleepy Hollow but it seems that some one has some pull some place to get the feds in to look around.
